Effects of Pioglitazone on vascular endothelial function in type 2 diabetes

Abstract:【Objective】To investigate the influence of Pioglitazone to the index of vascular endothelial function in type 2 diabetics.【Methods】Randomly selected 40 patient with type 2 diabetes whose blood glucose control is not ideal as treatment group(original anti-diabetic drug plus to Pioglitazone 30 mg/d) and 32 normal subjects as control group.To test the levels of endothelin-1,nitric oxide and nitricoxide synthase before and after treatment in treatment group and controls.【Results】After 3 months of treatment,the FPG,P2hPG of treatment group decreased significantly(P 0.05).The serum ET-1 levels reduced but NO and NOS levels increased(P 0.05).Linear correla-tion analysis showed that the serum ET-1 and FPG were significantly positive correlated(r =0.382,P =0.036),while NO and FPG(r =-0.403,P =0.021),ET-1 and NO(r =-0.363,P = 0.041) were significantly negatively correlated.NO and the total nitricoxide synthase(T-NOS) were significantly positive correlated(r=0.363,P =0.042).【Conclu-sion】Pioglitazone can significantly reduce blood glucose levels and ET-1,but increase NO and NOS,which can ef-fectively protect the vascular endothelial function.
