On the Farmers' Willingness of the Remediation of Rural Settlements at Different Levels of Economic Development:Based on Surveys of Rural Households in Shandong and Fujian Provinces

Abstract:The purpose of the paper is to analyze the farmers′ willingness of the remediation of rural settlements at different levels of economic development.The study explores the implementation mechanisms for the remediation of rural settlements,and then provides some theoretical references for protecting the smooth development of the remediation of rural settlements.The results indicate that the farmers in two-sample areas both have a high willingness of the remediation,have generally a high expectations for improving the living environment of the replacement houses,and tend to choose the same way of compensation and the one-time monetary compensation.The farmers at different levels of economic development have the different demands in the remediation methods and resettlement methods:on the land handle side,in the developed regions,the farmers are more willing to charge all of their land,and most farmers are willing to become townspeople,however,in the under-developed regions,the farmers are more willing to accept the remediation of rural settlement,and less willing to become townspeople.On the resettlement side,although they are both more willing to choose the focused transformation and the construction of the new village center.However,in the developed regions,some farmers tend to chose to enter the city to obtain compensation,which is not experienced in the under-developed regions.This difference is mainly related to economic development.Finally,a corresponding policy proposal is given.
