Detection and clinical values of CD4 + CD25 + regulatory cells in peripheral blood of patients with malignant tumor aged 80 years old and over

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the change of CD4+CD25+regulatory cells(Treg) in peripheral blood of patients with malignant tumor aged 80 years old and over.Methods Seventy elderly patients with malignant tumor aged 80 and over were enrolled in this study,and 30 healthy aged people were enrolled as controls.The ratio of Treg in the peripheral blood was determined by flow cytometry.Meanwhile,the plasma level of C-reactive protein(CRP) was detected by immunoturbidimetry.Results The ratio of Treg in the peripheral blood and the plasma levels of CRP in very elderly patients with malignant tumor were significantly higher than those in the normal controls(P<0.01).With the increase of the level of CRP and tumor clinical stage,the ratio of Treg in the peripheral blood increased.There were significant positive correlations between the ratio of Treg in the peripheral blood and the plasma levels of CRP,tumor clinical stage.Reversely,there was a significant negative correlation between the ratio of Treg and Karnofsky score.Conclusions The ratio of Treg in the peripheral blood in very elderly patients with malignant tumor is significantly increased in comparison with that in healthy subjects.It helps determine the prognosis of very elderly patients with malignant tumor by detecting the ratio of Treg in the peripheral blood.
