Abstract:Sterol regulatory element binding proteins(SREBPs)are a family of membrane-bound transcription factors and play a fundamental role in both cholesterol and fatty acid metabolism.SREBPs bind to sterol response elements(SREs)in the enhancer/promoter region of target genes dedicated to the lipid synthesis,and activate their transcription.So SREBPs are involved in the regulation of lipid homeostasis.In this review,we introduce the mechanism of SREBPs in regulating lipid homeostasis and regulation of SREBPs which it may help us to understand the mechanism of metabolic syndrome such as diabetes,hyperlipidemia,fatty liver and obesity.Furthermore,this will be helpful for the clinical treatment.
