Abstract:Let F be a finite field of q elements. In this paper we obtain several estimates on character sums derived from the Riemann hypothesis for curves over F. In particular, we establish an estimate on twisted generalized Kloosterman sums as conjectured by P. Deligne (1977, “Cohomologieétale (SGA 4½),” Lecture Notes in Mathemmatics, Vol. 569, Springer-Verlag, Berlin/Heidelberg/New York) for the case n = 2: |Σx ∈ N2 χ(x) ψ(x)| ≤ 2q1/2 for all nontrivial characters (χ, ψ) of N2 × F2. Here F2 is a quadratic extension of F and N2 consists of norm 1 (to F) elements in F2. We also present new constructions of Ramanujan graphs based on abelian groups. The character sum estimates are used to prove that these are indeed Ramanujan graphs.

Abstract:In this paper, we show how to deduce several moment integrals by the method of q-difference equation. In addition, we obtain several generalizations of transformational identities by the technique of moment integrals. Meanwhile, we obtain some special cases of bilateral-unilateral series and the Rogers-Ramanujan identities as by-products. Moreover, we give two mixed generating functions for generalized Rogers-Szego polynomials by moment integrals and derive two transformational identities by symmetry. At last, a trilinear generating function for generalized Rogers-Szego polynomials is given by moment integrals.

Abstract:In this paper, we defined a new generalized Cochrane sum with Dirichlet characters, and gave the upper bound of the generalized Cochrane sum with Dirichlet characters. Moreover, we studied the asymptotic estimation problem of the mean value of the generalized Cochrane sum with Dirichlet characters and obtained a sharp asymptotic formula for it. By using this asymptotic formula, we also gave the mean value of the generalized Dedekind sum.

Abstract:In 2001, Kanemitsu, Tanigawa, and Yoshimoto studied the following generalized Lambert series, $$ \sum_{n=1}^{\infty} \frac{n^{N-2h} }{\exp(n^N x)-1}, $$ for $N \in \mathbb{N}$ and $h\in \mathbb{Z}$ with some restriction on $h$. Recently, Dixit and the last author pointed out that this series has already been present in the Lost Notebook of Ramanujan with a more general form. Although, Ramanujan did not provide any transformation identity for it. In the same paper, Dixit and the last author found an elegant generalization of Ramanujan's celebrated identity for $\zeta(2m+1)$ while extending the results of Kanemitsu et al. In a subsequent work, Kanemitsu et al. explored another extended version of the aforementioned series, namely, $$\sum_{r=1}^{q}\sum_{n=1}^{\infty} \frac{\chi(r)n^{N-2h}{\exp\left(-\frac{r}{q}n^N x\right)}}{1-\exp({-n^N x})},$$ where $\chi$ denotes a Dirichlet character modulo $q$, $N\in 2\mathbb{N}$ and with some restriction on the variable $h$. In the current paper, we investigate the above series for {\it any} $N \in \mathbb{N}$ and $h \in \mathbb{Z}$. We obtain a Dirichlet character analogue of Dixit and the last author's identity and there by derive a two variable generalization of Ramanujan's identity for $\zeta(2m+1)$. Moreover, we establish a new identity for $L(1/3, \chi)$ analogous to Ramanujan's famous identity for $\zeta(1/2)$.

Abstract:We estimate mixed character sums of polynomial values over elements of a finite field Fqr with sparse representations in a fixed ordered basis over the subfield Fq . First we use a combination of the inclusion–exclusion principle with bounds on character sums over linear subspaces to get nontrivial bounds for large q . Then we focus on the particular case q=2 , which is more intricate. The bounds depend on certain natural restrictions. We also provide families of examples for which the conditions of our bounds are fulfilled. In particular, we completely classify all monomials as argument of the additive character for which our bound is applicable. Moreover, we also show that it is applicable for a large family of rational functions, which includes all reciprocal monomials.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate permutation polynomials over a finite field $\mathbb F_{q^n}$ with $q=2^m$, focusing on those in the form $\mathrm{Tr}(Ax^{q+1})+L(x)$, where $A\in\mathbb F_{q^n}^*$ and $L$ is a $2$-linear polynomial over $\mathbb F_{q^n}$. By calculating certain character sums, we characterize these permutation polynomials and provide additional constructions.

Abstract: In this paper, we will develop more character varieties for a finite group $G$ by generalizing original character theory of Frobenius to good partition algebras. In the view of this generalization theory, we will reformulate the refined McKay conjecture and part of Navarro' conjecture on degrees of irreducible characters into a new general conjecture in the form of equality of polynomials. We will define the Frobenius polynomial, degree polynomial and prove that the ordinary character table of $G$ is equivalent to the Frobenius polynomial of the center of $FG$. We find a new series of invariants $p_{ijl}$ for a finite group. As an application of this new invariants, we prove that the normal series of a finite pure perfect group is determined by the lengths of its conjugate classes.

Abstract:In this short paper, we generalize Ismail–Zhang's q-2D Hermite polynomials (Trans Am Math Soc 369:6779–6821 (2017), [14]) with an extra parameter and prove that if an analytic function in several variables satisfies a set of partial differential equations of second order, then it can be expanded in terms of the product of the generalized q-2D Hermite polynomials. In addition, we give some generating functions as applications.
The distribution of large quadratic character sums and applications

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the distribution of the maximum of character sums over the family of primitive quadratic characters attached to fundamental discriminants $|d|\leq x$. In particular, our work improves results of Montgomery and Vaughan, and gives strong evidence that the Omega result of Bateman and Chowla for quadratic character sums is optimal. We also obtain similar results for real characters with prime discriminants up to $x$, and deduce the interesting consequence that almost all primes with large Legendre symbol sums are congruent to $3$ modulo $4$. Our results are motivated by a recent work of Bober, Goldmakher, Granville and Koukoulopoulos, who proved similar results for the family of non-principal characters modulo a large prime. However, their method does not seem to generalize to other families of Dirichlet characters. Instead, we use a different and more streamlined approach, which relies mainly on the quadratic large sieve. As an application, we consider a question of Montgomery concerning the positivity of sums of Legendre symbols.

Abstract:In this article, we compute binomial convolution sums of divisor functions associated with the Dirichlet character modulo 8, which is the remaining primitive Dirichlet character modulo powers of 2 yet to be considered. To do this, we provide an explicit expression of a general modular form of even weight for Γ 0 ( 32 ) {\Gamma }_{0}\left(32) in terms of its basis, and use an identity of Huard, Ou, Spearman, and Williams. As an application, we also compute the number of representations by quadratic forms under parity conditions.

Abstract:For any real $k\geq 2$ and large prime $q$, we prove a lower bound on the $2k$-th moment of the Dirichlet character sum \begin{equation*} \frac{1}{\phi(q)} \sum_{\substack{\chi \text{ mod }q\\ \chi\neq \chi_0}} \Big| \sum_{n\leq x} \chi(n)\Big|^{2k}, \end{equation*} where $1\leq x\leq q$, and $\chi$ is summed over the set of non-trivial Dirichlet characters mod $q$. Our bound is known to be optimal up to a constant factor under the Generalised Riemann Hypothesis. We also get a sharp lower bound on moments of theta functions using the same method.

The distribution of the maximum of cubic character sums

Abstract:For a primitive Dirichlet character $\chi\pmod q$ we let \[M(\chi):= \frac{1}{\sqrt{q}}\max_{1\leq t \leq q} \Big|\sum_{n \leq t} \chi(n) \Big|.\] In this paper, we investigate the distribution of $M(\chi)$, as $\chi$ ranges over primitive cubic characters $\chi\pmod q$ with $(q,3)=1$ and $q\leq Q$. Our first result gives an estimate for the proportion of such characters for which $M(\chi)>V$, in a uniform range of $V$, which is best possible under the assumption of the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis. In particular, we show that the distribution of large cubic character sums behaves very differently from those in the family of non-principal characters modulo a large prime, and the family of quadratic characters. We also investigate the location of the number $N_{\chi}$ where the maximum of $|\sum_{n\leq N} \chi(n)|$ is attained, and show the surprising result that for almost all primitive cubic characters $\chi\pmod q$ with $M(\chi)>V$, $N_{\chi}/q$ is very close to a reduced fraction with a large denominator of size $(\log V)^{1/2+o(1)}$. This contradicts the common belief that for an even character $\chi$, $N_{\chi}/q$ is located near a rational of small denominator and gives a striking difference with the case of even characters in the other two families mentioned above, for which $N_{\chi}/q\approx 1/3$ or $2/3$ for almost all even $\chi$. Furthermore, in the case of cubic characters, the works of Granville-Soundararajan, Goldmakher, and Lamzouri-Mangerel show that if $M(\chi)$ is large, then $\chi$ pretends to be $\xi(n)n^{it}$ for some small $t$, where $\xi$ is an odd character of small conductor $m$. We show that for almost all such characters, we have $M(\chi)=m^{-1/2+o(1)}\big|L(1+it, \chi\overline{\xi})\big|.$

We study the distribution of elements in the set L(p) in character over the short interval. In this paper, we use the analytic method and show the distribution property of$$ \sum\limits_{n\le N\atop n\in L(p)}\chi(n), $$and give a non-trivial estimate.

Abstract:In [4], B. C. Berndt and A. Zaharescu introduced the twisted divisor sums associated with the Dirichlet character while studying the Ramanujan's type identity involving finite trigonometric sums and doubly infinite series of Bessel functions. Later, in a follow-up paper [20], S. Kim extended the definition of the twisted divisor sums to twisted sums of divisor functions. In this paper, we derive identities associated with the aforementioned weighted divisor functions and the modified K-Bessel function in light of recent results obtained by the first author and B. Maji [1]. Moreover, we provide a new expression for L ( 1 , χ ) from which we establish the positivity of L ( 1 , χ ) for any real primitive character χ. In addition, we deduce Cohen-type identities and then exhibit the Voronoï-type summation formulas for them.

Paris358 (2020), 211–215] studied congruences of the form modulo the cyclotomic polynomial , provided that . Apparently, the case has been missing from the literature. Our primary purpose is to fill this gap. In addition, we discuss a certain fascinating link to Dirichlet character sum identities.
