Abstract:Oral cancer is the sixth most common malignancy in the world with poor prognosis;the 5-year survival rate is approximately 50%.Early diagnosis and early treatment are the most important key points for patients with oral cancers to improve their survival rate and quality of life;there is a correlation between early diagnosis and an improved survival rate. However, when the patients become symptomatic, such as pain, bleeding, ulceration,a mass, dysphasia,or odynophagia, the lesions are often infiltrating and metastasizing. It is all clinicians' aim to realize early diagnosis of the patients with oral cancers as well as screening the patients with high-risk,before the patients become symptomatic.Besides the routine clinical physical examinations of oral cavity, which could be performed by dentists, otolaryngologists, and physicians, vital staining, spectral analysis, and brush biopsy are hoped to be useful to screen and detect oral cancers at an early stage.
