Abstract:A bacterial strain named GS3C isolated from petroleum-contaminated soil in Guangzhou petrochemical industry was identified based on its morphology,physiological-biochemical characteristics as well as partial 16S rDNA sequence analysis. The effects of yeast extract, carbon source, nitrogen source, vitamins and casein acid on the biodegradation potential were investigated under vibrational and aerobiotic conditions. The effects of each amino acid on the biodegradation potential were also examined. The strain GS3C was identified to be Burkholderia cepacia, since it exhibited 97% similarity in partial 16S rDNA sequence. The results showed that the biodegradation potential to cetane was promoted significantly with the addition of yeast extract.Amino acids were the primary factor for the biodegradation rate, while nutrient carbon sources, nitrogen sources and vitamins were not significant.Further studies also indicated that the combination of L-glutamic acid,L-proline,L-lysine,L-valine and L-leucine were most effective for promoting the biodegradation potential, and L-lysine and L-proline were the two most important amino acids in combination.None of the single amino acid additions were more effective compared with the mixtures.
