Abstract:In this paper we consider some general properties of spherically symmetric SU2 gauge fields. We prove that the SU2 gauge fields which are spherically symmetric in the most general sense may be divided into three basic types only: (1) synchro-spherieally symmetric SU2 gauge fields, (2) strict-spherically symmetric SU2 gauge fields, (3) spherically symmetric SU2 gauge fields reducible to U1 gauge fields.The spherically symmetric SU2 gauge fields with a Higgs field are investigated in detail and their types are completely determined. If such a field is regarded as due to the interaction of an electromagnetic field and electrically-charged vector bosons, then the following conclusion is obtained: In the spherically symmetric case there cannot exist an electrically-charged vector boson field around an m-unit monopole except for m =± 1, 0.
On Yang-Mills fields from anti-de Sitter spaces

Abstract:Motivated by some recent progress involving a non-compact gauge group, we obtain classical gauge fields using non-compact foliations of anti-de Sitter space in 4 dimensions (required dimensionality for conformal invariance of Yang-Mills theory) and transfer these to Minkowski spacetime using a series of conformal maps. This construction also builds upon some previous works involving SU(2) gauge group in that we now use its non-compact counterpart SU(1, 1) here. We note down gauge fields in both Abelian as well as non-Abelian settings and find them to be divergent at some hyperboloid, which is a hypersurface of co-dimension 1 inside the conformal boundary of AdS4. In spite of this hurdle we find a physically relevant field configuration in the Abelian case, reproducing a known result.

Abstract:Dirac’s monopole is generalized to SU2 gauge fields in five-dimensional flat space or four-dimensional spherical space. The generalized fields have SO5 symmetry. The method used is related to the concept of orthogonal gauge fields which is developed in an appendix. The angular momenta operators for the SO5 symmetrical fields are given.

Abstract:A parametrization of gauge fields on complex projective spaces of arbitrary dimension is given as a generalization of the two-dimensional case. Gauge transformations act homogeneously on the fields, facilitating a manifestly gauge-invariant analysis. Specializing to four dimensions, we consider the nature of the effective action due to chiral scalars interacting with the gauge fields. The key qualitatively significant terms include a possible gauge-invariant mass term and a finite four-dimensional Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) action. We comment on relating the mass term to lattice simulations as well as Schwinger-Dyson analyses, and also on relating the WZW action to the instanton liquid picture of QCD.

Abstract:We present a compact formula for the complete tree-level S-matrix of pure Yang-Mills and gravity theories in arbitrary spacetime dimensions. The new formula for the scattering of n particles is given by an integral over the positions of n points on a sphere restricted to satisfy a dimension-independent set of equations. The integrand is constructed using the reduced Pfaffian of a 2n×2n matrix, Ψ, that depends on momenta and polarization vectors. In its simplest form, the gravity integrand is a reduced determinant which is the square of the Pfaffian in the Yang-Mills integrand. Gauge invariance is completely manifest as it follows from a simple property of the Pfaffian.

Abstract:In 1977 Lüscher found a class of SO(4)-symmetric SU(2) Yang-Mills solutions in Minkowski space, which have been rederived 40 years later by employing the isometry $S^3\cong\mathrm{SU}(2)$ and conformally mapping SU(2)-equivariant solutions of the Yang-Mills equations on (two copies of) de Sitter space $\mathrm{dS}_4\cong\mathbb{R}{\times}S^3$. Here we present the noncompact analog of this construction via $\mathrm{AdS}_3\cong\mathrm{SU}(1,1)$. On (two copies of) anti-de Sitter space $\mathrm{AdS}_4\cong\mathbb{R}{\times}\mathrm{AdS}_3$ we write down SU(1,1)-equivariant Yang-Mills solutions and conformally map them to $\mathbb{R}^{1,3}$. This yields a two-parameter family of exact SU(1,1) Yang-Mills solutions on Minkowski space, whose field strengths are essentially rational functions of Cartesian coordinates. Gluing the two AdS copies happens on a $\mathrm{dS}_3$ hyperboloid in Minkowski space, and our Yang-Mills configurations are singular on a two-dimensional hyperboloid $\mathrm{dS}_3\cap\mathbb{R}^{1,2}$. This renders their action and the energy infinite, although the field strengths fall off fast asymptotically except along the lightcone. We also construct Abelian solutions, which share these properties but are less symmetric and of zero action.

A gauge-invariant measure for gauge fields on $\mathbb{CP}^2$

Abstract:We consider four-dimensional non-Abelian gauge theory living on a complex projective space $\mathbb{CP}^2$ as a way of gaining insights into (3+1)-dimensional QCD. In particular, we use a complex parametrization of gauge fields on which gauge transformations act homogeneously. This allows us to factor out the gauge degrees of freedom from the volume element leading to a manifestly gauge-invariant measure for the gauge-orbit space (the space of all gauge potentials modulo gauge transformations). The terms appearing in the measure that are of particular interest are mass-like terms for the gauge-invariant modes of the gauge fields. Since these mass terms come with dimensional parameters they are significant in the context of dimensional transmutation. Moreover, the existence of local gauge-invariant mass terms on $\mathbb{CP}^2$ could be related to Schwinger-Dyson calculations of the soft gluon mass. Finally, we argue that there is a kinematic regime in which the theory can be approximated by a 4d Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) theory. This result can be used to draw similarities between the mechanism of confinement in four and (2+1) dimensions.

Abstract:We show that Seiberg-like duality of 𝒩=1 gauge theory coupledwith tensor chiral fields and fundamental chiral fields works if the mesonspectrum built from the tensor fields takes particular form: a) It should betruncated; b) The R charges of tensor fields {R_a} and the truncatedmesons {R_j} take very special values. The meson spectrum so that theduality works is encoded elegantly in the factorization of the polynomialy^n-1=Φ_+Φ_-. Our consideration covers many known 𝒩=1dualities and generates a large class of new examples.

Usually, one uses free hypermultiplet and twisted hypermultiplet, and more recently it was found that strongly coupled theory such as 3d version of T N theory and Argyres-Douglas matter can also be used. In this paper, we compute the superconformal index of these = 4 theories and derive the Coulomb/Higgs limit. Our results determine the moduli space of vacua, which is used to check various interesting mirror symmetry involving CSM theory and usual = 4 gauge theory.

Abstract:The gauge invariant Wess-Zumino action functional in dimensional space is obtained by properly constructing the manifestly gauge invariant -forms which satisfy the Abelian anomalous Ward identity in dimensional space. Apart from its simplicity, directness, the construction clearly embodies the connections between the gauge invariant Wess-Zumino action functional, chiral anomalies and topology.

Abstract:We investigate the asymptotic symmetries of three-dimensional AdS Einstein gravity in the Weyl-Fefferman-Graham gauge, which is a generalization of the Fefferman-Graham gauge inducing a Weyl connection as part of the boundary structure. We show that this gauge arises as a natural intermediary step of the gauge-fixing procedure in the Chern-Simons formulation. We prove that the diffeomorphism required to go to the usual Fefferman-Graham gauge can be charged, and thus its implementation has physical repercussions. We discuss the holographic renormalization and the variational principle offering a new holographic take on this gauge and its charges.

Abstract:Scattering amplitudes of any four-dimensional theory with nonabelian gauge group $\mathcal G$ may be recast as two-dimensional correlation functions on the asymptotic two-sphere at null infinity. The soft gluon theorem is shown, for massless theories at the semiclassical level, to be the Ward identity of a holomorphic two-dimensional $\mathcal G$-Kac-Moody symmetry acting on these correlation functions. Holomorphic Kac-Moody current insertions are positive helicity soft gluon insertions. The Kac-Moody transformations are a $CPT$ invariant subgroup of gauge transformations which act nontrivially at null infinity and comprise the four-dimensional asymptotic symmetry group.

Abstract:We study the unflavored Schur indices in the = 4 super-Yang-Mills theory for the B n , C n , D n , G 2 gauge groups. We explore two methods, namely the character expansion method and the Fermi gas method, to efficiently compute the q -series expansion of the Schur indices to some high orders. Using the available data and the modular properties, we are able to fix the exact formulas for the general gauge groups up to some high ranks and discover some interesting new features. We also identify some empirical modular anomaly equations, but unlike the case of A n groups, they are quite complicated and not sufficiently useful to fix exact formulas for gauge groups of arbitrary rank.

N=2 Generalized Superconformal Quiver Gauge Theory

Abstract:Four dimensional N=2 generalized superconformal field theory can be defined by compactifying six dimensional (0,2) theory on a Riemann surface with regular punctures. In previous studies, gauge coupling constant space is identified with the moduli space of punctured Riemann surface M_{g,n}. We show that the weakly coupled gauge group description corresponds to a stable nodal curve, and the coupling space is actually the Deligne-Mumford compactification \bar{M}_{g,n}. We also give an algorithm to determine the weakly coupled gauge group and matter content in any duality frame.

Generalized symmetry constraints on deformed 4d (S)CFTs

Abstract:We explore the consequence of generalized symmetries in four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=1$ superconformal field theories. First, we classify all possible supersymmetric gauge theories with a simple gauge group that have a nontrivial one-form symmetry and flows to a superconformal field theory. Upon identifying unbroken discrete zero-form symmetries from the ABJ anomaly, we find that many of these theories have mixed zero-form/one-form 't Hooft anomalies. Then we classify the relevant deformations of these SCFTs that preserve the anomaly. From this mixed anomaly together with the anomalies of the discrete zero-form symmetries, we find obstructions for the relevant deformations of these SCFTs to flow to a trivially gapped phase. We also study non-Lagrangian SCFTs formed by gauging copies of Argyres-Douglas theories and constrain their deformations. In particular, we explore a new duality between the diagonal gauging of two $\mathcal{D}_3(SU(N))$ theories and $SU(N)$ gauge theory with two adjoints. We also repeat our analysis for a host of non-supersymmetric gauge theories having nontrivial one-form symmetry including examples that appear to flow to Bank-Zaks type CFTs.

A generalized 4d Chern-Simons theory

Abstract:A generalization of the 4d Chern-Simons theory action introduced by Costello and Yamazaki is presented. We apply general arguments from symplectic geometry concerning the Hamiltonian action of a symmetry group on the space of gauge connections defined on a 4d manifold and construct an action functional that is quadratic in the moment map associated to the group action. The generalization relies on the use of contact 1-forms defined on non-trivial circle bundles over Riemann surfaces and mimics closely the approach used by Beasley and Witten to reformulate conventional 3d Chern-Simons theories on Seifert manifolds. We also show that the path integral of the generalized theory associated to integrable field theories of the PCM type, takes the canonical form of a symplectic integral over a subspace of the space of gauge connections, turning it a potential candidate for using the method of non-Abelian localization. Alternatively, this new quadratic completion of the 4d Chern-Simons theory can also be deduced in an intuitive way from manipulations similar to those used in T-duality. Further details on how to recover the original 4d Chern-Simons theory data, from the point of view of the Hamiltonian formalism applied to the generalized theory, are included as well.

Six-Dimensional Gauge Theory on the Chiral Square

Abstract:We construct gauge theories in two extra dimensions compactified on the chiral square, which is a simple compactification that leads to chiral fermions in four dimensions. Stationarity of the action on the boundary specifies the boundary conditions for gauge fields. Any six-dimensional gauge field decomposed in Kaluza-Klein modes includes a tower of heavy spin-1 particles whose longitudinal polarizations are linear combinations of the extra-dimensional components, and a tower of heavy spin-0 particles corresponding to the orthogonal combinations. These linear combinations depend on the Kaluza-Klein numbers, and are independent of the gauge fixing. If the gauge symmetry is broken by the vacuum expectation value of a six-dimensional scalar, at each Kaluza-Klein level three spinless fields in the adjoint representation mix to provide the longitudinal polarization of the spin-1 mode, leaving the orthogonal states as two spin-0 particles. We derive the interactions of the Kaluza-Klein modes for generic gauge theories, laying the groundwork for the Standard Model in two universal extra dimensions, and more generally for future model building and phenomenological studies.

Exact solutions in Einstein-Yang-Mills-Dirac systems

Abstract:We present exact solutions in Einstein-Yang-Mills-Dirac theories with gauge groups SU(2) and SU(4) in Robertson-Walker space-time $R \times S^3 $, which are symmetric under the action of the group SO(4) of spatial rotations. Our approach is based on the dimensional reduction method for gauge and gravitational fields and relates symmetric solutions in EYMD theory to certain solutions of an effective dynamical system. We interpret our solutions as cosmological solutions with an oscillating Yang-Mills field passing between topologically distinct vacua. The explicit form of the solution for spinor field shows that its energy changes the sign during the evolution of the Yang-Mills field from one vacuum to the other, which can be considered as production or annihilation of fermions. Among the obtained solutions there is also a static sphaleron-like solution, which is a cosmological analogue of the first Bartnik-McKinnon solution in the presence of fermions.
