Abstract:It is well-known that translation schemes of prime order are exactly the cyclotomic schemes. In this paper, we show that there do not exist any two-, three-, or four-class nonsymmetric primitive translation schemes of prime square order. On the other hand, we find new nonsymmetric four- and five-class association schemes from cyclotomy as fission schemes of certain symmetric three-class association schemes. Moreover, we provide an affirmative answer to the following question raised by Song (J Algebr Comb 5:47–55, 1996): are there any other two-class primitive association schemes that admit symmetrizable fission schemes besides the cyclotomic scheme of index 2 for $q \equiv 5 \hbox { (mod 8)}$? To be more specific, we show that a certain two-class primitive association scheme in the finite field ${\mathbb F}_{37^3}$ constructed by Feng and Xiang (J Comb Theory Ser A 119:245–256, 2012) admits a four-class fission scheme. This fission scheme is realized as a fusion scheme of the cyclotomic scheme of index 28.

Abstract:In this paper, new classes of binary generalized cyclotomic sequences of period 2p(m+1)q(n+1) are constructed. These sequences are balanced. We calculate the linear complexity of the constructed sequences with a simple method. The results show that the linear complexity of such sequences attains the maximum.

Abstract:Abstract. Let p be a prime number, q = p for a positive integer s. For any positive divisor e of q− 1, we construct an infinite families codes of dimension 2m with few Lee-weight. These codes are defined as trace codes over the ring R = Fq + uFq, u 2 = 0. Using Gauss sums, their Lee weight distribution is provided. When gcd(e,m) = 1, we obtain an infinite family of two-weight codes which meet the Griesmer bound. Moreover, if gcd(e,m) = 2, 3 or 4 we construct new infinite families with at most five-weight. These codes can be used in authentication codes and secret sharing schemes.

Abstract:Based on the theory of Galois rings of characteristic 4, a new class of quaternary sequences with period 2p(2) is established over Z(4) using generated cyclotomy, where p is an odd prime. The linear complexity of the new sequences is determined. Results show that the sequences have larger linear complexity and resist the attack by Berlekamp-Massey (B-M) algorithm. It is a good sequence from the viewpoint of cryptography.

Abstract:Periodic sequences over finite fields have been used as key streams in private-key cryptosystems since the 1950s. Such periodic sequences should have a series of cryptographic properties in order to resist many attack methods. The binary generalized cyclotomic periodic sequences, constructed by the cyclotomic classes over finite fields, have good pseudo-random properties and correlation properties. In this paper, the linear complexity and minimal polynomials of some generalized cyclotomic sequences over GF( q ) have been determined where q = p m and p is an odd prime. Results show that these sequences have high linear complexity over GF( q ) for a large part of odd prime power q , which means they can resist the linear attack method.

Abstract:We study short sums of algebraic trace functions via the $q$-analogue of van der Corput method, and develop methods of arithmetic exponent pairs that coincide with the classical case while the moduli has sufficiently good factorizations. As an application, we prove a quadratic analogue of Brun-Titchmarsh theorem on average, bounding the number of primes $pleqslant X$ with $p^2+1equiv0pmod q$. The other two applications include a larger level of distribution of divisor functions in arithmetic progressions and a sub-Weyl subconvex bound of Dirichlet $L$-functions studied previously by Irving.

Abstract: The generalized cyclotomic binary sequences $S=S(a, b, c)$ with period $n=pq$ have good autocorrelation property where $(a, b, c)\in \{0, 1\}^3$ and $p, q$ are distinct odd primes. For some cases, the sequences $S$ have ideal or optimal autocorrelation. In this paper we determine the autocorrelation distribution and 2-adic complexity of the sequences $S=S(a, b, c)$ for all $(a, b, c)\in \{0, 1\}^3$ in a unified way by using group ring language and a version of quadratic Gauss sums valued in group ring $R=\mathbb{Z}[\Gamma]$ where $\Gamma$ is a cyclic group of order $n$.

Abstract:An upper bound is established for certain exponential sums on the rational points of an elliptic curve over a residue class ring $\mathbb{Z}_N$, N=pq for two distinct odd primes p and q. The result is a generalization of an estimate of exponential sums on rational point groups of elliptic curves over finite fields. The bound is applied to showing the pseudorandomness of a large family of binary sequences constructed by using elliptic curves over $\mathbb{Z}_N$.

We establish a sufficient condition for the existence of a primitive normal pair ($\alpha$, $f(\alpha)$) in $\mathbb{F}_{q^m}$ over $\mathbb{F}_{q}$ such that Tr$_{\mathbb{F}_{q^m}/\mathbb{F}_{q}}(\alpha^{-1})=a$, where $f(x) \in \mathbb{F}_{q^m}(x)$ is a rational function with degree sum $n$. In particular, for $q=5^k, ~k \geq 5$ and degree sum $n=4$, we explicitly find at most 11 choices of $(q, m)$ where existence of such pairs is not guaranteed.

Abstract:We prove that the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_n(\textbf{F}_q)$ of traceless matrices over a finite field of characteristic $p$ can be generated by $2$ elements with exceptions when $(n, p)$ is $(3, 3)$ or $(4,2)$. Abstract:In this paper, we study traces of Hecke operators on Drinfeld modular forms of level 1 in the case $A = \mathbb{F}_q[T]$. We deduce closed-form expressions for traces of Hecke operators corresponding to primes of degree 1 and provide algorithms for primes of higher degree. We improve the Ramanujan bound and deduce the decomposition of cusp forms of level $\Gamma_0(T)$ into oldforms and newforms, as conjectured by Bandini-Valentino, under the hypothesis that each Hecke eigenvalue has multiplicity less than $p$.

Abstract:A family of quaternary sequences over Z4 is defined based on the Ding-Helleseth generalized cyclotomic classes modulo pq for two distinct odd primes p and q. The linear complexity is determined by computing the defining polynomial of the sequences, which is in fact connected with the discrete Fourier transform of the sequences. The results show that the sequences possess large linear complexity and are good sequences from the viewpoint of cryptography.
