Abstract:A metal-free 1,4-allylation of azadienes with allyltrimethylsilanes catalyzed by B(C6F5)(3) has been developed. The high Lewis acidity, good thermal stability, and good hydrolytic stability of the catalyst make this reaction efficient and operationally simple. In contrast to the previously reported 1,2-allylation of alpha,beta-unsaturated imines, the 1,4-allylation of azadienes is described here for the first time. Benzofuran-, indene-, dihydronaphthalene-, chromene-, and benzothiophene-based allyl arylmethanes have been obtained in up to 95 % yield.

Abstract:A new catalytic enantioselective approach for the formation of allyl alpha-amino acid derivatives by reaction of N-tosyl alpha-imino esters with allyl stannanes and silanes catalyzed by chiral copper(I) complexes has been developed. A series of different BINAP and phosphine-oxazoline (P,N) ligands have, in combination with various Lewis acids, been tested as chiral catalysts for allylation of N-tosyl alpha-imino esters. It has been found that both type of ligands, in combination with copper(I) salts, give highly valuable unsaturated alpha-amino acid derivatives. The reaction has been investigated for different allyl stannanes and silanes, and it has been found that tri-n-butyl allyl stannane gives the best results of the simple allyl compounds tested, leading to gamma,delta-unsaturated alpha-amino acid derivatives in up to 94% yield and with up to 83% ee, which can be improved to be >95% ee by recrystallization. The reaction has also been investigated using different acyclic and cyclic allyl stannanes leading to various types of unsaturated alpha-amino acid derivatives in very high yield (up to 95%) and with up to 98% ee. The stereochemistry and absolute configurations of the allyl alpha-amino acid derivatives have been determined by X-ray analysis, and it is suggested that the reaction takes place as an ene-like reaction.

Abstract:An unprecedented Ir-catalyzed asymmetric cascade umpolung allylation/2-aza-Cope rearrangement of trifluoroethylisatin ketimines has been realized. The current method provides a facile access to biologically important α-trifluoromethyl-containing homoallylic amines in high yields with excellent enantioselectivity. Notably, umpolung reactivity of trifluoroethylisatin ketimine was discovered for the first time. Mechanism studies revealed the key intermediates in the initial umpolung allylation and the stereospecific chirality transfer in the subsequent 2-aza-Cope rearrangement.

Abstract:The first example of palladium-catalyzed allylic alkylation of an imino ester with simple allyl esters in the presence of a chiral quaternary ammonium salt is reported. The presence of molecular sieves was found to have a beneficial effect on the enantioselectivity of the reaction by scavenging water from the system. Alkylated products with e.e.s of up to 61% were obtained.

Abstract:A series of C2-symmetric and asymmetric chiral thiourea derivatives were synthesized from commercial l-phenylalanine. All of the new compounds have been fully characterized by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, MS spectra and elemental analyses. The chiral thioureas were used as chiral ligands in the catalytic enantioselective ethylation of aldehydes with diethylzinc, the corresponding sec-alcohols were gained with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 87.1% ee) and high yields (up to 76.7%) after the conditions were optimized.

Abstract:A highly efficient, atom-economical α-allylation reaction of NH(2)-unprotected amino acid esters and alkynes is achieved by chiral aldehyde/palladium combined catalysis. Abstract:The allylation of aldehydes is a fundamental transformation in synthetic organic chemistry. Among the multitude of available reagents, especially allylsilanes have been established as preferred allyl source. As initially reported by Hosomi & Sakurai, these non-toxic and highly stable reagents add to carbonyls via an open transition state upon Lewis acid activation. Herein, we report a general strategy to access a variety of valuable homoallylic alcohols in opposite chemo- and diastereoselectivity to the established Hosomi–Sakurai conditions by switching to photocatalytic activation in combination with a closed transition state (Chromium catalysis). Moreover, this dual catalytic approach displays a straightforward way to introduce excellent levels of enantioselectivity and its mild conditions allow for a broad substrate scope including chiral boron-substituted products as a highlight. To emphasize the synthetic utility, our method was applied as the key step in the synthesis of a bioactive compound and in the late-stage functionalization of steroid derivatives. Detailed mechanistic studies and DFT calculations hint towards an unprecedented photo-initiated chain being operative.

Abstract:The first asymmetric trifluoromethylated allylic alkylation of pyrazolones using α-(trifluoromethyl)alkenyl acetates as a novel trifluoromethylated allylation reagent is described, affording various functionalized chiral pyrazolones containing a trifluoromethylated allyl substituent in high yields with excellent regio-/enantio-/diastereoselectivities. Mechanistically, the double-bond migration of α-(trifluoromethyl)alkenyl acetates in the presence of 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene is initial and interesting step. Abstract:A ternary catalytic system comprising a chiral aldehyde, a transition metal, and a Lewis acid is rationally designed for the asymmetric α-allylic alkylation reaction of aza-aryl methylamines and π-allylmetal electrophiles. Structural diversity chiral amines bearing carbon–carbon double bonds and aza-heterocycles are produced in moderate to good yields with good to excellent enantioselectivities. These products can be readily converted into other chiral amines without the loss of enantioselectivity. Abstract:A family of chiral organometallic triangles based on cis-Pt(PEt3)2 metallocorners and enantiopure atropisomeric bis(alkynyl) bridging ligands (L1-4) has been synthesized and characterized by 1H, 13C{1H}, and 31P{1H} NMR, UV-vis, and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopies, FAB and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, and microanalysis. Metallocycle 4 which contains three 1,1'-bi-2-naphthol functionalities in combination with Ti(iOPr)4 has been shown to be an excellent catalyst for highly enantioselective additions of diethylzinc to aromatic aldehydes to afford chiral secondary alcohols. This research illustrates the potential of generating novel functional materials on the basis of supramolecular chemistry.
