Abstract:This paper presents a novel sustainable inventory model tailored for non-instantaneous deteriorating items, incorporating quadratic demand and time-dependent holding costs. Notably, the model accounts for shortages over a finite time horizon, simulating real-world scenarios. The inventory management the strategy involves distributing products across three warehouses: the Own Warehouse (OW) and two Rental Warehouses (RW), with applications spanning supermarkets, bakeries, malls, and floral businesses. The primary objective is minimizing total costs to enhance consumer satisfaction and bolster profits. The theoretical framework is substantiated through numerical examples, focusing on the critical finding regarding optimal total cost. A special methodology is employed to balance inventory dynamics amidst various warehouses, optimizing resource allocation and mitigating shortages. Furthermore, a comprehensive sensitivity analysis using MATLAB Software unveils the repercussions of parameter modifications, providing valuable insights for decision-makers in diverse industrial settings.

Abstract:A new policy, referred to as the condition-based replacement and spare provisioning policy, is presented for deteriorating systems with a number of identical units. It combines the condition-based replacement policy with periodical inspections and the (S,s) type inventory policy, noted as the (T,S,s,Lp) policy, where T is the inspection interval, S is the maximum stock level, s is the reorder level, and Lp is the preventive replacement threshold for the deterioration levels of units. The deterioration level of each unit in the system can be described by a scalar random variable, which is continuous and increasing monotonically. Furthermore, the deterioration level just when the unit failure occurs, termed deterioration to failure, is uncertain. Therefore, the condition-based reliability is proposed in order to characterize various and uncertain deterioration levels when unit failure occurs. A simulation model is developed for the system operation under the proposed condition-based replacement and spare provisioning policy. Thus, via the simulation method and the genetic algorithm, the decision variables T, S, s, and Lp can be jointly optimized for minimizing the cost rate. A case study is given, showing the procedure of applying the proposed policy and the condition-based reliability methodology to optimizing the maintenance scheme of haul truck motors at a mine site based on oil inspections, and proving beneficial for plant maintenance managers to reduce maintenance cost.

Abstract:This paper deals with the two-warehouse partial backlogging inventory problems under inflation for a deteriorating product with a constant demand rate over an infinite horizon. In contrast to the traditional model in which each replenishment cycle starts with an instant replenishment and ends with shortages, an alternative model is proposed in recent literature in which each cycle starts with shortages. It is proven to be less expensive to operate than the traditional model in terms of the present value of the cost per unit time. The present paper points out that the criteria of minimizing the cost per unit time is unreasonable when the inflationary effect is taken into consideration, and instead, the criteria of minimizing the present value of the total cost over the whole infinite planning horizon should be used. The objective functions of these two models are changed and proved that the model with shortages at the start of the cycle is less expensive to operate than the traditional model in terms of the present value of the total cost, but the optimal solutions of the models minimizing the cost per unit time indicate significantly higher total costs.

Abstract:In this paper, a deterministic inventory control model with deterioration is developed. Here, the deterioration rate follows stochastic deterioration, especially Weibull distribution deterioration. A time-dependent demand approach is introduced to show the applicability of our proposed model and to be up-to-date with respect to time. The main purpose of the paper is to investigate the optimal retailer’s replenishment decisions for deteriorating items including time-dependent demand for demonstrating more practical circumstances within economic-order quantity frameworks. Keeping in mind the criterion of modern era, we consider that the holding cost is totally dependent on time, and shortages are allowed for this model. Subject to the formulated model, we minimize the total inventory cost. The mathematical model is explored by numerical examples to validate the proposed model. A sensitivity analysis of the optimal solution with regard to important parameters is also carried out to elaborate the quality, e.g., stability, of our result and to possibly modify our model. The paper ends with a conclusion and an outlook to future studies.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a continuous time model for a multi-echelon inventory system. Items in the inventory are deteriorating. Lateral transshipment are allowed among the warehouses in the same echelon where transshipment rate depends on the inventory level of the corresponding warehouses. We give some sufficient conditions for the equilibrium points of the system to be stable. By aggregating the warehouses in an echelon, a fast procedure is developed for finding the equilibrium values of inventory level at each warehouse.

Abstract:A recently published paper by Lee [C.C. Lee, Two-warehouse inventory model with deterioration under FIFO dispatching policy, European Journal of Operational Research 174 (2006) 861–873] considers different dispatching models for the two-warehouse inventory system with deteriorating items, in which Pakkala and Achary’s LIFO (last-in–first-out) model [T.P.M. Pakkala, K.K. Achary, A deterministic inventory model for deteriorating items with two warehouses and finite replenishment rate, European Journal of Operational Research 57 (1992) 71–76] is first modified, and then the author concludes that the modified LIFO model always has a lower cost than Pakkala and Achary’s LIFO model under a particular condition specified by him. The present note points out that this conclusion is incorrect and misleading. Alternatively, we provide a new sufficient condition such that the modified LIFO model always has a lower cost than Pakkala and Achary’s model. Besides, we also compare Pakkala and Achary’s original LIFO model with Lee’s FIFO (first-in–first-out) model for the special case where the two warehouses have the same deteriorating rates. Finally, numerical examples are provided to investigate and examine the impact of corresponding parameters on policy choice. The results in this note give a much clearer picture than those at Lee’s paper about the relationships between the different dispatching policies for the two-warehouse inventory system with deterioration items.

Abstract:The models of inventory replenishment policies for the deterioration items have been widely studied, and in most of the deterministic models, the in-transit deteriorating loss is not considered. But in operation management practice, transportation time is the major portion of the lead time, and the extent of spoilage of the fresh items is also influenced by the length of shipping time. The impact of in-transit deterioration loss to the optimal replenishment policy for deteriorating goods was studied. Firstly a in-transit and on-hand two-phase inventory model with different deterioration rate was established, then it was proved that there exists unique optimal order cycle to minimize the relevant annual cost, and the optimal order cycle is do affected by the length of transportation time and the deterioration rate in-transit. Finally, numerical examples were conducted to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed model. © 2011 IEEE.

Abstract:Through practical investigation as well as related inventory management theory,the model of two phases inventory system with changing deteriorating rate was presented.In the first phase,the decreasing of stock level was caused by demand and deterioration simultaneous.After a deterministic period of shelf life,the seller would change the keeping condition by technical means to avoid the cost of deterioration of the items remained,and then enter the second phase.The decision variable of the seller is the replenishment cycle time to minimize the total relevant cost.The proper mathematical model was established,through analytical analysis,we derive theoretical result to determine the optimal solution.Finally,a numerical example is shown to illustrate the theoretical results and the cost reduced by the two phases inventory policy of the retailer.

Abstract:This paper presents a two‐warehouse inventory model for non‐instantaneous deteriorating items with a price‐dependent stochastic demand under advance sales discount and available capacity. In this model, the retailer offers a price discount to customers if they can commit their orders prior to the sales period. It encourages the retailer to order a large quantity that can be stored in an owned warehouse and then in a rented warehouse if there are excess items. Shortages are allowed and partially backlogged. The objective of this paper is to simultaneously determine the optimal price discount, the optimal order quantity, and the optimal replenishment schedule in such a way that the expected total profit is maximized. Two theorems are proved in order to verify that the expected total profit function is concave and to identify that an optimal replenishment decision exists. We further propose an algorithm to find the optimal replenishment policy by the retailer. Finally, we use numerical examples to illustrate the results presented herein. Moreover, based upon the sensitivity analysis, some important managerial implications are also discussed.

Abstract:In this paper, we model a deterministic horizon inventory problem with deteriorating items and partial backlogging. Demand may vary with price, and with time, and the supplier extends credit to the retailer, so that the retailer does not have to pay for goods immediately upon acquiring them, and can instead earn interest based on retail price between the time that he sells the goods and the end of the credit period. This model incorporates many significant characteristics of real world problem, such as trade credit, price-and-time varying demand, deteriorating items and partial backlogging, which have not previously been considered in an integrated model. We develop an algorithm to determine the optimal pricing and replenishment strategy for this model. The result is useful for managers making decisions.

Abstract:The effect of investing in reducing ordering cost on the deteriorating inventory model with allowable shortage and delay in payment is studied.Based on the payment time that is before or after the total depletion of inventory,two distinct cases of the inventory system are considered,and proper mathematical models are established under different circumsfances to find the optimal solutions of order cycle,ordering cost and the length of the period with positive stock,so that the total cost incurred per unit time has minimum value.Classifying this nonlinear programming problem into 11 sub-cases totally,several theoretical results are derived,and it is shown that there exists at most one minimum point under every sub-case within its feasible region,so improved Newton iteration method is used to find the extreme points.Upon this,a solution procedure is established to find the optimal solution.Finally,combining operations management practice,numerical examples are conducted to illustrate the contribution of ordering cost reduction and the effectiveness of the proposed model.

Abstract:The integrated ordering and distributing policy for deteriorating item is studied.In a joint decision-making supply chain with one supplier distributing a single item to many retailers,it is assumed that each retailer has a fixed demand rate with no shortage allowed,and the deterioration occurs in the retail stage as well as the transportation stage.The objective is to determine the optimal routing schedules,lot size and cycle time for each retailer to minimize the joint total cost per unit time of the distribution network.By developing a proper mathematical model,we derive the properties of the objective function.Then,an improved C-W savings algorithm with binary search nested is developed to determine optimal solutions.Finally,numerical examples are conducted to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed model,and the substantial cost savings by controlling in-transit and on-hand deterioration loss for the deteriorating item supply chain.

Abstract:An integrated cooperative inventory decision model in the supply chain for deteriorating item is studied.Considering a supplier and a retailer integrated supply chain,the supplier offers a retailer a trade credit period,and the retailer must make a partial payment when the order is filled,and also there is a constant deterioration rate occurring at the retailer's store because of sales conditions.The objective of the model is to determine the supplier's optimal lot size multiplier n and the retailer's optimal order cycle to minimize the joint total cost per unit time.A proper mathematical model is developed,several theoretical results derived,and it is proved that for a fixed n,there exists unique optimal solution under every scenario.On this basis,an iterative algorithm is established to find the optimal solution.Finally,combining operations management practice,numerical examples are conducted to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed model.

Abstract:The characteristics considered in this study are probabilistic demand, perishable products, and warehouse constraints for multi-item inventory models. This condition occurs in several industries that consider perishable factors and warehouse constraints, namely companies that produce food, food sales agents, and retail that sell goods to end customers. The Karush-Kuhn-Tucker Condition approach was used to solve the warehouse capacity problem to find the optimum point of a constrained function. The results of the developed inventory model provide two optimal ordering times, namely ordering time-based on warehouse capacity and joint order time, and the two ordering time values will be compared to determine which ordering time is optimal. In addition, the sensitivity analysis to the model was done to analyse the total inventory costs in a planning horizon, the time between goods ordering from one cycle to the next cycle, and the number of items that will expire. The parameters to be changed for the sensitivity test were warehouse constraint, a fraction of good condition goods, holding costs per unit per period, and all unit discount factors. The sensitivity analysis was done to see the behaviour of the total cost, time to order changes, and the quantity of perished products. The result of model testing and sensitivity analysis showed that total cost, based on joint order, is sensitive to the fraction of good condition products, discount, and holding cost. The joint order was not sensitive to the warehouse capacity. In general, the model was perceived as able to describe the behaviour of the model components.

Abstract:To investigate retailers' optimal policy when they face temporary price discounts afforded by suppliers for deteriorating items, we build a temporary price discounts model which considering time value of money, for exponentially deteriorating items. We also analyse the different pricing and inventory policy in two different environments when the inventory is zero and not zero. A numerical example is given to illustrate the model.

Abstract:The economic lot-sizing problem of deteriorating item with deterministic dynamic demand and storage constraints is studied.Mathematical model is presented to minimize the linear preparation,setup,inventory and deterioration costs.A heuristic algorithm for this problem is introduced.An initial lower bound solution is derived based upon the Wagner-Whitin algorithm,and then infeasibleperiool is removed by shifting quantities among periods to fit storage constraints.A numerical example is provided.

Abstract:The paper focuses on the stock model for goods of non-instantaneous metamorphism. The demand is decided by stock and lags behind shortage, in other words, backlog rate. However, backlog rate is some kind of non-increasing function to calculate the replenishment time. Therefore, the paper puts forward an optimal model for replenishment strategy, figures out solutions to handling stock and replenishment and analyzes the sensitivity of each parameter based on numerical analysis.

Abstract:In this article, we analyze an economic order quantity (EOQ) model for deteriorating products, in which we assume that the deteriorating items not only deteriorate continuously, but also have their maximum lifetime and we determine the optimal solution of the total annual relevant cost in terms of some lemmas and investigate the obtained properties of the optimal solution, which leads to solution procedures that are simple and easy to understand. We then show that the total annual relevant cost is convex and this result is shown to imply that the optimal replenishment cycle time not only exists, but it also is unique. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate the theoretical results of this model. We also present a discussion of the sensitivity analysis of the optimal solution with respect to the key parameters. Furthermore, in the last section on concluding remarks and observations, we have cited many related recent works on the subject-matter of this investigation in order to provide incentive and motivation for making further advances along the lines of the supply chain management and associated inventory problems which we have discussed in this article.
