Abstract:Based on the thermodynamic classification,the types and applications of first order phase change and second order phase change are expounded. The combination and storage method of polyol in solid-solid phase change are emphatically analyzed, and the research direction is put forward for the second order phase change material which will be applied in the construction field in the future.

Abstract:Next‐generation advanced functional phase change composites are analyzed from the perspectives of myriad phase change materials, promising applications, and mass‐manufactured processing technologies to boost their rapid implementation. As one of the main forms and intermediate carriers of energy, it is impressive to expand the application scope of heat energy, thereby boosting innovations in heat harvesting, conversion, storage, regulation, and utilization associated with the relevant techniques. Phase change materials (PCMs), as a state‐of‐the‐art latent heat storage technique, have garnered increasing interest in heat‐related applications over the past decades, and abundant high‐performance PCMs with excellent shape stability and salient thermal conductivity have been developed. This review focuses on the issues concerning organic PCMs from the perspectives of flexible, multifunctional, and smart phase change composites, along with emerging applications and processing technologies, which are expected to offer possible guidance for the exploration of next‐generation advanced functional phase change composites.

Abstract:Phase change materials (PCMs) store and release energy in the phase change processes. In recent years, PCMs have gained increasing attention due to their excellent properties such as high latent heat storage capacity, appropriate solid-liquid phase change temperature, thermal reliability, and low cost. Herein, classification, characteristics, and evaluation criteria of organic/composite PCMs are systematically illustrated, and some typical preparation methods are introduced, such as in-situ polymerization, interfacial polymerization, spray drying method, porous materials adsorption method, sol-gel method, meltimpregnated and mixing method, electrospinning method, vacuum infiltration and ultrasonic method are introduced. In addition, this review presents some applications of PCMs in the utilization of solar energy, building materials, air conditioning, industrial waste heat recovery, and military camouflage and stealth. Finally, the development tendency of PCMs is discussed.

Abstract:Phase change materials used in thermal energy storage systems are critical for energy utilization. Organic phase change materials have received considerable attention both for applications and research due to their favorable properties, such as large latent heat, low cost, stability, nontoxicity, and corrosion resistance. Because of the inherently low thermal conductivity, there has been a lot of research on various combinations of organic phase change materials with high conductivity materials. Carbon nanotubes, graphene and porous carbon have excellent properties, such as ultrahigh surface area and high thermal conductivity, which have become the preferred materials for thermal properties enhancement. Benefit from the varied dimensional spaces for retaining materials, these carbon-based materials can act as excellent confinement for phase change materials to form shape stabilized, phase change tunable, and thermally enhanced phase change composites. In this paper, a review about recent advancement and challenges for organic phase change materials confined in different types of carbon-based materials is presented, associated with some relevant theories trying to understand the mechanism of heat transfer and phase change in micro/ nano confinement. Some promising applications in thermal management and energy conversion that have great potential for more explorations are also introduced.

Abstract:There are some problems in the applications of phase change materials, such as liquid leakage during solid-liquid phase change, and low thermal conductivity during heat transfer process. Three-dimensional network (3DN) structural materials stood out among many encapsulation materials of composite phase change materials (CPCMs) due to the advantages of three-dimensional interoperability, high porosity and low density. In this paper, the characteristics, advantages and preparation methods of 3DN-CPCMs were reviewed. Then, the influencing factors on the thermal, photothermal conversion and mechanical properties of 3DN-CPCMs were summarized from three aspects: pore structure, surface properties and chemical composition. Finally, the applications of 3DN-CPCMs in various fields were introduced, and their current challenges and future development were also discussed. This paper systematically discussed and analyzed the inherent relationship among the composition, structure, properties and applications of 3DN-CPCMs, which was helpful for deeper understanding of the latest research progress in 3DN-CPCMs and reasonable design and controllable preparation of the high-performance CPCMs.

Abstract:<p>Thermal energy storage and phase change materials (PCMs) have become one of the most important research subjects in recent years. The present paper first introduces the generalities including the properties, advantages and disadvantages of various PCMs. Then the heat transfer modeling and enhancement techniques of Melting and freezing process of PCMs are summarized. Afterwards the application of PCMs in solar, electrical, thermal management, construction, textile, food, and pharmaceutical systems are reviewed. Finally, the challenges and prospects in research and applications of PCMs are presented. Previous studies show that use of PCMs has great potential to reduce energy consumption in various applications leading to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and environmental pollution. Organic PCMs have been widely used and proposed by various researchers due to their better stability and recycling. Using nanoparticles improves the PCMs' performance and the thermal conductivity of PCMs and phase change time depends on the shape of the nanoparticles and increases with nanoparticle concentration. Some challenges such as high cost, the destructive effect of nanoparticles and PCMs on the human body and the environment, and the durability of PCMs after long-term use should be considered in the future researches.</p>

Abstract:As the focus of current research, multicomponent organic composite thermoelectric materials can not only further improve the ZT values, but also have unique advantages of combining the merits of different materials. This review summarizes the concepts, the design criteria, the research progress of multicomponent organic composite thermoelectric materials with three or more ingredients, as well as their applications. Organic thermoelectric materials have the potential to be used as power supplies for wearable electronics, implantable medical devices, and sensors in Internet of Things. The past 10 years has witnessed the rapid development of the research on organic thermoelectric materials, different material systems and optimizing strategies are developed, and the ZT values of some organic materials have approached that of many inorganic thermoelectric material systems in the low‐temperature region. Among different material systems, organic composite materials, especially multicomponent organic composite materials show very promising thermoelectric properties and offer more tunability compared to single component thermoelectric materials. Multicomponent organic composite thermoelectric materials can not only further improve the ZT values, but also have unique advantages of combining the merits of different materials, thus rendering the composites with better processing, mechanical, or other properties on demand. This review summarizes the concepts, the design criteria, the research progress of organic–inorganic and all‐organic multicomponent thermoelectric materials which contain three or more different ingredients, as well as their applications. Furthermore, the challenges and prospects are also analyzed to provide guidelines for the development of multicomponent organic composite thermoelectric materials.

Abstract:<p>Phase change materials (PCMs) can alleviate concerns over energy to some extent by reversibly storing a tremendous amount of renewable and sustainable thermal energy. However, the low thermal conductivity, low electrical conductivity, and weak photoabsorption of pure PCMs hinder their wider applicability and development. To overcome these deficiencies and improve the utilization efficiency of thermal energy, versatile carbon materials have been increasingly considered as supporting materials to construct shape‐stabilized composite PCMs. Despite some carbon‐based composite PCMs reviews regarding thermal conductivity enhancement, a comprehensive review of carbon‐based composite PCMs does not exist. Herein, a systematic overview of recent carbon‐based composite PCMs for thermal storage, transfer, conversion (solar‐to‐thermal, electro‐to‐thermal and magnetic‐to‐thermal), and advanced multifunctional applications, including novel metal organic framework (MOF)‐derived carbon materials are provided. The current challenges and future opportunities are also highlighted. The authors hope this review can provide in‐depth insights and serve as a useful guide for the targeted design of high‐performance carbon‐based composite PCMs.</p>

Abstract:Organic photoconductive composites materials have become one of the hot researches in organic photoconductive materials at present. In this paper, the fabrication and photoconductive properties of several new and high_performance organic photoconductive composites were introduced. Their photoconductive properties and composite mechanism are investigated as well. And their applications in photoconductive devices such as single_layered organic photoreceptors were reviewed briefly. It has been demonstrated that the preparations of composite materials are effective ways to improve photoconductive properties of organic materials. Several effective methods to design and prepare high_performance organic photoconductive composite materials were presented as well.

Abstract:Phase Change Materials (PCMs) are utilized to regulate temperature and store thermal energy in various industries such as infrastructure, electronics, solar power, and more. However, they face several limitations, such as leakage, poor thermal properties, incompatibility, as well as high flammability. Polyethylene (PE) is one of many polymers explored to enhance the desirable properties of PCMs, due to their versatile properties such as high strength, durability, chemical resistance, and low cost. The combination of PCMs and PE can be used to create composite materials, through micro/nano- encapsulation, melt-blending, formation of composites and with proper additives. They create enhanced thermal energy storage properties and in the meantime, benefited from the mechanical properties of the PE. This review provides a concise summary of the recent developments regarding PE-enhanced PCMs and provides insights into possible topics for further investigation. We summarised enhancement methods based on commonly adopted types of PEs, such as encapsulation, melt-blending, hot pressing, extrusion, and 3D printing. We then elaborate on how these PE-PCM composites are effectively utilised for heat management applications and the potential future directions in energy-saving buildings, electronic devices, and energy storage systems.

Abstract:The phase change thermal control method is now widely used in aircraft thermal protection due to its high energy density, constant temperature control, flexible operation, and many other advantages.1–6 However, thermal conductivity of most current phase change materials is low in phase transition process.7–10 This paper will add high thermal nanoparticles to phase change material in order to enhance the thermal conductivity, which, however, has some problems, such as settlement in the macro, reunion at the micro, etc. These problems also influence the improvement of the thermal conductivity. In view of this, a dispersing agent was introduced to these phase change materials, and then the mixed solution was subjected to ultrasonic dispersion. According to the test results, this treatment was effective in maximizing thermal conductivity of the composite phase change materials.

Abstract:Organic phase change materials (PCMs) have received increasing attention for their applications in the fields such as solar energy storage and thermal management. Low thermal conductivity is a major key issue that hinders their practical applications. It has become a research hotspot to investigate the three-dimensional (3D) network method to improve the thermal performance of organic PCMs compared with the traditional blending method. Thermally conductive fillers form a 3D network in the resin matrix, which can enrich the thermal conductive pathway and effectively enhance the thermal conductivity. This paper mainly summarizes the research progress, preparation methods and influencing factors of composite PCMs, focusing on the methods of constructing 3D thermal conductivity network. It is hoped to provide reference or suggestion for the preparation of novel PCMs.

Abstract:In the face of rising global energy demand, phase change materials (PCMs) have become a research hotspot in recent years due to their good thermal energy storage capacity. Single PCMs suffer from defects such as easy leakage when melting, poor thermal conductivity and cycling stability, which are not conducive to heat storage. Therefore, composite PCMs are gaining more and more attention for future applications. Due to the unique physicochemical properties of nanomaterials, it was found that composites of nanomaterials and PCMs can reduce supercooling, suppress phase separation, and improve thermal conductivity and cycle stability. The nano-enhanced PCMs have great applications in the field of phase change energy storage. Although many studies have been reported on nano-enhanced PCMs, there has been no systematic summary of nano-enhanced PCMs so far. This article focuses on improving the thermal performance of PCMs by the types and properties of nano-additives. In this review, the latest research progress on PCMs enhanced by nanomaterials was summarized, ranging from the variety of nanomaterials, the synthesis of nanocomposite PCMs, the effect of nanomaterials on the thermal conductivity of PCMs, and the application of nanocomposite PCMs. This work provides reference value for the future application of nano-enhanced PCMs and is beneficial to expand the applications of nanomaterials in the field of phase change energy storage materials.

Abstract:A new kind of solid phase change material (PCM) prepared in our laboratory has been studied in this paper. In this PCM, polyethylene glycol (PEG) has been taken as functional branches, with which the energy storage and energy release can be proceeded by phase transition between its crystal state and amorphous state. And chlorinated polypropylene (CPP) has been taken as a skeleton, which ensures the solid nature of PCM during the phase transition. The result shows that the new functional material prepared has great value in use and infinite prospect of development potential.

Abstract:Phase change materials (PCMs) for thermal energy storage have been intensively studied because it contributes to energy conservation and emission reduction for sustainable energy use. Recently, the issues of shape stability, thermal conductivity, and mechanical properties have been addressed and effective measures have been proposed to deal with the current dilemmas in various applications of PCMs. In this review, research progress on improved integrated performance and other aspects in microencapsulation of PCMs (MEPCMs) and form-stable PCMs (FSPCMs) is introduced. In addition, diverse applications on PCMs, such as thermal management devices, smart textiles, and intelligent buildings, are also discussed. Finally, the challenges and prospects of PCMs are summarized.
