Development of the Worry Tendency Questionnaire for Chinese Adolescents

Abstract:Objective:To develop the Worry Tendency Questionnaire for Chinese Adolescents(WTQ-CA),and examine its reliability and validity.Methods:The 59-items original questionnaire was designed on the basis of the deliberation of the structure and the correspondingly compiling questionnaire of worrying content and personality tendency.The forecast sample of 600 adolescents and the test sample of 1400 adolescents were separately recruited from by mixed sampling,and 582 and 1265 were validity,respectively.The re-test sample 60 adolescents which were sampled from the test sample fulfilled WTQ-CA again after 2 weeks,and 59 were validity.The forecast sample was conducted with item analysis and exploratory factor analysis(EFA),and then the test sample was conducted with confirmatory factor analysis(CFA),criteria validity test and reliability analysis.The criterions were the Chinese Version of Penn State Worry Questionnaire(Ch-PSWQ),State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI),Self-Rating Depression scale(SDS),Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI),and Frost' s Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale(FMPS).Results:Five factors,totally 32 items,were extracted by EFA,which were "learning worry","health worry","relationship worry","aimlessness" and "inferiority",and explained 54.25% of the total variance.This 5-factors construct was confirmed by CFA(χ2/df=3.58,RMSEA=0.06,SRMR=0.05,NNFI=0.87,CFI=0.90).The internal consistency reliability of the full questionnaire score was 0.92,and those of five factors were 0.67~0.83.The re-test reliability of full questionnaire was 0.74,and those of five factors were 0.68~0.79.The questionnaire scores were significantly correlated with PSWQ,State Anxiety,Trait Anxiety,Depression,Perfectionism,Coping Style,and PSQI scores(r=0.14~0.58,Ps<0.001).Conclusion:It suggests that Worry Tendency Questionnaire for Chinese Adolescents(WTQ-CA) has good reliability and validity,and may be applicable to the study of worry tendency in aolescents.
