Epidemiologic Study of Amateur Boxing Sport Injury in China

Abstract:Objective The purpose of this study was to determine the epidemiology of boxing sport injury in China.Methods Forty seven active boxers were surveyed,including 26 male and 21 female,and whose injuries had taken place in training and competition were recorded.The boxers had a mean age of 20.96±3.67 years,ranged from 14 to 29 years.Results The boxers participated 8 to12 training sessions every week,a mean total training time of 19.89 hours.92 injuries were recorded.Lacerations(53.19%) were the most common injuries.Muscular strain/myofascitis of waist/dorsum(29.79%) and injuries to the tendon / ligament of metacarpophalangeal joint(14.89%) were the second and third common injuries.The most common site of injuries were head /face(33.70%),upper extremity(25.00%) and waist/dorsum(21.74%) were the other common site.40.22% of the injuries were acute,and 26.09% were chronic.Most injuries took place in training(77.17%),in contrast to 22.83% in competitions.Conclusion Chinese boxers had more chronic injuries and back/waist injuries.Excess training volume was the main reason for high incidence of sports injuries.
