Abstract:We study the exponential rate of decay of Lebesgue numbers of open covers in topological dynamical systems. We show that topological entropy is bounded by this rate multiplied by dimension. Some corollaries and examples are discussed.

Abstract:Let $ ([0,1]^d,T,\mu) $ be a measure-preserving dynamical system so that the correlations decay exponentially for Hölder continuous functions. Suppose that $ \mu $ is absolutely continuous with a density function $ h\in L^q(\mathcal L^d) $ for some $ q>1 $, where $ \mathcal L^d $ is the $ d $-dimensional Lebesgue measure. Under mild conditions on the underlying dynamical system, we obtain a strong dynamical Borel-Cantelli lemma for recurrence: For any sequence $ \{R_n\} $ of hyperrectangles with sides parallel to the axes and centered at the origin, \[\sum_{n=1}^{\infty}\mathcal L^d(R_n)=\infty\quad\Longrightarrow\quad\lim_{n\to\infty}\frac{\sum_{k=1}^{n}\chi_{R_k+\mathbf{x}}(T^k\mathbf{x})}{\sum_{k=1}^{n}\mathcal L^d(R_k)}=h(\mathbf{x})\quad\text{for $ \mu $-a.e.$\textbf{x}$},\] where $ \textbf{x}\in[0,1]^d $ and $ R_k+\textbf{x} $ is the translation of $ R_k $. Abstract:Abstract We study the relation between escape rates and pressure in general dynamical systems with holes, where pressure is defined to be the difference between entropy and the sum of positive Lyapunov exponents. Central to the discussion is the formulation of a class of invariant measures supported on the survivor set over which we take the supremum to measure the pressure. Upper bounds for escape rates are proved for general diffeomorphisms of manifolds, possibly with singularities, for arbitrary holes and natural initial distributions, including Lebesgue and Sinai–Reulle–Bowen (SRB) measures. Lower bounds do not hold in such a generality, but for systems admitting Markov tower extensions with spectral gaps, we prove the equality of the escape rate with the absolute value of the pressure and the existence of an invariant measure realizing the escape rate, i.e. we prove a full variational principle. As an application of our results, we prove a variational principle for the billiard map associated with a planar Lorentz gas of finite horizon with holes.

Abstract:In the context of expanding maps of the circle with an indifferent fixed point, understanding the joint behavior of dynamics and pairs of moduli of continuity $ (\omega, \Omega) $ may be a useful element for the development of equilibrium theory. Here we identify a particular feature of modulus $ \Omega $ (precisely $ \lim_{x \to 0^+} \sup_{\mathsf d} \Omega\big({\mathsf d} x \big) / \Omega(\mathsf d) = 0 $) as a sufficient condition for the system to exhibit exponential decay of correlations with respect to the unique equilibrium state associated with a potential having $ \omega $ as modulus of continuity. This result is derived from obtaining the spectral gap property for the transfer operator acting on the space of observables with $ \Omega $ as modulus of continuity, a property that, as is well known, also ensures the Central Limit Theorem. Examples of application of our results include the Manneville-Pomeau family

Abstract:We consider a class of stochastic growth models on the integer lattice which includes various interesting examples such as the number of open paths in oriented percolation and the binary contact path process. Under some mild assumptions, we show that the total mass of the process grows exponentially in time whenever it survives. More precisely, we prove that there exists an open path, oriented in time, along which the mass grows exponentially fast.

Abstract:This paper proves sharp bounds on the tails of the Lévy exponent of an operator semistable law on ℝ^d . These bounds are then applied to explicitly compute the Hausdorff and packing dimensions of the range, graph, and other random sets describing the sample paths of the corresponding operator semi-selfsimilar Lévy processes. The proofs are elementary, using only the properties of the Lévy exponent, and certain index formulae.

Abstract:We investigate the relationship between Poincare recurrence and topological entropy of a dynamical system (X, f). For 0 <= alpha <= beta <= infinity, let D(alpha, beta) be the set of x with lower and upper recurrence rates a and P, respectively. Under the assumptions that the system is not minimal and that the map f is positively expansive and satisfies the specification condition, we show that for any open subset empty set not equal U subset of X, D(alpha, beta) boolean AND U has the full topological entropy of X. This extends a result of Feng and Wu [The Hausdorff dimension of recurrence sets in symbolic spaces. Nonlinearity 14 (2001), 81-85] for symbolic spaces.

Abstract:The study of Fourier transforms of probability measures on fractal sets plays an important role in recent research. Faster decay rates are known to yield enhanced results in areas such as metric number theory. This paper focuses on self-similar probability measures defined on self-similar sets. Explicit upper bounds are derived for their decay rates, improving upon prior research. These findings are illustrated with an application to sets of numbers whose digits in their Lüroth representations are restricted to a finite set.

Abstract:To illustrate the more tractable properties of random dynamical systems, we consider a class of 2D maps with strong expansion on large-but non-invariant-subsets of their phase spaces. In the deterministic case, such maps are not precluded from having sinks, as derivative growth on disjoint time intervals can be cancelled when stable and unstable directions are reversed. Our main result is that when randomly perturbed, these maps possess positive Lyapunov exponents commensurate with the amount of expansion in the system. We show also that initial conditions converge exponentially fast to the stationary state, equivalently time correlations decay exponentially fast. These properties depend only on finite-time dynamics, and do not involve parameter selections, which are necessary for deterministic maps with nonuniform derivative growth.

Abstract:For x∈(0,1), let 〈d1(x),d2(x),d3(x),⋯〉 be the Engel series expansion of x. Denote by λ(x) the exponent of convergence of the sequence {dn(x)}, namelyλ(x)=inf⁡{s≥0:∑n≥1dn−s(x)<∞}. It follows from Erdős, Rényi and Szüsz (1958) that λ(x)=0 for Lebesgue almost all x∈(0,1). This paper is concerned with the topological and fractal properties of the level set {x∈(0,1):λ(x)=α} for α∈[0,∞]. For the topological properties, it is proved that each level set is uncountable and dense in (0,1), and the level set is of first category for α∈[0,∞) but residual for α=∞. For the fractal properties, we prove that the Hausdorff dimensions of the level sets are as follows:dimH⁡{x∈(0,1):λ(x)=α}={1−α,0≤α≤1;0,1<α≤∞.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the topological entropy and the Hausdorff dimension of a shrinking target set. We give lower and upper bounds of topological entropy and Hausdorff dimension for dynamical systems with exponential specification property and Lipschitz continuity for maps and homeomorphisms. It generally applies to uniformly hyperbolic systems, expanding systems, and some symbolic dynamics. We show that lower and upper bounds coincide for both topological entropy and Hausdorff dimension when the systems are hyperbolic automorphisms of torus induced from a matrix with only two different eigenvalues, expanding endomorphism of the torus induced from a matrix with only one eigenvalue or some symbolic systems including one or two-sided shifts of finite type and sofic shifts.

Abstract:For any dynamical system T : X -> X of a compact metric space X with g-almost product property and uniform separation property, under the assumptions that the periodic points are dense in X and the periodic measures are dense in the space of invariant measures, we distinguish various periodic-like recurrences and find that they all carry full topological entropy and so do their gap-sets. In particular, this implies that any two kind of periodic-like recurrences are essentially different. Moreover, we coordinate periodic-like recurrences with (ir)regularity and obtain lots of generalized multi-fractal analyses for all continuous observable functions. These results are suitable for all beta-shifts (beta > 1), topological mixing subshifts of finite type, topological mixing expanding maps or topological mixing hyperbolic diffeomorphisms, etc.Roughly speaking, we combine many different "eyes" (i.e., observable functions and periodic-like recurrences) to observe the dynamical complexity and obtain a Refined Dynamical Structure for Recurrence Theory and Multi-fractal Analysis. Abstract:Chaotic dynamics with sensitive dependence on initial conditions may result in exponential decay of correlation functions. We show that for one-dimensional interval maps the corresponding quantities, that is, Lyapunov exponents and exponential decay rates are related. For piecewise linear expanding Markov maps observed via piecewise analytic functions we provide explicit bounds of the decay rate in terms of the Lyapunov exponent. In addition, we comment on similar relations for general piecewise smooth expanding maps.

Abstract:We present an entropy formula of Ledrappier-Young type for invariant measures (maybe non-SRB) of C(2) endomorphisms (maybe non-invertible and with singularities) on a compact manifold via their inverse limit spaces. This result may be considered as the most general form of entropy formula for a deterministic system with an invariant measure, and a preliminary step to Eckmann-Ruelle conjecture. As an important application, we have proved the exact dimensionality of ergodic measures invariant under expanding maps.

Abstract:We study distributions $F$ on $[0,\infty)$ such that for some $T\le\infty$, $F^{*2}(x,x+T]\sim 2 F(x,x+T]$. The case $T=\infty$ corresponds to $F$ being subexponential, and our analysis shows that the properties for $T<\infty$ are, in fact, very similar to this classical case. A parallel theory is developed in the presence of densities. Applications are given to random walks, the key renewal theorem, compound Poisson process and Bellman-Harris branching processes.

Different Statistical Future of Dynamical Orbits over Expanding or Hyperbolic Systems (I): Empty Syndetic Center

Abstract: In the theory of dynamical systems, a fundamental problem is to study the asymptotic behavior of dynamical orbits. Lots of different asymptotic behavior have been learned including different periodic-like recurrence such periodic and almost periodic, the level sets and irregular sets of Birkhoff ergodic avearge, Lyapunov expoents. In present article we use upper and lower natural density, upper and lower Banach density to differ statistical future of dynamical orbits and establish several statistical concepts on limit sets, in particular such that not only different recurrence are classifiable but also different non-recurrence are classifiable. In present paper we mainly deal with dynamical orbits with empty syndetic center and show that twelve different statistical structure over expanding or hyperbolic dynamical systems all have dynamical complexity as strong as the dynamical system itself in the sense of topological entropy. Moreover, multifractal analysis on various non-recurrence and Birkhoff ergodic averages are considered together to illustrate that the non-recurrent set has rich and colorful asymptotic behavior from the statistical perspective, although the non-recurrent set has zero measure for any invariant measure from the probabilistic perspective. Roughly speaking, on one hand our results describe a world in which there are twelve different predictable order in strongly chaotic systems but also there are strong chaos in any fixed predictable order from the viewpoint of dynamical complexity on full topological entropy; and on other hand we find that various asymptotic behavior such as (non-)recurrence and (ir)regularity from differnt perspecitve survive togother and display strong dynamical complexity in the sense of full topological entropy. In this process we obtain two powerful ergodic properties on entropy-dense property and saturated property.
