Abstract:A new steroidal glycoside (1), (25R)-14α, 17α-hydroxyspirost-5-en-3β-yl 3-O-α-L-rhamnpyranosyl-(1 → 2)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-β-D-glucopyranoside, together with three known steroidal glycosides, (25R)-3β-hydroxyspirost-5-en-1β-yl-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-α-L-arabinopyranoside (2), Cixi-ophiopogon B (3) and Cixi-ophiopogon A (4), were obtained from the tuberous roots of Ophiopogon japonicus (Liliaceae). Compound 2 was isolated from the Ophiopogon genus for the first time. Their structures were identified on the basis of extensive mass and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic analysis.

Abstract:A new polyoxygenated pregnane genin and a new diphenylmethane, along with five known pregnane derivatives, were isolated from the root barks of Periploca sepium. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated as (3 beta,14 beta)-3,14-dihydroxy-21-methoxypregn-5-en-20-one (1) and 2-hydroxy-5-(2hvdroxv-4-methoxybenzyl)-4-methoxybenzaldehyde (2) on the basis of spectroscopic methods, especiallv 2D-NMR and MS analyses. The known compounds were identified by comparing their physical and spectroscopic data with those reported in the literature.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To investigate the steroids from the roots of Periploca sepium.METHODS Repeated Silica Gel, Sephadex LH-20 and ODS column chromatographic methods were used to isolate the chemical constituents.Modern NMR techniques were employed for their structural elucidation.RESULTS Seven compounds were isolated and identified as periplocogenin(1),21-O-methyl-△5-pregnene-3β,14β,17β,21-tetraol-20-one(2),△5-pregnene-3β,16α,20(S)-triol 20-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)-β-D-digitalopy ranoside(3),△5-pregnene-3β,20(S)-diol 20-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranoside(4),△5-pregnene-3β,20(S)-diol 20-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)-β-D-digitalopyranoside(5),△5-pregnene-3β,20(S)-diol 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-20-O-β-D-gluco pyranosyl-(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranoside(6),△5-pregnene-3β,16β,20(R)-triol 20-O-β-D-gluco pyranosyl-(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)-β-D-digitalopyranoside(7).CONCLUSION Compound 1 and 3 were new natural products, compound 4 was isolated from this plant for the first time,compound 6 was obtained for the first time from the genus Periploca.

Abstract:A preliminary chemical investigation on 70% MeOH extract of the roots of Asparagus cochinchinensis resulted in the isolation of nine steroids. These isolates comprised of four new C-21 (1-4) and one new pregnane (5) glycosides, and four known C-27 (6-9) spirostanol steroids. Their structures were identified via analysis of the spectroscopic data and the results of hydrolytic cleavage. The cytotoxic activities of the compounds were tested toward the human tumor cell line Hela (cervical cancer), and compounds 7 and 8 displayed moderate activity with IC50 values of 35.5 and 39.6 mu M, respectively.

Abstract:A new pregnane steroid, 1, and three known analogues 2-4, have been isolated from a gorgonian Carijoa sp. collected from the South China Sea. The planar structure and relative configuration of 1 were elucidated from comprehensive spectroscopic data. Its absolute configuration was determined by application of the modified Mosher method. Compounds 1, 3 and 4 exhibited cytotoxicity against the human hepatoma cell line Bel-7402, with IC50 values of 9.33, 11.02 and 18.68 mu M, respectively. Additionally, compound 1 exhibited promising antibacterial activity against Pseudomona puido, with a MIC value of 31 nM, which is approximately 5-fold more potent than ciprofloxacin (MIC = 156 nM).

Abstract:To search for pharmacologically active constituents of folk medicine, a new pregnane, 2 alpha,3 alpha,15 beta-trihydroxy-20(S)-tigloyl-pregnane (compound 1), and nine known compounds, geranylgeraniol (compound 2), beta-daucosterol (compound 3), 6-hydroxystigmast-4-en-3-one (compound 4), sitoindoside I (compound 5), sitoindoside II (compound 6), beta-sitosterol (compound 7), kaempferol (compound 8), quercetin (compound 9), and rutin (compound 10), were isolated from the ethanol extract of whole plants of Munronia delavayi Franch using chromatographic methods. The structures of compounds 1-10 were elucidated on the basis of spectral data.

Abstract:Seven pregnane steroids were isolated from the petroleum ether extracts of a South China Sea gorgonian Menella sp.collected in the Sanya Bay.By means of spectroscopic analysis and comparison with literatures,their structures were identi-fied as 3α-hydroxy-5β-pregnan-20-one(1),3β-hydroxy-5α-pregnan-20-one(2),3β-hydroxy-pregnan-5-en-20-one(3),5β-pregnan-3,20-dione(4),5α-pregnan-3,20-dione(5),pregnan-4-en-3,20-dione(6),and pregnan-1,4-dien-3,20-dione(7),respectively.All compounds except compound 2 were isolated from this genus for the first time,and the NMR data of com-pound 7 was reported for the first time.

Abstract:Two new steroids, 3α,17α,19,20-tetrahydroxy-4α-methylpregn-8-ene (1) and 3α,12α,17α,20-tetrahydroxy-4α-methylpregn-8-ene (2) and three new sesquiterpenoids, 12-hydroxy-α-cadinol (3), 3α,12-dihydroxy-δ-cadinol (4), and 3α,6α-dihydroxyspiroax-4-ene (5), have been isolated from cultures of the fungus Phellinus igniarius. Their structures were characterized based on extensive spectroscopic data. In preliminary in vitro assays, compounds 3 and 4 exhibited the vascular-activities against phenylephrine-induced vasoconstriction with the relaxing rates of 11.0 % and 7.0 % at 3 × 10−4 M, respectively.

Abstract:A new rearranged pentanortriterpenoid (trijugin C) and a new pregnane (3β,4α-dihydroxypregnan-16-one) were isolated from the EtOH extract of Trichilia connaroides (Meliaceae). Trijugin C has been shown to be a derivative of methyl angolensate with a novel carbon skeleton. The structures were elucidated on the basis of spectral analysis including 1H-1H COSY, HMQC, HMBC, and NOESY experiments. The possible biogenetic pathway of trijugin C is discussed.Key words: Trichilia connaroides, Meliaceae, pentanortriterpenoid, trijugin C, pregnane.

Abstract:A new coprostanol glycoside, 26-trihydroxy-16, 22-dioxo-3 beta-[(alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl)oxy]-5 beta-cholestan-1 beta-yl O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 -> 2)-beta-D-fucopyranoside (1) (25S)-5 beta-spirostan-1 beta,2 beta,3 beta, 4 beta,5 beta, 6 beta-hexol (2), a new C-22 steroidal lactone saponin, (20 R)-16 beta-trihydroxy-3 beta-[(alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl)oxy]-1 beta-[(O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 -> 2)-beta-D-xylopyranosyl)oxy]-5 beta-pregnane-20-oic acid gamma-lactone (3) along with two known pregnane glycosides (4 and 5) were obtained from the roots of Reineckia carnea. Their structures were determined by 1 D, 2 D NMR, IR and MS data analysis. In addition, the cytotoxic activities in HT-29, HCT116, H1299 and A549 tumor cells of the isolated compounds (1 - 5) were determined by the MTT method. The results showed that only compound 1 exhibited weak effect against these cells with IC50 values ranging from 63.36 mu M to 105.01 mu M. [GRAPHICS] .

Abstract:Abstract Two new pregnane alkaloids, (20S)−20α-cinnamoylamino-3β-dimethylamino-5-en-pregnane (1) and (20S)−20α-cinnamoylamino-3β-dimethylamino-pregnane (2), and four known alkaloids (+)-(20S)−20-(dimethylamino)−3-(3′R-isopropyl)-lactam-5α-pregn-2-en-4-one (3), axillaridine A (4), pachysamine M (5) and 20α-dimethylamino-16β-hydroxy-3β-senecioylamino-pregn-5-ene (6) were obtained from the whole herb of Pachysandra terminalis Sieb. et Zucc. Their structures were determined by various spectral techniques and computed electronic circular dichroism (ECD) data. Compounds 1-4 were tested for cytotoxicity against three human tumor cell lines and a human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) line. Compound 4 exhibited moderate cytotoxicity against MCF-7, U251 and A549 cells with IC50 values of 15.01 ± 0.47 μM, 20.13 ± 1.34 μM and 20.04 ± 1.16 μM, respectively; compounds 1-3 showed weak cytotoxic activity against three tumor cells. Abstract:New drimane-type sesquiterpene cryptoporol A (1), cryptoporic acid derivative 6′-cryptoporic acid E methyl ester (2), and pseudouridine derivative cryptoporine A (3), as well as a known ergosterol 5α,8α-epidioxy-22E-ergosta-6,22-dien-3β-ol (4), were isolated from a 90 % alcohol extract of the fruiting bodies of Cryptoporus volvatus. The structures of these compounds were established by spectroscopic analysis and circular dichroism. 5α,8α-epidioxy-22E-ergosta-6,22-dien-3β-ol (4) exhibited antiviral activity against porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus, and all compounds showed weak antioxidant activities.

Abstract:A new C21 steroidal compound (1), along with 12 known compounds (2–13) were isolated from the whole herb of Pachysandra terminalis Sieb. et Zucc. Their structures were determined by extensive analysis using various spectroscopic techniques. Notably, compound 6 was reported for the first time from P. terminalis, and compounds 3–5, 7 and 9 were isolated from the family Buxaceae for the first time.
