Discussion for the Clinical Definition of Pancreatic Cancer in China

Abstract:Pancreatic cancer is one of the most lethal human cancers.Its diagnosis and treatment are difficult and lagged behind some other malignant tumors.Early diagnosis and improved treatment must become the standard of care for patients with pancreatic cancer.Despite evidence of pathology is the key to the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer,it is yet difficult to carry out due to the rationale as followed.First,the special nature of anatomical location of the pancreas and its fragile texture augment the risk of biopsy.Moreover,it is difficult to implement this measure since patients is lack of medical knowledge and fear of invasive examination.Third,Medical environment in China,such as the diversity of socioeconomic or cultural status and imparity of medical resources or services,lead to clinical evidence of pathology is more difficult to be obtained.In regard these,a considerable number of patients failed to receive active treatment due to the lack of pathological diagnosis.Therefore,a new clinical diagnostic criteria and grading standards of pancreatic cancer suitable for Chinese patients were introduced by us.Its purpose is to guide the clinical treatment options and improve the level of diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer in China.
