Abstract:In this paper, we investigate positive solutions of the degenerate parabolic equation not in divergence form: ut=upΔu+auq−bur, subject to the null Dirichlet boundary condition. We at first discuss the existence and nonexistence of global solutions to the problem, and then study the large time behavior for the global solutions. When the positive source dominates the model, we prove that the global solutions uniformly tend to the positive steady state of the problem as t→∞. In particular, we establish the uniform asymptotic profiles for the decay solutions when the problem is governed by the nonlinear diffusion or absorption.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a plate equation with nonlinear damping and logarithmic source term. By the contraction mapping principle, we establish the local existence. The global existence and decay estimate of the solution at subcritical initial energy are obtained. We also prove that the solution with negative initial energy blows up in finite time under suitable conditions. Moreover, we also give the blow-up in finite time of solution at the arbitrarily high initial energy for linear damping (i.e. <inline-formula><tex-math id="M1">$ m = 2 $</tex-math></inline-formula>).

Abstract:This paper is devoted to the lifespan of solutions to a damped plate equation with logarithmic nonlinearity \begin{document}$ u_{tt}+\Delta^2u-\Delta u-\Delta u_t+u_t = |u|^{p-2}u\ln|u|. $\end{document} Finite time blow-up criteria for solutions at both lower and high initial energy levels are established and an upper bound for the blow-up time is given for each case. Moreover, by constructing a new auxiliary functional and making full use of the strong damping term, a lower bound for the blow-up time is also derived.

Abstract:We study the asymptotic behavior of the nonlinear MGT plate equation in the unbounded domain. By using semigroup theory, we first establish the well-posedness result for the Cauchy problem related to the linear MGT plate equation. By using the energy method in the Fourier space, we then prove the optimal decay estimate results for the non-critical case, in which the optimality is analyzed by considering the asymptotic expansion of the eigenvalues. By using the contraction mapping, we also show the local existence for the Cauchy problem of the nonlinear plate in appropriate function spaces, based on which we prove a global existence result for small data by using a priori energy estimates. Finally, based on the decay estimation of linear problems, the decay results of nonlinear problems are obtained.

Abstract:We consider a nonlinear plate equation with thermal memory effects due to non-Fourier heat flux laws. First we prove the existence and uniqueness of global solutions as well as the existence of a global attractor. Then we use a suitable Łojasiewicz–Simon type inequality to show the convergence of global solutions to single steady states as time goes to infinity under the assumption that the nonlinear term f is real analytic. Moreover, we provide an estimate on the convergence rate.

Abstract:The article is devoted to the mathematical analysis of a fluid–structure interaction system where the fluid is compressible and heat conducting and where the structure is deformable and located on a part of the boundary of the fluid domain. The fluid motion is modeled by the compressible Navier–Stokes–Fourier system and the structure displacement is described by a structurally damped plate equation. Our main results are the existence of strong solutions in an <math>Lp−Lq</math> setting for small time or for small data. Through a change of variables and a fixed point argument, the proof of the main results is mainly based on the maximal regularity property of the corresponding linear systems. For small time existence, this property is obtained by decoupling the linear system into several standard linear systems whereas for global existence and for small data, the maximal regularity property is proved by showing that the corresponding linear coupled fluid–structure operator is <math>R</math>-sectorial.

Abstract:We are concerned with dynamical behaviors of solutions to nonlinear damped wave equations with nonlinear dampings and force terms, and subject to Wentzell boundary conditions which can be used to describe, for instance, the boundary behavior of a vibrating elastic body (resp. membrane) coated (resp. edged) with a thin layer (resp. coil) of high rigidity. Here the internal dampings are only assumed to be locally distributed and, especially, may disappear gradually over time. We find a new and effective method to overcome all the difficulties caused by the interplay of vanishing localized dampings, Wentzell boundary conditions, as well as nonlinear force terms. Ideal uniform decay rates of solution energies are obtained in terms of the exponents associated with the time-varying damping. Our result shows that the dynamical behavior of solutions is clearly stable without any bifurcation and chaos. To illustrate our theoretical results, we provide some numerical simulations.

Abstract:We study an initial-boundary-value problem for a quasilinear thermoelastic plate of Kirchhoff \& Love-type with parabolic heat conduction due to Fourier, mechanically simply supported and held at the reference temperature on the boundary. For this problem, we show the short-time existence and uniqueness of classical solutions under appropriate regularity and compatibility assumptions on the data. Further, we use barrier techniques to prove the global existence and exponential stability of solutions under a smallness condition on the initial data. It is the first result of this kind established for a quasilinear non-parabolic thermoelastic Kirchhoff & Love plate in multiple dimensions.

Abstract:In this paper we consider a transmission problem for a system of a thermoelastic plate with (or without) rotational inertia term coupled with a membrane with different variants of damping for the plate and/or the membrane. We prove well-posedness of the problem and higher regularity of the solution and study the asymptotic behaviour of the solution, depending on the damping and on the presence of the rotational term.

Abstract:It is proven that a class of the generalized Riemann problem for quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws with the uniform damping term admits a unique global piecewise C1 solution u=u(t,x) containing only n shock waves with small amplitude on t⩾0 and this solution possesses a global structure similar to that of the similarity solution u=U(xt) of the corresponding homogeneous Riemann problem. As an application of our result, we prove the existence of global shock solutions, piecewise continuous and piecewise smooth solution with shock discontinuities, of the flow equations of a model class of fluids with viscosity induced by fading memory with a single jump initial data. We also give an example to show that the uniform damping mechanism is not strong enough to prevent the formation of shock waves.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the initial boundary value problem for viscoelastic Kirchhoff-like plate equations with rotational inertia, memory, p-Laplacian restoring force, weak damping, strong damping, and nonlinear source terms. We establish the local existence and uniqueness of the solution by linearization and the contraction mapping principle. Then, we obtain the global existence of solutions with subcritical and critical initial energy by applying potential well theory. Then, we prove the asymptotic behavior of the global solution with positive initial energy strictly below the depth of the potential well. Finally, we conduct a comprehensive study on the finite time blow-up of solutions with negative initial energy, null initial energy, and positive initial energy strictly below the depth of the potential well and arbitrary positive initial energy, respectively.

Abstract:In this work we study the existence and uniqueness of solutions and decay rates to the total energy and the L2-norm of solution for a semilinear second order evolution equation with fractional damping term and under effects of a generalized rotational inertia term in the case of plate equation. This system also includes equations of Boussinesq type that model hydrodynamic problems. We show decay rates depend- ing on the fractional powers of the operators and using an asymptotic expansion of the solution to the linear problem, we prove for some cases depending on the exponents of the operators, the optimality of the decay rates.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to study the existence and extinction of weak solutions of the initial and boundary value problem for ut=div((|u|σ(x,t)+d0)|∇u|p(x,t)−2∇u)+f(x,t,u). First, the authors apply the method of parabolic regularization and Galerkin’s method to prove the existence of solutions to the problem mentioned and then obtain the comparison principle by arguing by contradiction. Furthermore, the authors prove that the solution vanishes in finite time and approaches 0 in L2(Ω) norm as t→∞.

Abstract:We are concerned with asymptotic stability of energy for plate equations with vanishing viscoelastic dampings and complementary frictional dampings, where the internal viscoelastic dampings are assumed to be time-dependent. In terms of the relaxation function θ (t) and the coefficient γ (t) of viscoelastic term, we obtain the decay rates for the plate equations’ energies. Since we do not need the viscoelastic damping coefficient to be bigger than a fixed positive number, which is required in previous investigations of the asymptotic stability of the plate equations’ energies, our decay theorems extend and improve essentially the existing decay results for the plate equations in both viscoelastic damping case and mixed-type damping case.

Abstract:We show global well-posedness and exponential stability of equilibria for a general class of nonlinear dissipative bulk-interface systems. They correspond to thermodynamically consistent gradient structure models of bulk-interface interaction. The setting includes nonlinear slow and fast diffusion in the bulk and nonlinear coupled diffusion on the interface. Additional driving mechanisms can be included and non-smooth geometries and coefficients are admissible, to some extent. An important application are volume-surface reaction-diffusion systems with nonlinear coupled diffusion.
