Abstract:A novel algorithm for the license plate attribute identification is presented(attribute means one-row or two-row characters that license plate really has in this paper).The proposed approach provides a solution to the traditional vehicle license plate recognition system to differentiate the existing license plates with different style based on their dissimilarities in size,character number and alignment fashion.It overcomes the defects caused by the traditional methods based on pixels projection.What it remarkably differs from the traditional methods is the application of image pruning and the calculation of maximum character pixels distance,which increases the identification rate to an extent.The approach takes the pixels' spatial distribution into account.There are four steps to perform the attribute identification,that is,object region extraction,margin detection,maximum character pixels distance calculation and hierarchical-based distributed fusion.Experimental results demonstrate the method's accuracy,feasibility and robustness.It would be a potentially significant contribution to the active area of license plate recognition system.

Abstract:In most countries, vehicle license plates contain both alph anumeric characters and the state/province of origin. State/province recognition of the license plate provides a dditional information to the traffic management agency and g uidance information, aiding in character segmentation and in recognition. Existing methods use the character string of the sta te name only. Unfortunately, in some countries, the state name is too small to be captured clearly by a low-definition video camera and m ay also be obstructed by the license plate frame. In this study, we analyze the characteristics of license plates and propose an i ssuing state recognition method based on adaptive unique logo matching (AULM) and state name string recognition (SNSR). First, the AULM approach utilizes template matching to recognize the distinguishable logos. Second, if the logo is not located, the SNSR method is applied. The new method is compared with existing practices, and the experimental results show that the proposed method achieves higher accuracy and is more suitable when using high- or low-definition video images.

Abstract:To locate the license plate exactly is a challenging task, especially for the license plates with complex backgrounds or shadows. Firstly, we use a multilevel local adaptive thresholding method instead of global thresholding methods to produce binary images under varying illuminations. Secondly, the connected contour analysis is applied to extract the main characters, and the false character contour regions are filtered out by the SVM classification method using PCA dimensionality reduction. Finally, we merge the remaining characters on the same line to extract candidate regions of the license plate. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves higher accuracy, more acceptable and precise results. By using the data sets of the license plates in the USA and Europe, the method is shown to be suitable for multi-style license plates.

Abstract:A new, robust, and computationally efficient algorithm for the license plate attribute identification is presented. (attribute means one-row or two-row characters that a license plate has in this paper). Analysis and Extraction of Structural Features of Alphabetic and Digital Characters on Vehicle License Plate

Abstract:In this paper the structural properties of alphabetic and digital characters on vehicle license plate are analyzed in detail and three types of feature are extracted for their recognition. These features include (a) global ones, i.e. closed curve in character, which can be used for character coarse classification; (b) minutiae, which are some key points in thinned image such as endings, bifurcations and crossings of strokes and can be used for character precise classification, (c) corners in strokes which can be used to discriminate similar characters. Algorithms for fast detection of closed curve based on theory of graph and minutiae and for corner finding based on external contour lines of binary image are also discussed. The recognition rate of alphabetic and digit character of the system based on these structural features is approximate to 96% and the time for feature extraction and character recognition is about 20ms/character. This shows that the proposed structural features have good discriminating power of similar characters and can be used for the fast classification and recognition of characters on vehicle license plate.

Abstract:License plate recognition (LPR) system has many applications. Character extraction is a key step in LPR system. The proposed character extraction method in this paper is mainly according to plate's geometrical characteristic and supplementary with the scan of projection image. Subsequently, locate the plate character sequence, then do more jobs on false characters elimination and verify the validity of extracted characters. The above methods lead to an ideal character extraction result which leads higher recognition accuracy of the LPR system.

Abstract:Various methods are proposed for license plate recognition, but none of them are universal. Some common methods for license plate localization, character extraction, and recognition are analyzed. Then a system is proposed to recognize the Bahamian license plate with touching characters. A vertical edge-based method with a modified sliding window technique is used to locate the license plate, and a machine learning process is used to trim the region. The located license plate is rectified by using the minimum enclosing box and the stroke width value. Then the vertical projection and pairs of extreme points are combined to segment the characters. Finally, a deep learning method is used to recognize the characters. 2996 images are experimented on and the total recognition accuracy achieves 83.29%. Typical methods of each stage are implemented to compare with the proposed methods. In addition, the proposed system is experimented on a public dataset to show the generalization ability of the system. The experimental results show that the proposed system performs better than the other methods and is able to be used in a real-time application. (C) 2016 SPIE and IS&T.

Abstract:In this paper, a novel recognition method is proposed aiming at the current difficulties existing in Car License Plate Characters recognition. Firstly, the method builds three Template Libraries apart including Chinese characters, English letters and Figure. The character to be recognized is preprocessed involving normalization, refinement and so on. And then, it is identified by using modified Hausdorff distance template matching method. Abstract:This paper presents the algorithms to locate license plate and recognize the characters on it. These algorithms have three advantages. First, they have strong robustness to against many noises and disturbances. Second, the methods can deal with license plates with different colors. Third, the recognition methods based on artificial neural network are suitable for Chinese characters.

Abstract:An approach of character recognition of license plate image based on multiple classifiers is proposed in this paper. For numbers and English characters, features are extracted from binary character images by ET1, DT12 and jumping. For Chinese characters, features are extracted from gray-scale character images by Gabor filters which are specially designed from statistical information. In order to access a high recognition rate, 3 classifiers are used. They are SVM, BP ANN and minimum distance classifier. All the classifiers are arranged by a structure of voting. Experiments show that the proposed method has effective performance on Chinese character image recognition.

Abstract:In this paper, we have proposed a novel approach of license plate recognition system by adopting comprehensive features of license plate. Firstly, we originally combine the stroke width of license plate character with specified colors of license plate to segment the license plate region. Then, we use linear fitting method and projecting method to rectify the position of slant license plate. Furthermore, we utilize connecting region searching method to segment English and digital characters, and creatively utilize relocation method to segment the Chinese character in order to reduce distortion. At last, we adopt number of holes and peripheral distance curves to recognize English or digital characters, and creatively adopt affine moment invariants and stroke statistic feature to recognize Chinese characters. In the experiment, we test our algorithm using lots of car images having various backgrounds and different illumination situations, and the accuracy of license plate segmentation reaches as high as 96.5% and the average accuracy of license plate character recognition is 93%.

Abstract:A method of characters in vehicle number-plate using pattern match and neural networks is presented. This method integrates the advantages of pattern match and neural networks recognizing characters in vehicle number-plate. It can be used to solve at the same time the problem that only pattern match or neural network is difficult to recognize the characters. The recognition rate can be improved with the recognition time reduced and the adaptable ability of recognition method increased. The experimental results show that, for a vehicle number-plate, recognition rate of characters is more than 90% and the recognition time of characters is less than 1.2 second by using this method. It is obvious that this method is of more effective recognition ability than other methods.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel method of real-time recognizing the vehicle license based on the integrated modularized neural,network. Some locations in the license plate contain Arabic numeral only and the others contain Arabic numeral, English letter or Chinese character. According to,the complexity, the two kinds of network structuress omega(i)/omega(j) and omega(i)/omega(j) are organized and the outputs are integrated under the given fuzzy rules to perform the recognition tasks. The results of the experiment have shown,that this method can recognize the characters quickly and accurately.

Abstract:This paper studies the problem of character recognition in real time dynamic vehicle, and puts forward a new method to combine the improved neural network technology with the improved template matching method.Based on image boundary segmentation technology, based on vertical projection method, the character segmentation method is divided accurately, then the character recognition is realized by character network feature method, and the result is output character recognition.The experimental results show that the improved algorithm improves the real time of the system while ensuring the accuracy of license plate matching.

Abstract:According to the current technological deficiency of license plate recognition, this paper uses digital graphic processing technique and BP Neural Network algorithm fusion to achieve automatic recognition of license plate. Input the image settled in the previous period in the trained BP neural network to obtain the final license plate character through simulation. Abstract:The recognition of vehicle license plate plays a very important role in intelligence transportation system.It has wide application ranges.In automatic recognition process,the Chinese character in the car license has the quantity to be few and the font characteristics are inherent,therefore its projection characteristic is obvious.Using projection characteristic to recognize license plate can be used for rapid classification.But the precision is not high.Neural network classification is accurate,and has strong robustness,but the operation is large,also not easy to restrain.In this paper,license plate location based on projection character and alternate covering neural network method can be used to combine the advantages of them,and overcome the shortcomings of them,so it can achieve better results.

Abstract:The traditional character recognition technology has some deficiencies in the recognition of vehicle license plate.This paper introduces a new recognition algorithm with multi-classifier-template matching and parallel computing of neural networks.For the Chinese characters recognition,the coarse classification and double course computing method facing Chinese characters are used.For the recognition of mixing of English and numbers,the coarse classification and double course computing method facing letters are applied.For the number recognition,simple digital BP neural network is adopted.The methods can reduce the searching range,take full advantage of recognition merit of template matching and BP neural network algorithm,improve accuracy rate of recognition for license plate characters,and increase operation speed further.
