Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to provide some measures for regulating croplands in Xingtai City based on studying the spatiotemporal process of cropland conversion and calculating the threshold values about cropland protection using the documentation and comparison methods.The results show that the pressure in cropland resources in Xingtai City is gradually decreased,although the cropland area is continuously reduced and the population increases gradually because of the progress of agricultural technology.It is concluded that the only ways of decreasing the pressure in cropland resources are to increase the investment in agriculture,improve the agricultural technology and ceaselessly promote the cropland productivity so as to meet the land demands for grain security,industrialization and urbanization.Government should not only pay great attention to the control of conversion from croplands into urban uses,but also to the improvement of integrative benefits,that is,under the precondition of ensuring grain security and increasing the investment in agriculture,croplands should be rationally and suitably transformed into other uses so as to make land resources to a maximal efficiency.
