Abstract:In recent years, prominent achievements have been made in China in publishing the Eng- lish translation of Chinese literature. Meanwhile, the overseas acceptance of the translation is also becoming a hot issue in the academic circle. In the discussion of this topic, the focus is on how to maintain the cultural flavour while making it acceptable to the English readership. To push the debate, this thesis introduces the methods of "borrowing" and "comparing". The first part summarizes the history of Chinese literature going to the world, pointing out that thanks to the active effort by the western scholars, Chinese literature has made itself accepted and created a research tradition among the western scholarship. But in terms of its acceptance among the general public, the situation is different. With this in mind the author suggests with an analysis that the methods of borrowing and comparing be utilized. The idea is to make full use of the global popularity of the English literature, comparing the similarity between the Chinese and Western literary works in order to win the echoing on the part of the English readership through their association. In doing so, it is possible to further the international spread of Chinese litera- ture.
