Meta-Analysis of the association between smoking and the risk for Alzheimer's disease

Abstract:Objective To study the impact of smoking on Alzheimer's disease.Methods The references were retrieved through the databases of CNKI,HighWire Press ,Medline.The fixed effects model of the meta-Analysis was then chosen to analysis the data from references by Revman version 5.0.Results There were twenty-four references including 3187 cases and 4607 controlled left after quality evaluation.The homogeneity of the references was moderate after test of heterogeneity(x2=39.71,P=0.03,I2=37%).The pooled odds ratio was 0.75 and the confidence interval was 0.65~0.86.However ,the analysis of data obtained after 2001 did not show an positive correlation(OR=0.85 ,95%CI:0.72~1.01,Z=1.79,P=0.07).Conclusions The further study is needed to study the association between smoking and AD.
