Etiological analysis of keratoplasty in 260 patients and comparison with overseas data

Abstract:AIM:To summarize the etiological data of patients after keratoplasty and compare it with the similar studies from abroad.METHODS:A total of 260 patients(260 eyes),who received keratoplasty,were selected from Department of Ophthalmology,First Affiliated Hospital,Medical College,Nanchang University between December 2001 and December 2005 for statistics.The clinical data of these patients included sex,age,clinical diagnosis related to corneal transplant,operation method and so on.The patients all knew the fact and agreed to participate the trial.Entity was based on the first diagnosis when discharge.Among the 260 patients,there were simple layers corneal transplant in 125 cases,simple penetrativity corneal transplant in 63 cases,combined amnion coverage in 33 cases,combined limbus corneae stem cell transplantation in 20 cases and combined conjunctival flap covering operation in 19 cases.Sight was evaluated half years after operation,and sight less than 3.7 expressed as blind.RESULTS:Totally 260 patients after corneal transplant were involved in the result analysis,no drop-out.①Of the 260 patients,there were 162 males and 98 females,aged(24±19)years.The leading indications of keratoplasty in order of their decreasing frequency,were keratoleukoma after keratitis in 86(3.08%)cases,especially viral keratitis,corneal scar affection in 78(30%)in 78 cases,followed by corneal ulcer combined with perforation,nibbled corneal ulcer,keratoconus,corneal dermoid,corneal dystrophy,corneal decompensation,corneal staphyloma and corneal carcinoma in situ.Viral keratitis after keratoleukoma was the mostly common,while bullous keratopathy was in the first place at abroad.②Taking off blind rate reached 94% in 260 corneal transplant patients half years after operation.CONCLUSION:Different from the mostly common etiology of corneal transplant is bullous keratopathy in developed countries.Keratoleukoma after keratitis,corneal scar after external injury,corneal ulcer with perforation are in order the commonly reasons of keratoplasty at home.
