Synthesis and Characterization of a Novel Ionic Liquid of (ferrocenylmethyl) Trimethyl Quaternary Ammonium Salt

Abstract:Iodinated(ferrocenylmethyl)trimethyl quaternary ammonium salt was synthesized by using ferrocene and dimethylamine as the starting materials.Resultant iodinated(ferrocenylmethyl)trimethyl quaternary ammonium salt was then allowed to take part in metathetical reaction,yielding acetic acetate(ferrocenylmethyl)trimethyl quaternary ammonium salt as an ionic liquid.The structure of the ionic liquid was characterized,and its melting point and solubility were measured.It has been found that as-synthesized ionic liquid has a melting point of below 100 ℃,belonging to a novel room temperature ionic liquid.
