Clinicopathological analysis of adult lymphoblastic lymphoma

Abstract:Objective: To study the clinicopathologic features, diagnosis and differential diagnosis of adult lymphoblastic lymphoma (LBL). Methods: The clinical data, histopathological changes and immunohistochemical finding were reviewed in eight cases of adult LBL with history and literature. Results: The age of the patients ranged from 30 to 56 years old. Seven cases were T cell LBL in lymph nodes and mediastinal. One case was B cell LBL in skin. Morphologically, adult LBL was generally characterized by a diffuse pattern of lymph node or other tissue involvement. The tumor cells were medium size with very condensed nuclear chromatin. In most cases, mitotic figures were numerous. There maybe a focal “starry sky” pattern in some cases. Immunohistochemically, the neoplastic cells were positive for TdT and CD99. Conclusion: Adult LBL is a rare haematopoietic neoplasm with characteristic features of morphology and immunohistochemistry. The diagnosis and differential diagnosis are important.
