Abstract:Objective: To explore the influence of antidepressant treatments on the function of brain regions which are positive-related by functional magnetic resonance imaging. Method: 19 patients were given antidepressants for 10 weeks and were scanned the intensity of brain activation in the process of positive and neural facial expression recognition prior and post-treatment. 19 matched healthy people were involved and given the same test at the same time. Results: Compared with the healthy, the patients before treatment showed decreased activation in left superior temporal gyrus(BA39) ,left posterior cingulate (BA23) ,right posterior cingulate(BA30) ,left thalamus, right superior temporal gyrus(BA39) ,right insula(BA13) . Left superior temporal gyrus(BA39) ,right superior temporal gyrus (BA22) ,right fusiform gyrus(BA36,37) ,left parahippocampal gyrus(BA30) ,right posterior cingulate (BA29) ,left medial frontal gyrus (BA8) ,left inferior frontal gyrus (BA47) ,left inferior parietal lobule(BA40) and right insula (BA13) activated more after treatment, but the activation in left superior temporal gyrus(BA22) ,left medial frontal gyrus(BA10) ,left fusiform gyrus(BA20) 、left cuneus(BA19) ,right superior parietal lobule(BA7) ,right insula(BA13) was still lower than the healthy. Conclusion: Performance of some regions which are positive-related recovers after antidepressant treatment, but to some extent impairments exist compared to the healthy, which confirms the conception that damage of brain areas positive-related could partially be reversesd by effective antidepressant treatment.
