Virtualized network experimental platform based on layer abstraction

Abstract:The Internet is an important infrastructure in today's society but there are several problems with the current Internet and innovative solutions are needed. An effective experimental environment, TUNIE, is developed by Tsinghua University, for verifying and testing of new architectures, algorithms and protocols in a virtualization based network platform. Layer abstraction is used in the design, with the system divided into four layers for heterogeneous resource management, virtualization, management and measurements, and an application layer. This achieves functional decoupling and layer optimization. The system is used to investigate high-performance programmable router design, virtualization mapping and scheduling algorithms, and management and measurement system structures. The system has been used for prototype deployment and can simultaneously support up to 40 tests. The system is scalable and programmable and can reproduce the real Internet environment, providing an excellent experimental environment for network research.
