Abstract:The objective of the work is to improve the control performance of central cooling system and reduce the dynamic deviation of the outlet temperature of fresh cooling water, which is caused by inertia of cooling water system when using traditional PID control model. Hydraulic model, steady heat transfer model and thermodynamic model of the central cooling system are presented in this paper based on fluid mechanics and heat transfer theory. Operating principle and corresponding control method is introduced to a 57 000 ton bulk carrier’s central cooling system, and a cascade control model is established by using classical control theory. The performance of PID control scheme and that of the cascade control scheme is compared with the help of software Matlab. Simulation results show that the cascade control scheme possesses better control performance and has a good application prospect in the control design of central cooling system.

Abstract:With the broad application of advance technology in ship power system, and its differences from the terrestrial power system, it is necessary to build up the model and simulation of ship power system. In this paper, a mathematical model of a complete ship electric propulsion system, including components as generators, excitation and governor system, variable speed thruster drives based on Direct Torque Control, is presented. And some static simulations such as power factor of power plant and efficiency of generators, and dynamic simulations such as dynamic response of voltage and frequency of generator and speed and torque of propulsion motor, as well as harmonic distribution of ship power system are shown clearly through simulation system in Matlab. The validity of mathematical model is testified through a real system.

Abstract:Based on the maximal power tracking control theory for marine current energy power system, this paper has designed a small power scale marine current energy conversion system. The system adopts the structure that is rectifier-chopper-inverter. The load controller regulates the DC/DC convertor using PWM signal. Then the load characteristic of the system will be changed, and consequently the speed of the turbine track optimal speed, as well as the power captured by the turbine. Using the feedback linearization model, the simulation model is constructed and simulated. The simulation results reveal that the dynamic characteristic of the system has good performance under the control environment of the load controller. The power captured by the turbine track the maximal power by changing the load of the system.

Abstract:Three-shaft gas turbine was applied to marine electric propulsion system. The dynamic performance and control strategy of the three-shaft marine electric propulsion gas turbine arrested investigator’s attention, because they are very different from that of single-shaft gas turbine due to the complicated rotor structure. In this study, a model of nonlinear differential equation set is built to calculate the dynamic performance of three-shaft gas turbine and a simulation model of three-shaft marine electric propulsion gas turbine is constructed using the platform of MATLAB/SIMULINK. An adaptive software is developed for three-shaft gas turbine simulation. The new matching problems and changing rules among parameters are investigated in the case of load rejection of marine electric propulsion system. Multi-closed loop control system, instead of traditional control system, is introduced in order to improve the system quality and safety.

Abstract:The object of this paper is to build up a dynamic model of the main propulsion system based on direct torque control (DTC) and analyze its power output limits. The key problem of modeling is to find out the relationships among flux, angular frequency, active power and reactive power, and the result model can be used to guide control parameters design and system operation. The testing simulation of a complete diesel-electric propulsion system using the proposed DTC control strategy is carried out on PSCAD. The power limits are also checked up in this demonstration work.

Abstract:Marine electric propulsion system is a complex power chain of ship-engine-propeller composed by inverter, propulsion motor and propeller. Ship power system is an independent power grid, its propulsion motor and propeller are easily affected by complex and variable sea environment and working conditions, which can easily cause shafting vibration or even malfunction and then affecting the power supply system. Its modeling is difficult. Simulation time is long. Torque fluctuations are frequent and so on. To solve these problems, a set of mathematical model of marine electric propulsion system including inverter, permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), propeller and hull is established firstly. Based on the two-closed loop control of field-oriented control (FOC), a third closed-loop control, that is torque closed loop, is added to relieve torque fluctuations and the PI parameters are discussed of the controller. The anti-jamming and dynamic-static performance of the system under sudden changes by additional constant load, random fluctuating load and changing reference speed are analyzed. The experimental results show that the model can simulate the all-electric propulsion system very well. Three-closed loop control reduces the vibration of the motor shaft and makes the propulsion system to follow the reference speed quickly and keep the torque stable than the two-closed loop control when the propeller torque and the reference speed is changing.

Abstract:The closed cycle power system based on Li/SF6 heat pipe reactor is investigated for the purpose of designing high energy density power system of unmanned underwater vehicle(UUV). The moving boundary models of an evapo-rator and a condenser are established based on mass conservation and energy conservation equations with dividing their heat exchangers into different areas. The steady state model of a turbine and the dynamic model of a liquid trap are es-tablished. And the dynamic model of the whole system is built. With step change of the inlet water flow rate of the evaporator, the dynamic characteristics of the key components of the system are obtained by simulation. The results show that with the increase in the inlet water flow rate, the pressure in the tube rises up, the temperature at evaporator outlet decreases, the turbine power output gets higher, and the phase zone lengths of the evaporator and condenser change. When the flow rate decreases, the above behaviors change on the contrary. These models may be applicable to design of UUV power system and its control strategy.

Abstract:An electrical propulsion system consisting of a 12-phase synchronous motor,a voltage source type inverter,a propeller and the ship was modeled using MatlabSimulink blocks to optimize the integrated power system characteristics and reduce the research risks and costs.The 12-phase synchronous motor driven by a variable-voltage variable-frequency(VVVF) power supply drives the propeller and the ship.The electrical drive system performance was improved using a model of the direct-axis magnetizing flux linkage space-phasor to develop a vector control scheme for the 12-phase synchronous motor.The simulations show that the torque and the direct-axis magnetizing flux linkage can be controlled separately,which is a requirement of the dynamic integrated power system for vector control scheme of the 12-phase synchronous motor.

Abstract:The varying work condition is the most important problem to the underwater thermal-dynamics propulsion system which controlled by flux regulator.Based on the requirements to regulator function of overall system,the velocity control scheme was put forward,the actualization of transfer function was analyzed.The influence of main characteristic parameters on the system performance was evaluated and the system optimization project was obtained.The results of simulation and experiment show the feasible for design and efficient for suggested optimization.

Abstract:The paper presents a multiphysics modelling approach to design an integrated electric propulsion system for ship dynamic positioning purposes. The simulation platform integrates the model of the shipboard power plant, the hydrodynamic and environmental forces and the dynamic positioning controller. The shipboard power system has been modelled considering the electro-mechanical behaviour, i.e. the power-frequency dynamic, so that the platform can run in real time and be linked with the control hardware. The simulation platform has been tested through a detailed simulation campaign by using as a study case a Platform Supply Vessel where its behaviour in harsh conditions has been validated. Moreover, a control hardware-in-the-loop configuration has been realized, where the controller logic has been implemented in a real PCL. Finally, a comparison between the two simulation approaches is shown and the results are discussed.

Abstract:in recent years, shipboard dc power system gains more and more attention of the researchers because of its high efficiency, reduced emission, ease of access clean energy, etc. However, due to the more complexity compared to the ac power system, dc power system need more effective tools to complete the analysis, design and optimization tasks, while modeling and simulation is the basis of these tools. Firstly, the paper established the mathematical model of each module in ship power system and then found a simulation system using these models based on MATLAB/Simulink environment. Through the simulation, it is proved the system is an effective tool for research and design of dc power system on ship.

Abstract:In order to investigate the affect of propeller loads on transient stability of ship power systems, this paper focuses on the model and the problems of integrated coordinate control of ship multi-machine power systems with propeller loads. A control algorithm is developed based on Hamilton energy theory which produces a coordinate control law involved in excitation and speed-adjusting. On the basis of sufficient analysis of the nonlinear coupling relations between ship diesel engine generator and propeller model. A stabilizing integrated controller is proposed by constructing Hamilton energy function. Simulations illustrate that under the conditions of abruptly added propellerthe proposed controller can effectively restrict the influence of the loads, which shows the robustness of the proposed controller.
Research and Simulation of Two Way Reversible Power Generation Hybrid Electric Ship Propulsion System

Abstract:Because of low efficiency during the dual fuel green power ship running at low speed in Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, a new hybrid electric propulsion system for ships with two way reversible electric propulsion is presented. This system can effectively reduce fuel consumption rate and improve the replacement rate of double fuel. The power generation controller and electric propulsion controller which based on DTC Technology are designed. At last, the Simulink simulation system is used to obtain the wave forms of the system starting, stabilization, acceleration and deceleration. The feasibility of the control method is verified.

Abstract:This article introduces the composition and 12 operating conditions of a four-engine two-propeller hybrid power system. Through the combination of gearbox clutch and disconnection, the propulsion system has four single-engine operation modes, two double-engine parallel operation modes, and six PTI operation modes. Because the propulsion system has a variety of operating conditions, each operating condition has a form of energy transfer. As a result, its energy management and control are more complicated. To study the energy management and control strategy of a diesel- electric hybrid propulsion system, this work mainly studies the simulation model and sub-models of a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system. In this study, MATLAB/ SIMULINK software is used to build the diesel engine model, motor model, and ship engine system mathematical model. The test and analysis were carried out on the test bench of the diesel-electric hybrid power system. By comparing the theoretical value of the SIMULINK simulation model with the test value of the test bench system, the correctness of each sub-model modeling method is verified. On the one hand, research on the text lays a theoretical foundation for the subsequent implementation of the conventional energy management and control strategy based on state identification on the unified management and distribution of the diesel-electric hybrid power system. At the same time, energy management of the diesel-electric hybrid system is also carried out. Optimization research provides theoretical guidance.

Abstract:It's a tendency that electrical propulsion system would substitute for diesel engine system on ship. The thesis introduces a simulated system which can simulate ship propulsion motor and screw propeller simultaneously. Firstly, the configuration of the system and its control strategy are presented. Secondly, the design method of simulated propulsion motor is proposed and an actual simulated motor has been designed, based on the method. Thirdly, two kinds of models to calculate the load of screw propeller are introduced. Fourthly, the hardware and software of the system are designed. Finally, the simulation by PSIM and the experiment by the simulated prototype are done. The results show that the design method of the motor and the control strategy of system are correct.

Abstract:This study presents a Simulink model and the simulation of a central water cooling system and the main seawater pump motor of a 59,990 DWT bulk carrier, based on a direct torque control strategy to control the frequency of the ship's water cooling pump motors. Simulation curves of the water cooling system under different sailing conditions were simulated based on 100% of rated power, 80% of common power, and the seawater temperature of the ship's main engine. The simulation of the current, speed, and torque of the pump motor under direct torque control verified that the ship's water cooling pump motor could save approximately 22.70%, 36.76%, and 52.70% of electrical energy, respectively, throughout the year with this inverted control solution.

Abstract:Rotating propellers and moving rudders are necessary for the simulation of free running ship with the purpose of resolving detailed flow interaction. In the present work, CFD method is used to numerically investigate self-propulsion behavior for a twin-screw fully appended ship. The simulation conditions are following the experiment performed at IIHR. The benchmark ship model ONR Tumblehome is used for all the numerical computations. Overset grids are used to fully discretize the ship hull, twin propellers and rudders. Selfpropulsion simulation is carried out using a PI controller to achieve target ship speed of Fr=0.20 in calm water and the ship model is free to trim and sinkage. All the numerical calculations are carried out by the in-house CFD solver naoeFOAM-SJTU. Unlike most previous studies based on RANS method, the present self-propulsion simulations adopt the Delayed Detached-Eddy-Simulation (DDES) approach to resolve the complex flow around ship hull, propeller and rudder. The main parameters of the self-propulsion as well as flow visualizations are presented. The predicted results are compared with previous RANS data and the available experimental data. The comparison with the experiment is satisfactory and the flow field shows that the present DDESoverset method can give more flow details for the selfpropulsion condition.
Dynamic characteristics analysis of marine condenser based on Modelica

Abstract:In order to realize the dynamic characteristic analysis of condenser, adopts modular modeling method, uses Modelica unified physical modeling language and Mworks simulation platform, and develops the model base of thermal system and establishes the condenser simulation model according to the working principle and energy and mass conservation equation of condensate and water supply system. By using the model, the dynamic characteristics of the condenser are analyzed under the condition of the turbine exhaust volume and the step change of circulating cooling water flow rate. The results show that the variation of the internal parameters of the condenser is consistent with the actual operation, which can provide reference for the optimization of the marine power system.
A Dual-driven Intelligent Combination Control of Heat Pipe Space Cooling System

Abstract:Effective thermal control systems are essential for reliable operation of spacecraft. A dual-driven intelligent combination control strategy is proposed to improve the temperate control and heat flux tracking effects. Both temperature regulation and heat flux tracking errors are employed to generate the final control action; their contributions are adaptively adjusted by a fuzzy fusing policy of control actions. To evaluate the control effects, describe a four-nodal mathematical model for analyzing the dynamic characteristics of the controlled heat pipe space cooling system (HP-SCS) consisting of an aluminum-ammonia heat pipe and a variable-emittance micro-electromechanical-system (MEMS) radiator. This dynamical model calculates the mass flow-rate and condensing pressure of the heat pipe working fluid directly from the systemic nodal temperatures, therefore, it is more suitable for control engineering applications. The closed-loop transient performances of four different control schemes have been numerically investigated. The results conclude that the proposed intelligent combination control scheme not only improves the thermal control effects but also benefits the safe operation of HP-SCS.

Abstract:Regulations concerning the environmental impact and energy efficiency of ships are becoming increasingly stringent. To meet these demanding criteria, new technologies are actively being developed to achieve emission reductions while maintaining efficient fuel energy conversion into propulsion power. However, the propulsion system behaviour in a dynamic environment of the actual sea is highly nonlinear and complex, and a profound understanding of the mutual interactions is still lacking. This paper proposes an integrated approach for comprehensive propulsion system analysis. The key feature of this technique is the utilisation of an intelligent propeller drive controlled by a marine diesel engine simulator (MDES) to drive the free-running model of a ship, providing real-like behaviour of the engine model in real-time in response to actual measured values. The core of the MDES consists of a continuous cycle-mean value dynamic engine model supplemented with a detailed combustion cycle evaluation. The developed fast calculation algorithm of crank-angle resolved thermodynamic equations of the gas state in the engine cylinder enables the complete engine model to be integrated into the real-time environment of a physical model ship. Thus, the propulsion system's performance can be analysed under conditions that closely mimic those of the actual sea environment.
