Abstract:In order to effectively improve the vehicle safety, this paper proposed an electronic brake force distribution scheme and an anti-lock brake scheme for passenger car based on a novel brake-by-wire system. The brake-by-wire system was introduced at first, then the electronic brake force distribution scheme and anti-lock brake scheme are designed after analyzing of brake system and vehicle model. At last, the experiment is accomplished to prove the feasibility of the novel brake-by-wire actuator, and the co-simulations of vehicle based on Matlab/Simulink and AMESim are accomplished for typical braking process to prove the superiority of proposed brake-by-wire system and brake scheme. On the one hand, the experiment and simulation results show that the proposed electronic brake force distribution scheme is able to distribute the braking force according to braking intensity and conditions. So the β curve can as close as possible to the I curve. On the other hand, the anti-lock brake scheme is able to accurately regulate the wheel slip rate and adapt to different brake intensity. So the anti-lock brake scheme processes strong robust performance.

Abstract:Brake-by-wire technology is a development direction of the future automotive brake technology which has aroused extensive concern of domestic and foreign car manufacturers .Since the existing automotive electromechanical brake (EMB) was lack of wear compensation device which was specified in the national standard ,GB12676 — 2014 ,an innovative EMB with gap auto-matic adjustment function was designed .The mathematical models of drive motor , motor friction ,worm and gear ,ball screw and loading were established by MATLAB /Simulink .By building the EMB bench ,the braking performance differences between simulation and experiment were tested and analyzed under the signal of step ,triangle wave ,square wave and sinusoidal wave .The braking performances of EMB with the gap automatic adjustment function or nor were also tested and analyzed .The experimental results showed that the start-current of the EMB sys-tem had a "peak" characteristic and the clamping force was sensitive ,which could meet the bra-king requirements .According to the experimental data ,the parameter relations were concluded :the clamping force was linearly related to the locked-rotor current ,and the characteristics of cubic polynomial were met by the relationship between clamping force and screw displacement .The correctness of the mathematical model was verified by the simulation and experimental results .A theoretical basis for reducing the force sensor and other devices could be provided by the conclu -sion of parameters relational characteristics .The experimental outcome indicates that the gap au-tomatic adjustment function of the new EMB can guarantee that the brake gap and the response time are consistent at each time ,which can further improve the safety of brakes .

Abstract:BBW (Brake by Wire) system improved day by day, as safety control of transport is one of the most pressing issues. A new EHB (electric hydraulic brake) booster has been proposed in this paper to develop cars in a way that it can reduce a possibility of accidents and minimizing their consequences. EHB with main cylinder electric booster is a typical BBW system. As no vacuum used to drive the EHB system, it is the best choice for the modern transportation technology. The effect of the brake is comfortable because of the motor, which is used to assist in braking and it makes braking softer. Also in case of any fault, emergency braking is always available which is fully manual and without the assistance of any motor. After the Analysis of many EHB booster designs, in this paper, a locking and unlocking hook system is introduced to control the braking system. It is a first approach that is simple and cost-effective. This brake system is an excellent choice because it is very safe, calculated, and serviceable in complete electrical vehicles. We used gear transmission system to achieve the required braking force with a little amount of torque. We also used SOLIDWORKS to design the model of the EHB booster and test dynamics. Introduced a mathematical model to change motor torque to linear force by using a ball screw mechanism. We verified it with MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation and Amesim model simulation. Reaction force, due to the fluid present in the main cylinder, was taken into account and a closed loop MATLAB/SIMULINK model was utilized to check kinematics of the designed booster.

Abstract:A brake-by-wire (BBW) hydraulic brake valve with mechanical backup is developed and its control performance is tested and analyzed. Based on BBW, a series hybrid brake system for a fuel-cell vehicle is built with corresponding control algorithm for electro-hydraulic braking designed. A hardware-in-the-loop simulation on series hybrid braking process is conducted. The results show that the system achieves the series application of motor regenerative braking and hydraulic friction braking, effectively enhancing braking energy recovery rate.

Abstract:In this paper, a new braking system EWB (Electronic Wedge Brake) with multi-rollers is presented. EWB is a BBW (Brake by Wire) braking system, using self-reinforcement effect of the wedge mechanism. This effect makes EWB reduce consumption of electricity. Compared with traditional EMB (Electronic Mechanical Brake), EWB can work at lower power supply, such as 12V, which makes EWB has great advantage over those EMB braking systems with higher power supply, e.g.42V. The proposed design can realize normal braking function, and also can realize parking braking. In this paper, the configuration of EWB with multi-rollers is presented, and the modelling of main parts of the EWB system is given using the software Matlab/Simulink. Meanwhile, the EWB experimental bench is built, and preliminary experiments are carried out. The results of experiment show the practicability of the proposed design.

Abstract:Brake-by-wire system is potentially employed in electric vehicle and autonomous vehicle thanks to the controllability on hydraulic pressure of wheel brakes. In this paper, a newly designed electronic control hydraulic braking (ECHB) system is founded as the brake-by-wire system. With the consideration lying on the regenerative braking and active braking performance, braking forces distribution of ECHB system in front and rear wheel brakes as well as motor regenerative braking force is introduced. Hydraulic braking system and motor drive are working cooperatively as the driver's braking demand is fulfilled in regenerative braking, and hydraulic pressure is allocated properly to avoid the wheel locking to enhance active braking safety. A comprehensive modeling process is developed with hydraulic braking system in AMESim, vehicle dynamics in CarSim, and braking control unit (BCU) and motor drive in MATLAB/Simulink respectively. Two co-simulation scenarios are programed for ECHB system evaluation: typical regenerative braking and active braking conditions. Simulation results are analyzed with depiction and calculation according to the dynamic performance. Effectiveness and feasibility of proposed ECHB system are concluded in view of energy economy and braking safety enhancement.

Abstract:This paper presents a detailed analytical model development which can describe the dynamic behavior of the electromechanical brake-by-wire (BBW) system over the entire operating range. The complete model has 10 degree-of-freedom (DOF) and includes essential nonlinearities such as gear backlashes, Coulomb frictions, and disk gap clearance. Such a full model is reduced to 6 degree-of-freedom model in SIMULINK for simulation study of the effectiveness and the achievable performance of different hardware and controller designs, an invaluable tool in the early design stage of a product. Simulation results show that the model is able to reproduce various nonlinear characteristics including typical structural hysteresis as shown in real brake assembly. The linearized version of the full nonlinear model is then obtained for its modal properties to understand the modes that are critical to the low frequency dynamics of the overall system. The results of the modal analyses are subsequently utilized to obtain two simplified models, one for non-contact mode and the other for the contact mode of operation. The concepts of two simplified models well capture the dynamic characteristics of the system over the frequencies of interest and are being used in the controller (e.g., clamping force control) and estimator (e.g., gap clearance estimation) designs that are under investigation.

Abstract:According to the law of rigid body around fixed axis rotation, established the mathematical model of motor drive current and instantaneous rotational speed. From the ideal situation of the simulation, according to the same discrete interval of time equal to the same increment of spindle angular velocity conditions, established the discrete closed-loop control system model. In allusion to the disadvantage of calculating corresponding braking current by the instantaneous speed and the instantaneous braking torque measured during the last interval, proposed the control method of calculating braking current by the instantaneous speed and the instantaneous braking torque measured all discrete intervals before current time. Discussed emphatically the computer controlled method based on the discrete closed-loop and phase-locked loop theory which can be used to design the braking current. Evaluated the advantages and disadvantages of the model, and proposed the improved direction.

Abstract:The automatic driving technology of vehicle is being carried out in real road environment, however, the application of unmanned vehicle still needs proof and practice. Autonomous vehicles will be in the stage of co-drive for a long time, that is, driver-control and autonomous system assisting or autonomous system control and driver assisting. The braking system of the intelligent vehicle needs to work in driver driving mode or automatic driving mode during a long stage. Brake-by Wire system is the development trend of vehicle braking system. The brake modes of the Brake-by-Wire system can be switched easily and it can satisfy the demand for braking system of the intelligent vehicle. However, when the driving mode changes, the characteristic of the braking intention and braking demand will change. In order to improve the braking performance of the intelligent vehicle, hydraulic pressure control and parameter optimization of the Brake-by-Wire system during different driving modes should be different.Researches are made on hydraulic pressure control and parameter optimization of the Brake-by-Wire system with consideration on differences of braking intensity input and braking requirement between driver driving mode and automatic driving mode through theory analysis, Matlab/Simulink-AMESim simulation and bench test. The study is helpful for improving the braking performance of Brake-by-Wire system in hydraulic pressure control of driver automation cooperative driving.

Abstract:In this paper, a novel electro-hydraulic braking system of low-floor vehicle is developed. Theoretical models of the three-way proportional pressure reducing screw-in cartridge valve and electro-hydraulic braking system are obtained. A system design criterion is established based on the analysis of the three-way proportional pressure reducing screw-in cartridge valve. A switched adaptive fuzzy proportional–differential–integral controller is proposed to reduce the effect of change in the reference input. The performances of the proposed controller are compared with the adaptive fuzzy proportional–differential–integral controller and conventional proportional–differential–integral controller. Numerical simulation and experimental test are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the models and the proposed controller.

Abstract:Brake-by-wire (BBW) system is a basic and significant component for intelligent vehicles and electric vehicles. During autonomous emergency braking process, the dynamic response requirement of the BBW actuator motor is very high. Hence, a dynamic decoupling control method is proposed for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) of BBW system to improve the dynamic response performance. First, a PMSM dynamic model and a thermodynamic model of stator winding are built. Then, the inductance and flux linkage parameters are identified based on recursive least squares and the back electromotive force formula, and an accurate relationship between inductance and flux linkage parameters and motor temperature is obtained. Finally, a dynamic decoupling control method based on the intensive binary dichotomy table method is designed. The results both of simulations and experiments show that the proposed method shorten the boost time by 18.30%, thereby reducing the braking time by 9.63%.
Adaptive Dual-Loop Hydraulic Pressure Controller for Electric Booster Brake System

Abstract:X-by-wire (XBW) technologies lay the foundation for electric and autonomous vehicles, and one of the most important aspects is the brake-by-wire (BBW) systems, among which, the electro-hydraulic brake (EHB) has already been applied to commercial vehicles successfully. To satisfy the demands for fast response and high reliability of the BBW system, a novel electric booster (E-Booster) combined with EHB is designed in this paper actuated by a BLDC motor. By careful analysis, a detailed model of the EHB system with E-Booster is established. As precise pressure control is crucial for the performance of EHB system, a dual-loop adaptive control algorithm is proposed which could attenuate external disturbances even with unknown system parameters. Finally, simulation results prove the effectiveness of the proposed control method. Moreover, this control scheme has the potential to be integrated into advanced applications, such as active vehicle dynamics control of intelligent and autonomous vehicles.

Abstract:Brake-by-wire system is becoming the vital actuating component in electrified vehicles and autonomous vehicles. This paper proposes a newly designed electronic hydraulic brake control system integrated with the featured specialties including regenerative and anti-lock braking control. The running principle behind the electronic hydraulic brake control system is studied in detail to illustrate the different usages when adapted to various braking conditions. To coordinate with the electromechanical system, a combined braking control strategy is presented. A complete electric vehicle simulation system is built on basis of MATLAB/Simulink, AMESim and CarSim, and the simulation is carried out in two typical scenarios of regenerative and anti-lock braking process. The simulation results show the proposed integrated electronic hydraulic brake system has the effectiveness in the performance evaluation of energy recovery and emergency braking conditions.

Abstract:The high redundant brake-by-wire system reveals vehicular safety handling ability and rarely emerges in the automotive area at the present time. This paper presents a novel brake-by-wire system, DREHB (Double Redundant Electro-Hydraulic Brake), with extensible fail-safe operations for high-automation autonomous driving vehicles. The DREHB is designed as a decoupled-architecture system containing three-layer cascaded modules, including a hydraulic power provider, a hydraulic flow switcher, and a hydraulic pressure modulator, and each of the modules can share dual redundancy. The operating principles of the DREHB in normal and degraded initiative braking modes are introduced, especially for the consideration of fail-safe and fail-operational functions. The matching and optimization of selected key parameters of the electric boost master cylinder and the linear solenoid valve were conducted using computer-aided batched simulations with a DREHB system modeled in MATLAB/Simulink and AMESim. The prototype of the DREHB was tested in hardware-in-the-loop experiments. The test results of typical braking scenarios verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the DREHB system, and the hydraulic pressure response as 28.0 MPa/s and tracking error within 0.15 MPa and the desirable fail-safe braking ability fully meets the requirements of higher braking safety and efficiency.
Review of Brake-by-Wire System Used in Modern Passenger Car

Abstract:As an important component in brake systems, the Brake by-Wire system has attracted great attention recently with the development of emerging energy vehicle and modern passenger cars. The main feature of the Brake-by-Wire system, in contrast to the conventional braking system, is the elimination of the dependence of the vacuum booster on engine vacuum through decoupling of the brake pedal and the brake actuator. The influences from road surface to the driver's brake feeling can also be eliminated by employment of a brake pedal simulator. The Brake-by-Wire system can greatly improve the automotive safety performance of modern passenger cars, including response time, control capability and stability. As much as the system shows great promise, drawbacks should be addressed as well. For example, design theories on system structure, reliable control strategies, high energy consumption, the modeling of global Brake-by-Wire non-linear dynamic system, poor working conditions and high maintenance costs are major concerns.This paper aims to provide a timely and comprehensive review on the state-of-the-art Brake-by-Wire system used in modern passenger cars. Variety of major components are compared in order to get a more reliable and lower energy consumption system, which includes actuators, pedal simulators and backup brake systems. Researches on control strategies as well as future research direction of Brake-by-Wire system are also discussed.

Abstract:The brake energy recovery technology has become a key technology for electric vehicles which can significantly increase the energy economy of the electric vehicle. By-wire control of friction braking is the basic requirement for regenerative braking. For commercial vehicles with the pneumatic brake system, this article presents a novel electronic pneumatic brake system actuated by a linear motor. The electronic pneumatic brake system was modeled based on Matlab/Simulink and the accuracy of the model was verified by bench test data. Based on the analysis of model characteristic, PID and fuzzy PID controller are designed. The control effect is verified by the hardware-in-loop simulation platform of the electronic pneumatic brake system. Experimental results show that the overall performance of fuzzy PID control is better than PID control. The research can provide a friction braking force control solution for the braking energy recovery technology of an electric bus or truck using a pneumatic brake system.

Abstract:Brake-by-wire system is a new concept of brake system using electromechanical actuators instead of conventional hydraulic actuators. It is more compact, more efficient and responses faster than traditional brake systems. Magneto-rheological (MR) fluid is widely used due to its outstanding properties. In this paper, an MR based Brake-by-wire system with self-energizing capability were proposed and designed. It combined a typical single-disk-type MR brake with a wedge mechanism for self-energizing purpose. According to the torque analysis of the proposed MR brakes, the brake torque was significantly amplified. This research work presented a promising brake actuator, which allows MR fluids to be applied in automotive Brake-by-wire systems.
