Abstract:Objective To explore the relation between the serum lipid level and state of severity in patients with stroke in early stage. Methods The 548 stroke inpatients (onset less 24 h), including 214 hemorrhagic stroke and 334 ischemic stroke, were detected the serum lipid level from December 2002 to August 2004 by prospective cohort study . The stroke severity on admission was assessed using Scandinavian Stroke Scale (SSS). The relation was analyzed between serum total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG) levels and stroke type, as well as between the serum level and initial stroke severity. Results The serum TC and TG levels of hemorrhagic stroke patients were (4.30±1.16) mmol/L,(1.37±0.72)mmol/L,respectively, and significantly lower than those of ischemic stroke patients [TC(4.90±1.15)mmol/L,TG (1.52±0.94) mmol/L,all P0.001].443 cases with TC6.0 mmol/L or 356 cases with TG2.0 mmol/L had lower SSS (32.76±18.63,29.21±18.25) on admission than those of patients with TC6.0 mmol/L or TG2.0 mmol/L(44.83±14.13,45.95±13.21,allP0.001). Conclusions Patients with hemorrhagic stroke have lower levels TC and TG in serum than those of patients with ischemic stroke. Lower levels TC and TG in serum at early stage of stroke are associated with more severe condition.
