Abstract:Objective To investigate the bacterial spectrum of pathogens colonized in the oropharynx and the drug sensitivity. Methods Throat swab cultures were used to isolate oropharyngeal pathogens from 113 patients who were older than 65 years and hospitalized at the department of geriatric comprehensive ward in Peking University First Hospital from March 2009 to January 2010.Results Three hundred and eighty bacterial strains were isolated from 205 samples collected from 113 patients in which 83.9% were normal flora. As for the abnormal flora,GNB accounted for the largest,55.7%,MRSA for the second,11.5%.Pseudomonas aeruginosa was the largest proportion of GNB,accounting for 52.9%.62.3% of the abnormal flora bacteria strains were multi-drug resistant strains. The highest rate of resistance to antibiotics was found in ampicillin, followed by cefazolin and cefotaxime.Oropharyngeal GNB colonization rate was 16.4% in group with lung disease, which was higher than that in group without lung disease(3.3%)(P<0.05).Conclusion GNB was the most common abnormal flora colonized in the oropharynx in elderly inpatients.Among them,Pseudomonas aeruginosa accounted for the largest proportion.Oropharyngeal GNB colonization rate was much higher in group with lung diseases than that in group without lung diseases.
