Investigation of Quality of Health Promotion Service in Public STD Clinics in Jiading,Shanghai

Abstract:Objective To learn about quality of health promotion service and related-factors in STD clinics in Jiading,Shanghai.Method Quality of health promotion service in 5 local STD clinics was assessed by both qualitative and quantitative methods.Result A total of 402 qualified questionnaires were returned,and 14 physicians were interviewed.The rates of condom promotion,partner notification,and VCT provision from medical staff were 40.3%,77.1%,and 83.3%,respectively.And indicator 2 of quality of STD care service was 33.1% and the difference in STD service provided in different STD clinics in relation to indicator 2 had statistical significance.The qualitative interview found that medical staff in the STD clinics had consciousness of carrying out STD health promotion.And the quality of health promotion service was hardly optimistic,especially in condom promotion,because of incentive,manpower,resources,time,patients' characteristic,and other factors.Conclusion The quality of health promotion service in the 5 STD clinics varies and has much room for further improvement,and it will be important to strengthen medical staff training in STD clinics,to develop proper incentive system,and to enhance collaboration with family planning units.
