Abstract:Effect of Fe supply to half of roots on growth and Fe uptake in apple seedlings was studied using split-root technique under the solution culture condition. The results showed that the actual iron requirement in the plants was not decreased, but even increased the total Fe absorption and uptake at the early stage of the split-root treatment, however, the content of active Fe was not reduced and there was not chlorosis appeared in leaves of Malus xiaojinensis and M.baccata plants, although only half of the roots were supplied with Fe.The seedlings had no chlorosis of plants, even the M.baccata to which belongs iron-inefficient species.Fe supply to half of roots could satisfy the demand of plants, this might demonstrate the role of the roots in the regulation of the iron deficiency in M.xiaojinensis and suggest how to apply Fe fertilizer rationally.
