Abstract:Reaction of N,N-diallyl-p-toluenesulfonamide 1 with benzyl halides 2 in the presence of a palladium catalyst afforded a series of novel dihydropyrroles 3 in moderate yields. A palladium-catalyzed self-cyclization reaction of the diene 1 may take place to give a cyclic dihydropyrrole 4 during the reaction. It is proposed that the cyclic products 4 are formed via a palladium-catalyzed cascade cyclization-coupling process. Reaction of phenyl iodide 5 with 1 in the same condition afforded normal Heck vinylation products 6

Abstract:A tandem palladium-catalyzed Sonogashira coupling, propargyl-allenyl isomerization, and [2+2] cycloaddition sequence between electron-deficient haloarenes and 1,8-diynylic ethers is developed. The reaction shows good functional tolerance and proceeds under mild conditions to provide a new profile of benzooxepane-fused cyclobutene derivatives in moderate to high yields with high selectivity. The reaction mechanism is validated both by experimental studies and DFT calculations.

Abstract:A highly efficient palladium‐catalyzed cascade metallo‐ene/metallo‐carbene coupling reaction was developed to produce 2,3‐dihydropyrrole derivatives in high yields. In this transformation, two new C sp 3 ‐C sp 2 and C sp 2 ‐C sp 2 bonds were constructed in one‐pot. The alkene was one of the most easily functionalized groups, making it possible for these molecules to be transformed into more complex molecules. More importantly, the final product possesed an attractive 1,3,5‐trienes scaffold, which was difficult to be synthesized.

Abstract:A tandem coupling-ketooxygenation reaction of readily accessible enediyne-carboxylic compounds with inner alkynes has been developed that utilizes the PdCl2/CuBr2 catalytic system under an O2 atmosphere and assembles a class of isoindolinones and o-acylbenzoic acids. The two oxygen atoms are regioselectively incorporated into enediyne units at the 1- and 6-positions from atmospheric molecular oxygen and H2O, respectively, during the present process. This study uncovered a formal [4C + 2C] benzannulation-diketonization of enediynes and alkynes via a coupling and decoupling strategy.

Abstract:A direct synthesis of multi-substituted pyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazines via palladium(II)-catalyzed C(sp)–C(sp2) cascade coupling and intramolecular cyclization in the presence of ligand was developed. This reaction originates from phenylboronic acids and readily synthesized 2-carbonyl- or 2-formylpyrroloacetonitriles, and affords products in good to excellent yields for a diversity of substrates. Additionally, a possible mechanism for the transformation is proposed.

Abstract:A novel Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H activation/[5 + 2] cascade annulation of aroyl hydrazides with iodonium ylides is accomplished, in which diverse seven-membered dibenzodiazepinediones were afforded in moderate to excellent yields. This annulation reaction features an ideal functional group tolerance and a wide substrate scope. Large-scale and derivatization reactions were conducted to demonstrate the potential utility of this transformation.

Abstract:A highly enantioselective cascade carbonylation/annulation of benzyl bromides, CO, and vinyl benzoxazinanones under mild conditions has been established by Pd/chiral Lewis base relay catalysis, providing an efficient method to assemble chiral quinolinones from readily available starting materials in good yields with excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivities. The palladium catalyst plays two roles in this reaction, enabling both the carbonylation process and the generation of the zwitterionic π-allyl palladium intermediate.

Abstract:Iridium-catalyzed dearomative allylation/acyl transfer rearrangement has been developed using easily available 2-pyridinyl benzoates and vinyl ethylene carbonate. This protocol enabled the expedient synthesis of a variety of chiral N-substituted 2-pyridones in good to high yields with excellent enantioselectivity. It has the advantages of high atom economy, wide substrate scope, gram-scale synthesis, and versatile synthetic transformations.

Abstract:A Pd(II)-catalyzed mild and highly regioselective 6- endo cyclization/allylation reaction of enynoates with simple allylic alcohols has been developed. Under mild reaction conditions, the vinyl palladium species generated in situ after cyclization could insert C-C double bond of allylic alcohol through cross-coupling reaction and lead to the formation of allyl pyrone via β-OH elimination. This cascade cross-coupling reaction represents a direct and atom economic methodology for the construction of novel allyl pyrones in moderate to good yields.
