Abstract:It is known that a big problem has been existing with the self-combustion accidents caused by the erosion of the coking gasoline tanks in the oil refining enterprises. To solve this problem, this present paper does a series of simulating tests with the steel materials for the tank, including A3, stainless steel, 20#, aluminum as well as the coking gasoline produced in Maoming and Jinling Petrochemical Incorporation. The samples for testing are used to erosion-induced sample material, such as the steel samples with dope. Since there are two types of coking oil and four kinds of steel samples, the tests are classified into eight kinds. The testing results are analyzed by using a variety of samples before and after the testing process. The erosion product is then removed with some mechanical and chemical reaction methods. The testing samples are analyzed and discussed with the focus on the changes of the sample appearance under the electronic microscope while the erosion analysis with the composition and structure is done with X-rays instruments. The final results suggest that the erosion rate of different steels proves different by the same kind of oil as the erosion agent. The erosion rate of the same steel is also different with the different kinds of oil. The erosion products of steel to oil are made up of FeS, FeS 2, Fe 3S 4 and Fe 9S 8. On the basis of the above analysis with the sample material, the authors analyze the mechanism of the erosion and the nature of the spontaneous combustion of the tanks with coking gasoline. Our final conclusion can be stated explicitly that from the theoretical study, the spontaneous combustion of tanks with coking gasoline is mainly caused by the erosion products of the tanks. As to the type of oil, the steel materials, the content of oxygen and environmental temperature can be the influential factors to the erosion and the self-combustion. Thus, it is believed that the results are available for the safety design of tanks containing coking gasoline and the coking gasoline refining improvement.
