Abstract:Urbanization marks the profoundest historical change in modern China. This historical change is not only the result of the big logic of the development of China＇s social history but also repre-sents the response China has made to globalization and the form China has taken in the process. It is part of a natural historical development based on the evolution of a thousands-of- years-old farming civilization. However, because of the deep intervention of globalization, this natural historical process, like the Big Bang, has kept producing the effect of drastic changes . As a result, a slow natural histori-cal process has evolved into a social and historical process. A natural evolutionary mechanism has ab-ruptly evolved into a mutation mechanism. The original division of natural history has suddenly evolved into a kind of social difference. Thus, cultural contradictions and conflicts have arisen between two dif-ferent kinds of survival values. It is such conflicts that constitute a cultural issue in China's urbaniza-tion: the construction of urban cultural space. The construction of urban cultural space is a form of spa-tial expression of the spiritual society. The " urban diseases" in urbanization are a reflection of the dis-equilibrium of urban spiritual society . Reconstructing the Chinese wisdom of " harmony between heaven and man" is the best way to cure urban diseases.
