Abstract:World production of the principal species groups of molluscs manifests a trend of stable growth in most years but fluctuated in some individual years during the last 60 years or so.The production growth rates of mollusks' principal species groups in every 10-year period from 1950 to 1990 all exceeded 35%,with the growth rate being maximized in 1990s and decreasing during the period from 2000 to 2008.Aquaculture production overtook capture production in 1970s and its share in the overall production of mollusks' principal species groups was as high as 86%in 2008.In 2008,clams,coques and arches ranked the first in terms of production of principal species groups, followed by oysters, scallops and pectens, mussels, and abalones, winkles and conchs;Asia,America and Europe were the first, second, and third producer, respectively, according to region's production; the top 10 producers were China,Japan,USA,South Korea,Thailand,Chile,France,Spain,Italy and Canada,in terms of country's production.
