Abstract:Objective To investigate incidences of acute mountain sickness(AMS) in mountaineers from plain area rapidly entering stations of various altitudes, so as to provide basis for prevention and treatment of AMS. Methods AMS score, arterial oxygen saturation (SaO_2), heart rate (HR) and parameters of pulmonary ventilation (FVC, FEV1.0, PEF, FEV1.0/FVC, FEF_ 25-75, V_ max-50) were measured in mountaineers rapidly entering stations at 2800 m (n=24), 4140 m (n=16), 5050 m (n=90) respectively. The results of them were compared statistically. Results The incidences of AMS (with AMS score≥4) in mountaineers were 0/24 at 2800 m, 5/16 at 4140 m and 59/90 at 5050 m respectively. As compared with those measured at 2800 m, SaO_2 was lowed significantly, HR was increased significantly, pulmonary ventilation parameters including FVC, FEV1.0 and PEF decreased significantly. Conclusions Rapid entering high altitude (4140 m) from plain area can induce significant increase of AMS incidence and lowering of cardiac pulmonary function.
