Abstract:Facile construction of 1,3-dienes building upon cross-electrophile coupling of two open-chain vinyl halides is disclosed in this work, showing moderate chemoselectivities between the terminal bromoalkenes and internal vinyl bromides. The present method is mild and tolerates a range of functional groups and can be applied to the total synthesis of a tobacco fragrance solanone.

Abstract:The terminal isoprene unit, as the simplest branched 1,3-diene unit, exists in a wide range of natural products and bioactive molecules. Herein, we report a stereoselective rhodium-catalyzed reaction of allenes with readily available methyl pinacol boronic ester, providing a straightforward approach to isoprene derivatives with a very high E-stereoselectivity. Its synthetic potential has been illustrated by a concise synthesis of natural product schinitrienin. Such a protocol can be easily extended to aryl and alkenyl boronic reagents affording 2-aryl or -alkenyl substituted 1,3-dienes, which are also of high importance in organic synthesis but remain challenging for their selective synthesis, with a remarkable stereoselectivity. A series of deuterium-labeling experiments indicate a unique mechanism, which involves reversible β-H elimination as well as hydrometalation and isomerization of the allylic rhodium species. The isoprene unit is widely found in bioactive molecules, but stereoselective synthetic methods for these 1,3-dienes remain limited. Here, the authors disclose an E-selective rhodium-catalyzed synthesis of terminal isoprene units from allenes.

Abstract:Abstract Alkylselenovinyldialkylborane derivatives, obtained by hydroboration of terminal alkylselenoacetylenes 1 with dialkylboranes 2, were treated at -15°C with sodium methoxide and cuprous bromide-methyl sulfide to generate alkylselenovinylcopper intermediates which underwent stereospecific cross-coupling with allyl bromide to yield (E)-1-alkylseleno-1, 4-pentadienes 3. The compounds 3 were formed with retention of configuration predetermined from the stereochemistry of the initial alkylselenovinylboranes.

Abstract:Here, we reported a cobalt-hydride-catalyzed Markovnikov-type hydroallylation of terminal alkynes with allylic electrophile to access valuable and branched skipped dienes (1,4-dienes) with good regioselectivity. This operationally simple protocol exhibits excellent functional group tolerance and exceptional substrate scope. The reactions could be carried out in gram-scale with TON (turn over number) up to 1160, and the products could be easily derivatized. The preliminary mechanism of electrophilic allylation of α-selective cobalt alkenyl intermediate was proposed based on deuterium labeling experiment and kinetic studies.

Abstract:Transition metal-catalyzed hydrostannylation of alkynes is an atom-economic way towards valuable α-vinylstannanes. However, directing-group-free examples for the construction of α-adducts are rare and mostly undergo the M-Sn species insertion process. Here, we report an efficient cobalt-catalyzed highly α-selective hydrostannylation of terminal alkynes via M-H species, using readily available Bu3SnH and easily accessible as well as bench-stable ligand. The robust catalytic system, bearing good functional group tolerance and operational simplicity, provides the α-vinylstannanes in moderate to excellent yields with ⩾97:3 rr averagely. The efficiency of the reaction is investigated with turnover number (TON) up to 10,000 and turnover frequency (TOF) up to 144,000 h−1, respectively. The synthetic utility of the α-vinylstannanes is proved by further derivatizations towards the 1,1-disubstituted alkenes via Kosugi-Migita-Stille cross-coupling, conjugated alkene, α-vinyliodine, α-vinylazide, and allyl alcohol. Several control experiments, deuterium-labeling experiment and density functional theory (DFT) calculations are conducted to reveal the preliminary mechanism.

Abstract:A palladium-catalyzed coupling reaction of alkynes and silicon electrophiles is reported, affording E - or Z -silyl-enynes in high yields and in a highly stereoselective manner depending on the choice of ligands. We report a palladium-catalyzed coupling reaction of alkynes and silicon electrophiles, affording stereodefined silyl-enynes. Either E - or Z -enynes can be formed in high yields and in a highly stereoselective manner depending on the choice of ligands.

Abstract:Unprecedented palladium-catalysed regio- and stereo-selective coupling reactions of homoallenylboronates with (hetero)aryl iodides, allyl bromides and alkynyl bromides in aqueous solution were successfully developed. The corresponding 1,3-dienes, skipped dienes and conjugate enynes were obtained as products, respectively, in high yields and with specific stereoselectivity. Therefore, the homoallenylboronates were potentially powerful and flexible "platform" molecules to form the complex 1,3-dienyl compounds.

Abstract:Phenylseleno- and p-tolylsulfonyl substituted 1,3-dienes were conveniently prepared with high stereoselectivity by the elimination reaction of phenylseleno- and p-tolylsulfonyl substituted allyl alcohols in the presence of BF3·Et2O in acetic anhydride. The products were characterized by 1H NMR, MS, IR and elemental analysis. The single crystal structure of 2a was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis.
