Effects of ultra-fine Chinese herbal feed additives on growth performance of weanling piglets

Abstract:The experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of ultra-fine Chinese herbal feedstuff additives(UFCH) on growth performance of weaning piglets.The ultra-fine Chinese herbal additives were made of Perilla Frutes,Radix codonpsis pillosulae,Rhizoma atractylodis macrocephalae and so on.Ninety six crossbred early weaned piglets(Large Yorkshire×Landrace)of 21 days old were randomly assigned into 4 groups(A,B,C,D)with 3 repetitions,each repetition with 8 piglets.The groups were fed on basal diet supplemented with 0.05 % antibiotics(including colistin sulfate soluble powder and maxus),0.25 % UFCH,0.5 % UFCH and 1.0 % UFCH,respectively.The results were as follows:average daily gain(ADG)of group B,C,D increased by -0.15 %(P > 0.05),21.65 %(P < 0.05)and 11.96 %(P > 0.05)compared with group A;feed to gain ratio(F/G)of all groups had no significant difference(P > 0.05),while effects of the 3 experimental groups were better than that of control group,the F/G of group B,C,D decreased by 4.58 %(P > 0.05),5.34 %(P > 0.05),5.34 %(P > 0.05)respectively compared with the group A;diarrhea frequency of group B,C,D were decreased by 84.50 %(P < 0.05),92.25 %(P < 0.05),and 69.38 %(P < 0.05) significantly.The results suggested that feed added UFCH in feedstuff could improve early growth performance,decrease diarrhea frequency of weanling piglets,and the optimum dosage of UFCH was 0.5 %.
