Abstract:Objective To explore the association between the allele frequency of the single nucleotide polymorphism (C294T) in the 4th exon of the perxisome proliferators-activated receptor delta (PPARδ) gene and the physical performance. Methods One hundred and two males from the northern part of China underwent a distance running program: 5000m running/day,3 times/week for 18 weeks. The running intensity was 95%HRVT±3 in the first 10 weeks and 105% HRVT±3 in the following 8 weeks, VO2max and VO2, HR, VE at running economy (RE) were measured on a treadmill before (baseline) and after the running program, and PPARδ polymorphism was detected by PCR-RFLP. Results The distribution frequencies of the three genotypes were as follows: CC: 9 persons (0.09), CT:37 persons (0.36), TT:56 persons (0.55), and were coincident with Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. The VO2max/weight of CC genotype group was significantly different from the CT and TT genotype groups at the baseline (P<0.05). CT genotype group was more sensitive to the training in comparison with the TT genotype group at the △HRRE(P<0.01). Conclusions C294T in the 4th of the PPARδ was associated with the baseline of VO2max/weight, but not with the sensitivity to the training.
