Abstract:Using the explanatory variables of individual attributes, commuting distance and land-use characteristics, this study develops a multinomial logistic model to examine the effects of the urban land-use characteristics on commuter travel, based on a travel survey of 1339 individuals from nine selected sub-districts of Hangzhou. The results show that, a car-dominated commuting pattern had come into being with high-density urban expansion and household income increase; and the land-use characteristics of small street blocks, high-density street networks, mixed land use, etc. are the encouraging factors of automobile dependence. These findings suggest that people’s travel behavior should be optimized towards achieving "green pattern" by synthesizing multiple tools of land use planning, car-use regulation and transit environment design.

Abstract:This paper puts forward the traffic effect in the centraldistrict of urban expansion in the proceeding of the urbanization. The trip generation forecasting model of the urban traffic is established based on the relationship between the selection of residential location and the trip generation. Abstract:This paper made a description of mixed-traffic phenomenon in china briefly.It summarized the research development worldwide.Characteristics of both bicycle and pedestrian crossing intersection were analyzed,including arrival and departure procedure.The problem of vehicle and non-vehicle collision was studied,and an effective resolve method was worked out for it.Finally,the calculation for mixed-traffic integrated volume rate was researched,and the coefficients of bicycle for different circumstance are given out.

Abstract:Transportation takes an important part in economy,its impact on regional land use change has not yet drawn enough attention.Based on lots of literature,this paper reviews the influence of road transportation systems,including motorways,common highways,urban rail transits and railways on regional land use change.The investigation shows that the current research directions mainly focus on the influence of road on regional land use change.The investigation also find that road transportation systems could enhance accessibility and affect the land use change in surrounding areas,based on the rank of the road,the distance from road,the original land use types and so on.Compared to open road systems,closed road systems including motorways,city rails and railways,the influence on surrounding land use is realized through spots such as entrance and stations and then expanded along the road systems.In terms of researching methods,Chinese scholars prefer qualitative analysis,while scientists abroad tend to adopt model analysis.Taking buffer analysis into consideration,which is now a widely used method in this field,it requires scientific improvement in the determination of buffer zones.on top of that,the final parts of the essay suggests that further attention should be paid on special nodes and areas,method improvement and comprehensive modeling.

Abstract:As an emerging city that has developed rapidly after China’s reform and opening up, Shenzhen’s urban appearance can not only reflect the general situation of China’s vast cities, but also have certain historical particularities. Based on the introduction of the status quo of Shenzhen’s urban development, this paper qualitatively studies the distance distribution and traffic structure characteristics of Shenzhen residents in the four travel scenarios of commuting, shopping, leisure and pick-up, and makes a portrait discussion on the current status of mobility in Shenzhen. And predicted the future development direction of Shenzhen’s transportation.

Abstract:Concerning the closed residential communities design and using residential streets as urban roads due to traffic congestion in China,this paper reviews the devel-opment of spatial distribution of residential communities and exist-ing problems.Based on a summary of development trend and experi-ence from other countries,the pa-per discusses spatial distribution of residential communities in China and corresponding roadway plan-ning and design principles.The pa-per proposes a multi-level spatial pattern planning and design meth-odology for residential communi-ties,and presents the four key de-sign aspects: spatial scale,travel speed and traffic volume control,green design and hierarchy design.Finally,the paper points out that roadway planning and design of res-idential communities should empha-size the quietness and safety,while coordinate with spatial distribution of residential communities and ur-ban transportation system.

Abstract:<p>Car dependency has been well recognized in low-density urban areas in developed countries, where travel demand management (TDM) has focused on providing transit-riding and non-motorized modes of transport, rather than restricting car ownership. In contrast, many megacities in China have adopted vehicle quota systems, fearing that additional car owners will become addicted to driving despite the soaring travel congestion and air pollution. This study investigated two research questions: Under what built environment characteristics would China's car owners give up driving for other commuting modes? Are the effects of built environment characteristics on car ownership and commuting mode choice spatially heterogeneous across zones? We use a household travel survey in Nanjing city, where no car quota system exists, to examine car owners' commuting mode choice. Innovatively, a multilevel discrete choice model with sample selection was used to reveal the effects of the built environment on car ownership and commuting mode choice simultaneously. We found significant spatial heterogeneities in car ownership and commuting mode choice across traffic analysis zones, while the built environment was found to play an important role. Our findings suggest that Chinese urbanites may be less addicted to driving than they appear, and city governments should be more progressive in regulating driving by improving the urban form.</p>

Abstract:The New Urbanism, which emerged in 1990s, mainly aims to revive communities and eliminate the effects of urban sprawl from the angle of community planning and design. This theory receives great success and is widely accepted. However, in China, concept confusion and mechanical copy are not rare in the application of New Urbanism in community planning and research. With a profound understanding of the origins and connotations of New Urbanism, this thesis discusses the differences between China and the Western countries, which are the motive of urban sprawl, the compactness of community, the relation between the city center and the suburb, the community culture and the stage of the development of transportation. Then, regarding the issues that emerged from mechanically copying the design principles and blindly copying the local context in China, such as the loss of cultural roots and livability caused by deliberate imitation, it proposes five planning principles and implementation approaches of how to build New Urbanism community within China, including the justice of urban roads and commuter traffic, the sharing of community resource and the accessibility of public space, environmental and ecological sustainability, community and site-cultural sustainability.

Abstract:This paper firstly reviews the basic urban spatial models and the international empirical studies on the interaction between residential land use pattern and urban transportation. It also discusses the social outcomes of the interaction between housing and transportation,such as housing affordability,welfare of middle-and-low income families and environmental concerns. Based on the analysis,this paper sets three principal goals for the integrated spatial planning of housing and transportation,and then puts forward some policy implications in China's context.

Abstract:In the context of climate change and global emissions reduction,urban development with low-carbon mode becomes an important part of carbon emission mitigation.Because Urban Form can indirectly influence urban elements and it is the core of urban planning,the relationship between Urban Form and carbon emission becomes the hot issue in research.On the basis of reviewing the study at home and abroad,this paper starts to summarize the notions and the framework of the study.It also clarifies that the quantitative study is the main direction after clearing the logical relationship between Urban Form and carbon emission.Considering the particularity of domestic cities,doing the quantitative study can help to recognize the practical problems and provide the academic basic for the low-carbon urban planning.

Abstract:With the rapid urbanization development in China, the incongruity between transportation infrastructure and preservation of local culture and ecological system has become a critical issue. By introducing the concept of city cells and exploring its ecological and social characteristics, this paper analyzes the interaction and intertwined effects between urban ecological nature and transportation system. Then the paper points out that the scale and type of transportation system should be developed in accordance with city cells to match and enhance local significant natural and ecological characteristics. Additionally, it is necessary to minimize the impact of transportation infrastructure construction on the unique cultural characteristics of old towns. The integrated development of transportation and land use should be emphasized in new urban areas to establish green transportation oriented urban comprehensive transportation system. Finally, the paper presents planning schemes for city cells with different functionalities, such as residential, commercial and transportation terminals land use, and etc.

Abstract:The significance of traffic congestion and air pollution in Chinese cities was highlighted during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Many attribute the problem to the rocket soaring car ownership and the increasing dependence on car for urban Chinese in their daily travel. More fundamental issues, however, have not yet received sufficient attention: apart from increased income, what other factors contribute to the growing demand for car? Apart from increased accessibility to car, what other factors contribute to the increased urban traffic? Based on our recent research on urban transportation in China, we hypothesize that spatial restructuring in Chinese cities, resulted from Danwei (or work unit), land, and housing reforms, has largely, if not fundamentally, changed the ways that urban Chinese use time and space and consequently their travel behavior. This paper investigates the interrelations between urban form remaking, car-dependence and traffic congestion in Beijing, the capital city of China. Specifically, we will characterize the built environment in Beijing and establish associations between built environment and activity-travel behavior in terms of car ownership, the use of time and space, travel frequencies and duration and shares of motorized and non-motorized transport modes. The results show that residents of different types of neighborhood demonstrate significantly different travel behavior in terms of car ownership, time use, travel time and travel distance. These findings support the argument that there are associations between built environment and travel behavior.

Abstract:It is generally accepted to improve the public transport system, but most of the research is on the macro level, mainly on the transit oriented land use patterns; on the micro level, there is little research on the relationship between public transportation and residential area. This paper summarizes the construction characteristics of current residential area in China, and compares with relevant excellent examples about the layout of residential area in foreign transit oriented cities, and then puts forward the transit oriented residential planning model suitable for China, in order to promote public transit and build transit metropolis.

Abstract:As a part of urban complex ecological system,urban traffic system function as the "blood system" of a city.The traffic carrying capacity could influence the urban development and living environment.This paper introduces an on-road-vehicle carrying capacity model based on road,energy and atmospheric environment analysis.And it has applied to Wuhan.The results show that the maximum on-road-vehicle is 407 thousand in Wuhan within the limitation of road,energy and air quality;NOx capacity is the main limit of the transportation system in Wuhan.

This article chose three representative regions,and the authors found that different road transportations have different influences on the change of urban spatial structure. The central city is mainly influenced by rings,highways,subways and railways,and the suburban area is mainly impacted by the national road and provincial road.
