Abstract:Paroxysmal pollution of water resource is a kind of chaotic accidents, and will cause urgent and serious results. Therefore, it is of realistic importance to prevent paroxysmal pollution of the water resource and set up corresponding emergency mechanism for national property and people's safety and social development. Based on the analysis of the current situation of paroxysmal pollution of water resource, in this paper, researches is carried out to establish prevention and emergency mechanism for paroxysmal pollution of water resource in our country, the three limitations in current work is pointed out, and several measures are put forward to prevent paroxysmal pollution of water resource more quickly and establish corresponding emergency mechanism, including investigation of hidden trouble, evaluation of frangibility, prediction of water quality, dynamic inspection and emergency organization of paroxysmal pollution, which can be expected to provide certain theoretical analytical foundation for increasing paroxysmal pollution of water resource and its loss.

Abstract:Taking the Sewage of frozen Food of Hongyu Ltd.in Cangxi County as case,by surveying in the source of pollution and monitoring the surroundings,this paper carries on the environment impact assessment to the surface water in Diemaqiao ditch by taking the ways of single pollution index,predictly evaluates the surface water downstream of pollution outlet by combining one-dimension steady model and complete mixing model,analyzes the results of the evaluation and prediction,and proposes the corresponding countermeasure for pollution prevention and control to provide the scientific basis of the concerning macro-decision of the water environment.

Abstract:A good water ecological environment is crucial for the sustainable development and ecological civilization of China. However, various problems remain for China's water ecological environment, including eutrophication, pollution of drinking water sources, contamination of groundwater and coastal waters, emerging pollutants, and shortage of ecological water. In this study, we analyzed the overall situation of the water ecological environment in China, pinpointed the major challenges, and proposed the strategic thinking and several basic principles. These principles focus on improving the water ecological environment and comprehensively consider water quality improvement, water ecological protection, and water environmental risk prevention and control. Three major scientific and technological projects were proposed pertaining to (1) coordinated governance and overall restoration of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grasses, and sand in key basins, (2) overall improvement of water environment and water ecology in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Collaborative Development Area, and (3) assurance of drinking water safety in the new era. Furthermore, we proposed the following four countermeasures: (1) revising the Environmental Quality Standards for Surface Water to strengthen its leading role in the construction of water ecological civilization in China; (2) evaluating the spatial and temporal differences of nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients in China's lakes and implementing differentiated nutrients standards; (3) assessing the current status of water ecology in China and promoting water ecology monitoring and assessment; and (4) establishing an intelligent supervision platform for drinking water safety based on big data fusion.
Pollution status and control strategies of perfluorinated compounds in water environments over China:A review

Abstract:The pollution status of perfluorinated compounds(PFCs) in the water environments,such as surface water,drinking water and wastewater,over China was introduced in this paper.It was observed that a general pollution of PFCs existed in various water environments,and the pollution level in some places,especially the industrial and densely populated areas,exceeded the average conditions overseas.The main pathways of PFCs pollutions in soil,water and air include the discharge of PFCs from manufacturers and daily use.Common control technologies for PFCs pollutions include advanced oxidation,biodegradation,and adsorption etc.Extended studies on PFCs pollutions in various water environments,especially in groundwater and sediment,would help further understanding on mechanisms of PFCs transformation and degradation,investigation on low-cost and efficient methods of the control of PFCs pollution.

Abstract:Significant number of accidental water pollution incidents occurred during the past decades in China, often having transboundary impacts, including the high profile Songhua River toxic chemical spill in November 2005, and drinking water source pollution by algae in the Tai Lake, Wuxi in May 2007. Over half of all river sections monitored for water quality are rated as being unsafe for human contact, and this pollution is estimated to cost several per cent of GDP. If not immediately and effectively controlled, pollution incidents caused by accidental releases or cumulative pollution can worsen water shortages and scarcity problems. The environmental pollution accidents can cause great danger, and there are many potential pollution sources. From the Comparison with the advanced and mature experience by system, mechanism, the article expounds some ideas to improve and strengthen emergency disposal and prevention system for water pollution accidents. It identifies areas for improvement and presents policy recommendations for institutional reform, improving regulations; and strengthening the implementing capacity to maximize the use of existing institutions, regulations and other management resources.

Abstract:The surface water of 10 major river systems across China has been under intermediate pollution with striking eutrophication problems in major lakes (reservoirs). More data from the Ministry of Environmental Protection of China showed that underground water in 57% of monitoring sites across Chinese cities was polluted or extremely polluted. Rural water pollution, the rising number of incidents of industrial pollution, outdated sewerage systems, and the overuse of pesticides and chemical fertilizers also endanger the health of rural inhabitants in China. Nearly 0.2 billion rural residents could not use drinking water in accordance with the national standard, and there were reports of ‘cancer villages9 and food-borne diseases (cancer village refers to a village where a certain proportion of its inhabitants suffer from the same kind of cancer or where there is a hike in cancer incidence in that area). This study aims to raise awareness of the prevention and control of water pollution and to propose a set of national research and policy initiatives for the future safety of the water environment in China.

Abstract:Groundwater is a significant source of drinking water and a strategic resource for China. However, the groundwater quality in China is unoptimistic and China faces a severe situation regarding groundwater environment protection as its groundwater pollution prevention and control started late. Therefore, problems faced by groundwater pollution prevention and control should be researched and targeted countermeasures be proposed to curb the trend of groundwater pollution and improve groundwater quality. The study reviews the existing regulations and policies, management status, and requirements of groundwater pollution prevention and control in China, and predicts the future management trend. The results indicate the following challenges. (1) The groundwater pollution status is still unclear and hierarchical and classified management of groundwater pollution is lacking. (2) The groundwater pollution forms become increasingly complex and the regulatory system requires improvement. (3) The groundwater pollution control becomes increasingly difficult and only few control technologies were applied to underground pollution treatment. (4) The requirements of groundwater environmental management are constantly improving; however, the innovation impetus is insufficient. Therefore, we proposed several countermeasures. The pollution status should be identified through continuous investigation and assessment of groundwater environment in key regions, to support the construction of a hierarchical and classified management system. Intelligent, visualized, and coordinated supervision should be achieved by establishing a multilevel groundwater environmental monitoring network and adopting supervisory measures based on information technologies. Green and sustainable models should be formed and promoted through the experimental implementation of groundwater pollution prevention and control projects and by constructing 21 pilot sites. The original innovation and management capacities should be enhanced by focusing on key technical issues such as groundwater pollution traceability, standards system construction, and development of relevant software with proprietary intellectual property rights.

Abstract:This paper summarizes and presents an overview of the current state of water pollution, as well as recent progress and the potential future development of water pollution control technology, in China. Although China has made significant strides in water environmental protection over the past decades, analysis reveals that water pollution in the nation is still not sufficiently controlled, with a number of surface waters currently suffering varying degrees of pollution. High nitrogen and phosphorous concentrations in many great lakes have caused eutrophication problems, and the frequency of blue algal bloom has increased. Likewise, river pollution has not been effectively controlled. Nitrogen, phosphorous, organic compounds, and heavy metals are ubiquitous in China's rivers, with up to 80% of urban rivers contaminated to varying degrees—a situation that continues to deteriorate. Next, eutrophication has occurred in many large reservoirs, with numerous toxic substances negatively affecting water quality. Finally, over-exploitation has caused groundwater quality to deteriorate, and pollution from heavy metals, nitrates, fluorine, and random organic matter has become a primary water quality issue. To resolve these complex environmental problems, water pollution controls and quality improvement technologies have been rapidly developed in China in recent years. Ecological restoration, biological disposal, advanced chemical oxidation, high-efficiency adsorption, and flocculation technologies have been especially prominent in these efforts. Not only have these developments introduced practical innovation to the core technologies, they have also prioritized their systematic integration and application. In order to prevent and control the pollution of lakes and rivers, improve general water quality, and ensure the safety of drinking water supplies, China must perform systematic research on management, pollution control and treatment, ecological restoration, and related water treatment and purification technologies over the next 5 to 15 years through a series of major technology initiatives. These programs will supply the scientific foundation and technological support for achieving the optimum improvement of China's water quality.
Controlling Countermeasure of Pb Pollution of Surface Water in Lishui City and the Achievement

Abstract:With the general and tracer monitoring,the saturation of lead pollution of surface water in Lishui city was investigated.The results indicated that surface water Pb concentration in the surveyed region ranged from 0.005 to 0.032 mg/L,and Pb concentration in about 22% of collected water samples was higher than the limits of surface water quality standard (GB 3838-2002).It was also found that the important sources of lead pollution were as follows:mining,industrial waste and exhaust gases of automobiles.The countermeasures for controlling Pb pollution and the achievements wrer also summarized,which is significant for the protection of regional water environment.

Abstract:The rapid economic and industrial growth of China, exemplified by a 10-fold increase in its gross domestic product in the past 15 years, has lifted millions of its citizens out of poverty but has simultaneously led to severe environmental problems. The World Health Organization estimates that approximately 2.4 million deaths in China per year could be attributed to degraded environmental quality. Much of China's soil, air, and water are polluted by xenobiotic contaminants, such as heavy metals and organic compounds. In addition, soil quality is degraded by erosion, desertification, and nutrient runoff. Air quality is further compromised by particulates, especially in heavily populated areas. Research shows that 80% of urban rivers in China are significantly polluted, and poor water quality is a key contributor to poverty in rural China. Economic and industrial growth has also greatly expanded the demand for water sources of appropriate quality; however, pollution has markedly diminished usable water resource quantity. Desertification and diminishing water resources threaten future food security. In recent years, China's government has increased efforts to reverse these trends and to improve ecosystem health. The Web of Science database showed that the percentage of articles on China devoting to environmental sciences increased dramatically in recent years. In addition, the top 25 institutes publishing the papers in environmental sciences were all in China. This special issue includes seven articles focusing on nonpoint source pollution, environmental quality, and ecosystem health in China. The major issues, and results of these studies, are discussed in this introduction.

Abstract:In this paper introductions are conducted to Mangxi River of Leshan city,Sichuan Province,and analysis and assessment on the present status of water environment pollution are carried out,meanwhile the main pollution source,the city living pollution,is found out,based on investigations.Water environmental capacity of Mangxi River is calculated and total amount control method of water pollution is put forward and in accordance with the actual conditions of pollution source of Mangxi River,some prevention measures are raised considering the different characteristics of the city living pollution source,surface and industrial pollution source.

Abstract:As the social progresses and economic development,shortage of water resources in China has become an increasingly serious problem,the low level of water use,the utilization of imbalances,the development and utilization of water resources in different degrees,the excessive exploitation of groundwater,the waste of water,less efficient use of water resources has been highlighted.This paper from the water resources situation and characteristics of water resource in China analyzed the current problems of water resources,and then pointed out the water crisis.According the actual situation,this paper proposed that improved the ecological environment,and developed production technology,strengthen management,and infrastructure construction,developed sewage treatment technology to improve the circulation of water resources utilization and inter-basin water transfer,and other appropriate countermeasures.

Abstract:This study summarized and evaluated the cost-benefit analysis methods for typical water environment pollution control measures in China. We conducted a comprehensive comparison of these measures, whose advantages and disadvantages were examined, so the application models and characteristics can be delved into. Through integrating methods and analyzing application cases, we refined a combination of measures with high efficiency and low cost in controlling China's water environment. In our analysis of cost-benefit, we emphasized the importance of implementing scientifically designed control measures and employing rigorous methods to addressing water environment pollution. In order to achieve rapid response and efficient treatment of China's environmental problems, we advocated for establishing a cross regional pollution control mechanism. That is, the collaborative platform and scientific suggestions for all participants in this field should be provided, through interdisciplinary integration, development of domestic models, and expansion of databases.

Abstract:Water quality in China is becoming a severe challenge for agriculture and food safety, and it might also impact health of population via agriculture and food. Thus, it is causing widespread concern. Based on extensive literatures review and data mining, current situation of water pollution in China and its effects on food safety were analyzed. The 2nd National Water Resource Survey in China show that the surface water all over the country was under slight pollution and about 60% of groundwater is polluted. Drinking water quality is basically guaranteed in urban area but it is worrisome in rural areas. In addition, China is the largest consumer of fertilizer and pesticide in the world and the amounts of application still show increasing trends. Fertilizers and pesticides are the most important sources of pollution, which affect human health as persistent organic pollutants and environmental endocrine disruptors. Eutrophication of surface water and nitrate pollution of groundwater are serious threats to drinking water safety. Sewage irrigation is becoming a pollution source to China's water and land because of lacking of effective regulations. Although, with the advance in technology and management level, control of nitrogen and phosphorus emissions and reducing water pollution is still a major challenge for China.

Abstract:The Huai River Basin (HRB) is one of China's three major river basins with a large population and underdeveloped economy. By the 1970s, the water quality in this basin had begun to deteriorate. More than a hundred large-scale water pollution accidents have occurred in this basin, causing incalculable losses to offshore residents and severely damaging the river eco-system. After more than one decade of considerable efforts, the deterioration of water quality in the HRB has been roughly controlled. The overall situation of water pollution in this area, however, remains grave due to several cruxes, including exceptional weather conditions, a shortage of water resources, extensive industrial structures, and ineffective watershed management. This study analyzes these cruxes in the HRB, and puts forward corresponding countermeasures, which include establishing a real basin management institution, transforming the economic mode, and promoting cost-effective pollution control technologies, among others. It also argues that about 50 or more years will be required for the water-bodies in the HRB to become clean and resume their ecological and environmental functions, even under the scenario when all protective measures are implemented.

Abstract:The water and soil pollution by heavy metals is currently very serious in China.The Integrated wastewater discharge standard(GB 8978—1996) enacted in 1996 has been still the law in execution.The discharged pollutants are definitely classified into two categories according to their nature,among which,8 heavy metals,Hg,Cd,Cr,As,Pb,Ni,Be and Ag,belong to the first type of pollutants and are requested to be sampled at the discharge ports of the plant workshop or the workshop treatment facilities and to meet the most strict discharge standards without considering the sectors,discharge behaviors or receiving water bodies.They are completely different from the general routine pollutants to use the environmental capacity and to implement the total load control,which reflects the principle of closed zero discharge for the persistent cumulative pollutants.However,at present,there exists a series of problems of violation and confusion of the discharge standards and control requirements of the above two categories of pollutants for the monitoring,evaluation and mitigation countermeasures of the water quality.The task of prevention and treatment of heavy metal pollution is very hard,and it relates to various sectors,departments and academic subjects.To change the present situation of serious water and soil pollution by heavy metals in China,some suggestions are proposed as follows:(1) the technical route of the environmental protection system should be first improved;(2) the prevention is more important and earlier than the treatment for the prevention and control of heavy metal pollution;(3) the most important is to control the excessive heavy discharge from the sources,and the source monitoring and control should have correct technical route.

At present, many cities and towns in China have water quality problems, bringing a great impact on people's lives. Therefore, this paper studies the safety of water quality in towns and cities firstly analyses the main factors affecting the safety of drinking water quality, and then proposes some corresponding measures to solve the current situation. It is hoped that the study of this paper can bring some degree of help to China's urban water supply management.

Abstract:Based on the comprehensive analysis of the present water quality of Pearl River Basin,the main pollution sources are found out.The result indicates that several water quality indices such as COD,oil,ammonia nitrogen(NH3-N),total phosphorus(TP) and so on exceed the standards,and Pearl River Basin has the probable trend of worse water quality and eutrophication.According to the water pollution characteristics of Pearl River Basin,the article proposes correlative countermeasures,mainly including fulfilling methods of water pollution control,perfecting policies and laws,reinforcing consensus supervision and management strength,and emphasizes the regional cooperation in all of methods of water pollution control.
