Abstract:Based on analyses on existing indicators for evaluating journals in the humanities and social sciences and our experience in constructing the Chinese Social Science Citation Index（CSSCI）,we proposed a comprehensive system for evaluating Chinese academic journals in the humanities and social sciences.This system constitutes 8 primary indicators and 17 sub-indicators for multidisciplinary journals and 19 sub-indicators for discipline-specific journals.Each indicator or sub-indicator is assigned a suitable weight according to its importance in terms of measuring a journal’s academic quality and/or impact.

Abstract:Statistical analysis for the international outcome of Humanities and Social Sciences in the past three decades is very important for clarifying the development process of the subjects.Hence,the paper takes SSCI and A & HCI as source of information to analyze quantitatively the international outcome of Humanities and Social Sciences in the past three decades.The results show that the international output of Peking University is the maximum,Chinese Academy of Social Sciences had a stable international output in the early stage of the reform,psychology is one of the major disciplines of international output,and the Chinese Academy of Sciences' h index is the highest.

Abstract:Based on the data collected from CSSCI(1998-2003),each humanity and social science discipline paper structure of 38 research oriented universities of science and technology are analyzed quantitatively,some indicators such as range,standard deviation,variability coefficient,concentration ratio,etc.are utilized respectively.Discipline scale differences and unbalance of the structure among universities are also investigated.In order to improve the research level,these steps should be taken,namely,paying more attentions to humanity and social science disciplines,constructing harmonious discipline structure,attracting and cultivating talented persons.

Abstract:Using the data collected from CSSCI (Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index), this quantitative analysis tries to evaluate the general situation of ethnic and anthropological studies in China in 2005 and 2006. The analysis includes examining citation of papers in this field, the relations between funding and the academic papers, and the academic influence of ethnic and anthropological journals. The CSSCI-based analysis shows the progress of ethnic and anthropological studies in China in several perspectives, such as the extension of research view of Chinese scholars and their attention to the achievement of foreign colleagues.

Abstract:Based on bibliometric methods,the article makes a comparative study on the papers published by the scholars of Mainland China,Taiwan and Hong Kong in 66 foreign periodicals in the field of Information Science & Library Science(ISLS) included in Social Sciences Citation Index from 2000 to 2010.A series of quantitative analysis has been made from the aspects of publications,periodicals,affiliations,cooperation,citations and so on.The result of the research mainly shows that average annual growth rates of research output of three areas are more than the world's in the last ten years,especially Mainland andTaiwan,and the papers of Taiwan and Hong Kong make a great impact in the world,whereas the quality of papers of Mainland should be improved.

Abstract:Academic journals,by which academic influence of a country is indicated,provide important sources for research.The number of papers collected by the three US science citation databases(SCI,SSCI,AHCI) is an important index of a discipline's international academic influence.An analysis of academic papers indexed by the three science citation databases over the last three decades in our country reveals that great gaps exist in the number of papers indexed by each database,which embodies great imbalance in the development and international academic influence of the three subjects,of which natural science developed at a high speed,social science developed rapidly,and art and humanities developed slowly.In order to enhance the international academic influence of our country,policies should be stipulated to balance the development of different subjects.The way to classify subjects should be reformed: the philosophical social science should be divided into two subjects——social science and art humanities.Correct methods should be used in evaluating different subjects and measures should be taken to assist academic journals in entering international citation databases and thereby promote the internationalization.

Abstract:Compared with universities and colleges in Taiwan China,Japan,and South Korea,there was a considerable increase in the publication output originating from universities within Mainland China between 1978 and 2007;however the total number was less than those in Taiwan China,Japan,and South Korea.For each country/region considered,the majority of articles were published by universities and colleges,with Mainland China having the lowest proportion of articles published by universities and colleges.Additionally,the percentage of internationally co-authored articles of universities in Mainland China went up just like those in South Korea,Japan and Taiwan China.The most productive universities in Mainland China,Taiwan China,Japan,and South Korea are those that received significant government support.

Abstract:The scientific performance of National Taiwan University (NTU) and Peking University (PKU) were compared by two indicators, namely citations per publication and h-index, based on the data extracted from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-Expanded), Social Science Citation Index (SSCI), and Arts & Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI) Web of Science from 2000 to 2009. Analyzed aspects covered publication outputs, publication patterns, and international and inter-institutional collaborations of the two universities. The two universities were in the same scale based on the number of publications. Articles from electrical and electronic engineering dominated the other articles in NTU while PKU researchers published a great number of articles in the basic science fields. Material science was the new field for these two universities. The USA had the greatest number of collaborated articles accounting for 15% and 12% of total articles with NTU and PKU respectively. Article impact followed a decreasing order of international collaboration, inter-institutional collaboration, and independent articles for both universities. PKU articles had higher visibility. In addition, the Essential Science Indicators were applied to investigate the research activities of NTU and PKU.

Abstract:The three international indexes are important factors to measure an institutions academic level and research ability and to some extent,reflect the academic standards of the basic research on natural science.A statistical analysis in this paper is conducted to reveal the situation of the academic essays of Shandong Jianzhu University,which are cited and included by SCI,EI,ISTP from 2005 to 2009,academic level,scientific research ability and academic communication skills.Finally,some suggestions are made to improve the level of the academic essays,which are cited and included by the three retrieval systems.
