Abstract:The North Hangzhou Bay,one of the coastal wetlands of China on regional distribution,is located in the southernmost tip of Shanghai.Affected by natural and human activities, the wetland ecosystem is threatened. The spatial analysis of endangered status of wetland in the North Hangzhou Bay has been performed by selecting high spatial resolution remote sensing images, interpreting more than 1hm2 of wetland patches as assessment units, and selecting four evaluation indicators, based on 3S technology and AHP.These indicators are the level of urbanization, the risk of chemical water pollution, alien invasive wetland vegetation, and coastal erosion. The results show that:(1) the threatened degree of more than 90% of wetlands is in low level in the North Hangzhou Bay;(2) the number of patches at high threaten level is small, but statistically peaked in the muddy coast of Jinshan part of the North Hangzhou Bay;(3) remote sensing and GIS technology may be used effectively in wetland space threatened degree analysis. The results provide the valuable insights into the wetland conservation and management for the North Hangzhou Bay.
