Abstract:With the emergence and rapid proliferation of online social applications and media, online social networks already connect our physical daily life with the web-based information space.The connection produces huge volume of data including not only the spreading information, but also user behavior.Social network mining aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of global and local patterns, mechanism of the network formation, and dynamics of user behaviors.Research on social ties mining is one of the most important researches in social network mining.Social ties are a bridge of connection and interaction between people, and also the foundation of information diffusion in social networks.From the computing viewpoint, researches on social ties mining include the mechanism of social ties formation, the semantization of social ties, and the interaction of social ties between people.This paper reviews the current stage of these fields.Specifically, it discusses the social ties link prediction, social ties type prediction, and social ties interaction prediction.Firstly, the formalized descriptions of these three problems in social network analysis are given and related concepts, some used data sets are introduced.Then, the methods, theories and models of social ties link prediction, social ties type prediction, and social ties interaction prediction are discussed.Also for each of these three problems, some real applications and experimental results are presented.Finally, the future research directions are discussed.
