Abstract:In this paper, we study the asymptotic properties for estimators of two parameters in the drift function in the ergodic fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process with Hurst index H ∈ (0,1 2) . The Cramér-type moderate deviations, as well as the moderation deviations with explicit rate function can be obtained. The main methods consist of the deviation inequalities and Cramér-type moderate deviations for multiple Wiener-Itô integrals, as well as the asymptotic analysis techniques.

Abstract:This paper deals with the problem of estimating the parameters for fractional Ornstein–Uhlenbeck processes from discrete observations when the Hurst parameter H is known. Both the drift and the diffusion coefficient estimators of discrete form are obtained based on approximating integrals via Riemann sums with Hurst parameter H∈(1/2,3/4). By adapting the stochastic integral representation to the fractional Brownian motion, these two estimators can be efficiently computed by the use of computer software. Numerical examples are presented to examine the performance of our method. An application to real data is also presented to show how to apply this method in practice.

Abstract:In this paper, we will first give the numerical simulation of the sub-fractional Brownian motion through the relation of fractional Brownian motion instead of its representation of random walk. In order to verify the rationality of this simulation, we propose a practical estimator associated with the LSE of the drift parameter of mixed sub-fractional Ornstein–Uhlenbeck process, and illustrate the asymptotical properties according to our method of simulation when the Hurst parameter H>1/2 .

Abstract:This paper proposes a minimum contrast methodology to estimate the drift parameter for the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process driven by fractional Brownian motion of Hurst index, which is greater than one half. Both the strong consistency and the asymptotic normality of this minimum contrast estimator are studied based on the Laplace transform. The numerical simulation results confirm the theoretical analysis and show that the minimum contrast technique is effective and efficient.

Abstract:This paper proposes estimators for the parameters of an explosive fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. The asymptotic properties for the diffusion estimators are developed under the in-fill asymptotic scheme, while the asymptotic properties for the drift estimators are developed under the double asymptotic scheme for the full range of the Hurst parameter. The double asymptotic distribution of the estimator of the persistency parameter explicitly depends on the initial condition. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed estimators, and the asymptotic distributions provide a good approximation in finite samples. An empirical application is presented to demonstrate the model's usefulness and the practical value of the asymptotic theory.
Estimation and Inference in Fractional Ornstein–Uhlenbeck Model with Discrete-Sampled Data∗

Abstract:This paper proposes a two-stage method for estimating parameters in the fractional Ornstein–Uhlenbeck model based on discrete-sampled observations. In the first stage, two “diffusion” parameters (i.e. the Hurst parameter and the volatility parameter) are estimated based on the second order differences obtained at two different time scales. Their asymptotic theory is established under an in-fill asymptotic scheme. In the second stage, the two drift parameters are estimated based on the ergodic theorem. Their asymptotic theory is established under a double asymptotic scheme. Extensive simulation studies show that the proposed estimators perform well. Two empirical studies are carried out. The first empirical study, based on the daily VIX data over 2004-2017, shows that VIX is rough. The Hurst parameter is slightly but statistically significantly less than one half. It also shows that the persistence parameter is much larger than one divided by the time span, suggesting that a commonly adopted assumption in the literature can be too strong. The second empirical study, based on the daily realized volatility of S&P 500, DJIA and Nasdaq over 2011-2017, shows that the Hurst parameter is much less than one half and the persistence parameter is significantly larger than one divided by the time span. Abstract:Fractional Ornstein–Uhlenbeck process is an extended model of the traditional Ornstein–Uhlenbeck process that provides some useful models for many physical and financial phenomena demonstrating long-range dependencies. Obviously, if some phenomenon can be modeled by fractional Ornstein–Uhlenbeck processes, the problem of estimating unknown parameters in these models is of great interest, especially, in discrete time. This paper deals with the problem of estimating the unknown parameters in fractional Ornstein–Uhlenbeck processes. The estimation procedure is built upon the marriage of the quadratic variation method and the maximum likelihood approach. The consistency of these estimators is also provided. Simulation outcomes illustrate that our methodology is efficient and reliable.

Thäle, Cumulants on Wiener chaos: Moderate deviations and the fourth moment theorem, J. Funct. Anal. 270 (2016) 2223–2248], as well as the Delta methods in large deviations [F. Q. Gao and X. Q. For applications, we propose two test statistics which can be used to construct confidence intervals and rejection regions in the hypothesis testing for the drift coefficient. Abstract:This paper deals with the problem of estimating the unknown parameters in the drift mixed fractional Brownian motion based on discrete-sampled observations. We construct two different estimators for the drift parameter based on the approximation by random walks of the driving noise and prove the consistency of these two estimators. Some numerical simulations are also presented to illustrate the performance of these maximum likelihood estimators. Empirical examples are given to illustrate the potential applications of these proposed estimators.

Abstract:While the statistical inference of Vasicek processes driven by both Brownian motions and fractional Brownian motions has a long history, the statistical analysis for the Vasicek model driven by other fractional Gaussian processes is obviously more recent. This paper considers the parameter estimation problem for Vasicek processes driven by sub-fractional Brownian motions with the known Hurst parameter greater than one half. Since the maximum likelihood estimators are hardly analyzed because of the stochastic integrals with singular kernels, least squares estimators for drift parameters are provided based on time-continuous observations. The strong consistency results as well as the asymptotic distributions of these estimators are obtained in both the non-ergodic case and the null recurrent case.

Abstract:This article deals with the problem of estimating all the unknown parameters in the drift fractional Brownian motion with discretely sampled data. The estimation procedure is built upon the marriage of the variation method and the ergodic theory. The strong consistencies of these estimators are provided. Moreover, our method and two existing approaches are compared based on the computational running time and the accuracy of estimation via simulation studies. We also apply the proposed method to the real high-frequency financial data within a window of 4 h in the trading day from the Chinese mainland stock market.

Abstract:This article develops an asymptotic theory for estimators of two parameters in the drift function in the fractional Vasicek model when a continuous record of observations is available. The fractional Vasicek model with long-range dependence is assumed to be driven by a fractional Brownian motion with the Hurst parameter greater than or equal to one half. It is shown that, when the Hurst parameter is known, the asymptotic theory for the persistence parameter depends critically on its sign, corresponding asymptotically to the stationary case, the explosive case, and the null recurrent case. In all three cases, the least squares method is considered, and strong consistency and the asymptotic distribution are obtained. When the persistence parameter is positive, the estimation method of Hu and Nualart (2010) is also considered.
