Abstract:Alzheimer disease is known as a kind of common neurodegenerative disease which is characterized partly as neurofibrillary tangles formed mainly by hyper-phosphorylated Tau protein intracellularly. It has been shown that abnormal phosphorylation of Tau protein is related to its own aggregation as well as Alzheimer disease initiation and propagation. However, other post-translational modifications of Tau protein, such as glycosylation, acetylation, truncation, peptidyl-prolyl isomerization and ubiquitination, etc., are connected with its aggregation, meanwhile with Alzheimer disease initiation and propagation. Herein, advances in the relationship between post-translational modifications and Alzheimer disease were reviewed.
