Abstract:Fatty acid synthesis was once considered largely an anabolic-energy-storage pathway.Recent discovery,however,shows that human cancer cells express high levels of FAS,the important enzyme is responsible for the synthesis of fatty acid,and undergoes significant endogenous fatty-acid synthesis,indicating that fatty acids are essential components of energy for cancer growth and that fatty-acid synthesis is now associated with tumor-cell survival and growth and aggressive tumor behavior.These findings have enhanced our understanding of fatty acids in tumor biology and may provide new therapeutic moieties for neoplasms therapy.
