Abstract:Plant essential oils are formed by secondary metabolites of aromatic plants.They are valuable natural products and are used as raw materials in many fields,including spices,cosmetics,industries,pharmaceutical and agriculture as they have many biological activities.There are several methods for extracting essential oils.This paper introduced the extraction methods of plant essential oil and the principles.Meanwhile,advantages and disadvantages,application scope,and research progress of these methods were summarized.

Abstract:The experimental equipment for separating pepper oil by supercritical fluid extraction was established. The effects of the extraction pressure, extraction temperature, CO2 flow rate and the particle size of the row material on the extraction rate were investigated, and the optimum process condition of the supercritical fluid extraction for pepper oil was determined. Based on the mass conservation principle for differential units of extraction bed, the numerical simulation model was established. The total of mass transfer driving force and the equilibrium absorption constant were fitted by the linear driving force approximate theory. The simulation results agreed pretty well with the experimental ones.

Abstract:The experimental device for separating pepper oil by supercritical fluid extraction was established.Carbon dioxide was used as extraction reagent.The effects of extraction pressure,extraction temperature,flow rate and feed particle on extraction were investigated,and the optimum process conditions were determined:the extraction pressure 20-26 MPa,the work temperature 313-323 K,the feel particle of pepper oil 30-40 meshes,the flow rate 0.3-0.4 m~3/h and the cumulation extraction rate of pepper oil 80%-90%.Based on the mass conservation principle for differential units of extraction bed and feed particle,the differential equations were established.The total of mass transfer impetus and the equilibrium absorbing constant were fitted by the linear impetus approximate theory,the equations were simplified,and the experimental results were performed with numeric simulation.

Abstract:The passage uses a set of experimental device which is self made to study the technique of separation of pepper oil from pepper with the supercritical fluid CO_2 as extracting solvent.The extraction temperature, extraction pressure,size of pepper granule and flow rate of CO_2 are considered here.The best experimental condition are as follows: the pressure is 22 MPa ,the flow rate of CO_2 is 0.3～0.4(m~3/h),the size of pepper granule is 30～50 mesh and the temperature is 315 K.From all above,we can find the supercritical fluid extraction separation has many advantages: a simple technique,safe to operate,no solvent residual and extraction rate is high etc.

Abstract:In this study, the yield, content of piperine, and antioxidant activity of pepper oleoresin obtained with the methods of maceration, ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE), microwave-assisted extraction (MAE), and ultrasound-MAE (UMAE) were analyzed, and the microstructure of pepper residue was observed. For the yield and piperine content, the UMAE method had the best extraction capacity among the four methods. While, the oleoresin obtained with maceration had the highest total phenolic content, and the antioxidant activity of the oleoresin obtained by maceration was higher than that of the extracts acquired by UAE, MAE, and UMAE, and a high positive correlation was observed between the antioxidant activity and total phenolic content of the oleoresin obtained by these extraction methods. The ideal parameters for UMAE were an 80-mesh particle size and a 1 g/10 mL solid-liquid ratio. The kinetic parameters and models of the UMAE extraction process were also compared using first- and second-order models. The second-order kinetic equation with the lowest root mean square deviation and highest adjusted correlation coefficient proved to be more suitable for describing the extraction kinetics of pepper oleoresin. This study showed that UMAE is a fast, efficient, and cost-effective technique for the extraction of green pepper oleoresin.
Comprehensive Extraction of Active Components from Black Pepper by Supercritical CO2

Abstract:The supercritical carbon dioxide fluid extraction(SFE-CO2) of essential oil and oleoresin from black pepper is presented in this paper.Firstly,low pressure and temperature was adopted for the selective extraction of black pepper essential oils.Then,high pressure and temperature were introduced at the presence of a polar entrainer for the black pepper oleoresin rich in piperine.Moreover,the black pepper essential oil obtained by supercritical CO2 extraction was purified by molecular distillation into the colorless and tasteless product,which could be used in the daily chemical industry.Aroma components were also analyzed by GC-MS.The experimental results showed that the optimum conditions of the supercritical CO2 extraction of black pepper essential oil were 10 MPa of pressure,35 ℃ of temperature and 1.5 h of time.The yield was 3.01%.The optimum conditions of oleoresin extraction were m(raw material):m(volume fraction 95% ethanol)=2:1,30 MPa of pressure,50 ℃ of temperature and 4 h of time.The yield was 7.88% and the piperine content in oleoresin was 65.79%.

Abstract:The aim of this study was to optimize pressure-assisted (PAE) parameters for using response surface methodology (RSM) and compare the chemical composition and characteristics of pepper (Capsicum annum L.) seed oil (PSO) by pressure-assisted, ultrasound-assisted (UAE) and conventional solvent extraction (CSE). The oil extraction efficiency extracted from the optimized extraction parameters (pressure 370 MPa, temperature 50 degrees C, and time 5.7 min) achieved the highest of 83.0%, and PSO by PAE could retain higher level of unsaturated fatty acids (82.36%), gamma-tocopherol (8.04 mg/100 g), characterized with lower acid value (3.89 mg KOH/g), peroxide value (1.47 mmol/kg) and higher iodine value (130.80 gI/100 g), and displayed superior antioxidant capacity. Industrial relevance: This research paper has not yet been discussed. The available data are provided for evaluation and application of PAE in oils extraction industry and PAE could be a more efficient and time-saving technique to extract higher quality for the commercial PSO production.

Abstract:In recent years, the supercritical fluid extractions have a great development and more widespread application in our country. This paper made a summary of the basic principles of the supercritical carbon dioxide extraction, the extraction technology of natural ethereal oil of perfume material by supercritical carbon dioxide and its influence factors, such as graininess of material, extraction pression, temperature, time, and efflux of carbon dioxide. The usage of entrainment reagent and analysis methods of component of ethereal oil was also summarized. A vast range of prospect of the extraction of natural ethereal oil of perfume material by supercritical carbon dioxide was predicted in this paper.

Abstract:Fried pepper oil retains the overall flavor outline of pepper, and its unique rich and spicy flavor is deeply loved by consumers. In order to study the effect of different production areas of pepper on the flavor compounds of fried pepper oil, taking dried pepper from seven different production areas as raw materials, and taking rapeseed oil as a carrier oil as well as a constant frying temperature to prepare pepper oil, the present study analyzed the volatile flavor components of pepper oil qualitatively and quantitatively by employing headspace solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The principal component analysis (PCA) method was used to construct the correlation analysis model of volatile flavor substances among different samples of pepper oil. Applying the hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA), the main volatile substances causing the flavor differences of pepper oil from different production areas were identified. The results showed that a total of 81 chemical components were identified, including 15 alcohols, 10 aldehydes, 5 ketones, 34 hydrocarbons, 11 esters, 6 acids, and others. Terpinen-4-ol, linalool, 2,4-decadienal, trans-2-heptenal, sabinene, linalyl acetate, bornyl acetate, myrcene, 1-caryophyllene, trans-α-ocimene, and limonene were selected as the main substances leading to the flavor differences among the pepper oil samples. These 11 chemical components played a decisive role in the construction of the overall aroma of the pepper oil. Using a descriptive sensory analysis, it was concluded that pepper oil from different production areas holds different aroma intensities. Compared with the other six samples, S4 Hanyuan Pepper Oil (HYPO) shows a relatively strong trend toward a spicy fragrance, fresh grassy fragrance, floral and fruity fragrance, fresh sweet fragrance, and fatty aroma.

Abstract:Numerical simulation and experimental study on the extraction of oil from red pepper seed using supercritical CO2 was performed in this study. Some main influence factors were investigated, including the influence of operation pressure and temperature on extraction yield Xe(%). A model equation was established based on mass transfer process, and the model equation was validated with the experimental data. The maximal and minimal relative errors between experimental data and numerical simulation value were 1.29% and 0.28% respectively. The results of 3-D simulations were obtained by associating extraction yield Xe(%) with operation temperature and pressure. As shown in the figures, it is obvious that there is an excellent agreement between the correlations results and the experimental data. Consequently, the optimum pressure and temperature were determined to be 20MPa and 318K respectively.

Optimization and GC-MS Analysis of Extracting Pepper Leaves Essential Oil by Ultrasonic Assisted Distillation Based on Deep Eutectic Solvents

Abstract:The Optimization of the essential oil extracted from pepper leaves by deep eutectic solvents was carried out using one-factor-at-a-time method and response surface methodology. Using a Box-Behnken design, a mathematical model was established to investigate the effects of solvent-solid ratio, ultrasonic power and extraction time on the yield of essential oil, respectively. The results showed that the most suitable deep eutectic solvent was choline chloride/urea. The optimum conditions of pepper leaves essential oil were as follows: The solvent-solid ratio was 14: 1 mL/g, the ultrasonic power was 300W，the extraction time was 53 min. Under the optimal conditions, the yield of essential oi1 of pepper leaves was 1.380%±0.018 %，which was better than steam distillation and ultrasonic-assisted steam distillation. The yield of pepper essential oil increased by 14.33% and 5.18%, respectively. A total of 34 compounds were identified by GC-MS. The main components of essential oil wereδ-elemene (19.75%),α-cubebene (9.17%，caryophyllene (8.97%)，α-gurjunene (6.12%),β-eiemene (5.13 %). The method for extracting pepper leaves essential oi1 by using choline chloride-urea as deep eutectic solvent is feasible.

Abstract:The pepper powder was extracted by hot reflux with 6 kinds of organic solvents. The resultsindicated that methyl alcohol and ethanol extracts of pepper showed the strongest antioxidant effect.When ethanol is regarded as extraction solvent, the best process conditions are the following: 80% ofethanol density(V/V), 70 degrees Centigrade of extraction temperature, 24 hours of extraction time, andthe amount of ethanol consumption as 30 times of the pepper powder.

Abstract:Pepper is an important condiment, and its aroma affects its commercial value. In this study, transcriptome sequencing and combined headspace solid-phase microextraction and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS) were used to analyze the differentially expressed genes and volatile organic compounds in spicy and non-spicy pepper fruits. Compared with non-spicy fruits, there were 27 up-regulated volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and 3353 up-regulated genes (Up-DEGs) in spicy fruits. The results of KEGG enrichment analysis of the Up-DEGs combined with differential VOCs analysis showed that fatty acid biosynthesis and terpenoid biosynthesis may be the main metabolic pathways for aroma differences between non-spicy and spicy pepper fruits. The expression levels of the fatty acid biosynthesis-related genes FAD, LOX1, LOX5, HPL, and ADH and the key terpene synthesis gene TPS in spicy pepper fruits were significantly higher than those in non-spicy pepper fruits. The differential expression of these genes may be the reason for the different aroma. The results can provide reference for the development and utilization of high-aroma pepper germplasm resources and the breeding of new varieties.

Abstract:Mechanical peeling is more efficient and environmentally friendly compared to manual peeling. However, comparative studies on the quality of mechanically peeled pepper and manually peeled pepper are limited. This study utilized GC-MS to investigate the effects of immersion, steaming, and peeling machinery speed on the volatile composition of white pepper. A total of thirteen monoterpenes and seven sesquiterpenes were detected, with 3-carene, D-limonene, and sabinene being the most abundant monoterpenoids and β-caryophyllene, δ-elemene, and α-copaene being the most abundant sesquiterpenes. The total volatiles increased with longer steaming times and higher peeling machinery speeds. Compared to manual peeling or steaming followed by mechanical peeling, the volatile content of pepper was higher when using mechanical peeling alone. Additionally, relative odor activity values showed that 3-carene and D-limonene were the main contributors to flavor, with 3-carene, β-caryophyllene, and α-copaene being key volatiles responsible for flavor distinctions. This research aims to provide theoretical support for developing a superior and environmentally friendly mechanical method to replace manual labor.
